And it will be that way next year, and the year after that, and the year after that.... What's better is Watson and Jackson have to go through Mahomes for years and years to come just to have a shot.
I'd rank them in this order among AFC young QBs: 1) Mahomes (Best passer by a far margin) 2) Watson (good at everything, but bad offensive coach) 3) Lamar (decent passer, but great runner)
Tom Ross TV and yet Lamar is sitting at home now. Like any other rushing qb Lamar will fizzle out. He has an arm and talent but they can’t keep letting him take those hits.

Indianapolis this year is the only one that is close to bad, but even that was just average by the advanced metrics . Even that wasn't actually that bad. He has 0.03 EPA passing (normal for a QB is around 0.07) with 8.2 yards per pass and 58.0 Total QBR which is around the league average. Chiefs running game was really the problem getting 2.6 yards per carry that would be even worse without Mahomes 3 scrambles for 17 yards.

Mahomes is 100% the best player or at the very least best QB in the NFL. He's the best. Period. Lamar will get better at passing I'm sure of it but Mahomes is far and away the best QB in the NFL.
I think the counterpoint got everyone talking about the weapons is that Mahomes is doing historic things with the weapons he has been blessed to have. If he was right on par statistically with everyone else that’s one thing but he’s doing things that nobody else has done with these weapons. He can’t control who he has to throw to but he can control how productive he is with those weapons and boy does he produce.
1 thing to consider. When the chiefs got down 24 - 0, mahomes was going up & down the line with his teamates, encouraging, pumping them up. Lamar went to the bench to sit by himself... so...

@@abc_12333 Lamar played one less game in 2019 than Mahomes played in 2018. Don't forget the Chiefs defense was dead last in 2018 forcing Mahomes to keep producing scoring drives so they finished 13-3. The Ravens defense was a top 3 unit in 2019. Mahomes put up better numbers because he faced more adversity.

I didn’t know Gronk vs. Gonzalez was a thing. Gronk is maybe 3rd or 4th on my list. Gonzalez is by far 1. Sharpe is 2. Gates is 3. But 2,3,4 is interchangeable. Tony is #1.
Marcellus Wiley makes me laugh. Mahomes is by far the best player in the league. Jackson is good. He is a great runner but his overall skills and talent aren't close to Mahomes.
TJ is right. mahomes is the best but there is a lot of good players in the league. Mahomes undoubtedly benefits from Andy Reid and amazing weapons. I do think he’s the best.
An argument can be made thar Lamar did that in his first year considering the games played and the amount of quarters played. He sat out the 4th quarter of 5 games.
Look at it this way. There are several QB who would put up numbers similar to Mahomes playing in KC. Nobody would put up numbers like Lamar if they played in Baltimore. KC has a huge advantage with their passing weapons and scheme that you can plug and play several QBs and have success. Mahomes is the one doing it and has played big in the playoffs. He never wilted when a lot of QBs would have. He wins the Super Bowl and he is the man. Ultimate respect to Super Bowls.
@Mike Wiggins Ravens don't have the receiving core for Mahomes to be successful. What can Mahomes do that Stafford can't. They are similar QBs, but Mahomes is in a much better situation. I'm not saying Mahomes isn't great because he has shown it so far in his career. He is in a great situation to succeed.

Exactly! Lamar's season was nearly the same as Cam's MVP year. The only major difference is Cam ran over defenders, and Lamar jukes them out of their cleats. Also Lamar is better at intermediate throws.
You sound clinically insane. There is no season even close to Lamar's season on the books except Lamar. Cam ran people over Lamar ran out of bounds or around people. Lamar sat out 3 week before his playoff game. Next year Lamar will throw for 4500 yards and run for 1500 yards next year. He's going to change the game even more and win a superbowl.

I also think every time he takes off and runs he's playing Russian roulette with his body and eventually he's gonna take a hit that's going to end his season. If he wants to have a long career he'll need to tone the running down or his career will mimic Cam's
Patrick Mahomes is way better than Lamar 😂 he’s choked on the playoffs two years in a row while Mahomes thrives. Mahomes is miles ahead of all the young qbs
You can't fault Mahomes for sitting a season when the Chiefs had a good quarterback at the time. Especially, when after the first game he starts the decision is made to go with him the next season. By the way, I've been a Chiefs fan for 28 years. Even I don't think it's clear Mahomes is the best. There are just way too many variables that go into a team's and quarterback's success. If Mahomes plays for a different coach and that coach tries to break those "bad habits" from college then maybe we're not even talking about him. Reid let Mahomes be Mahomes. They wouldn't have traded away so many future picks to move up and get Mahomes if they wanted to morph him into something else. Mahomes landed with the right team, right coach, at the right time. That being said, he took that advantage to the max. Another quarterback may have squandered it.
I agree with you to a certain extent. Your argument about what if Andy Reid decided to do this or that can be said about John Harbaugh and LamarJackson...what if Harbaugh didn't reconstruct the offense around Lamar's strengths, would we be talking about him having an MVP season? At the end of the day, Mahomes' abilities as a passer are greater than Lamar's. Lamar is a threat to any defense because what he adds in the run game, but the Titans showed that it's easier to stop what Lamar does than it is to stop what Pat does. It's not that many variables involved when you consider that both players have exactly what they need to be successful when it comes to system, coaching and complimentary pieces.
Let's also remember that Patrick Mahomes has now thrown 50 TDs in 3 seasons (KC, Texas Tech, HS) of his young life. Andy Reid doesn't get all the credit. Mahomes works really hard at football.
@@camerondavis8356 I'm not discounting what he's done in any way. I'm just saying if he gets a coach that doesn't let him go be him things may be different. I don't know about his high school, but his college coach was all about the air raid so the coach does matter.
@@johnb3898 I totally believe Mahomes' success is way more sustainable than Lamar. I would rather have a QB that can run just well enough to keep it in the back of the defense's mind than a QB that heavily rely on it running. I've heard people talk about how the longevity of a running QB may be longer because of the rule changes to protect QBs, but once the QB is a runner he's fair game just like anyone else. I think Mahomes could elevate an on team where Lamar wouldn't be able to.
Here’s the problem with the Lamar Jackson vs Patrick Mahomes argument. Would you trust Lamar Jackson to take this year’s Kansas City Chiefs to the Super Bowl in a more dominating fashion than Mahomes did? Because I wouldn’t. I don’t think Lamar could lead the comeback on the Texans or Titans. But Patrick Mahomes DID. This isn’t even an argument at this point.
Sometimes i dont like these segments , why compare an elite QB thats about to play in the SB to another QB that already lost ? Lamar got all the shine when he was playing ..so just give Mahomes his shine
I don’t understand the “he has more weapons” argument? Obviously that’s exactly what a GM is supposed to do get the best players they possibly can! It’s not mahomes fault other GM’s can’t do what ours can.
Mahomes is the greatest QB I’ve ever had the privilege of watching. He’s lucky that he got to study Smith and learn for a year. Lamar went straight into it and it shows .. kind of all over the place. Jackson reminds me of Kaepernick
Russel Wilson is the only QB I can put on Mahomes heels for over-all ability. Lamar Jackson stepped up huge from last season but he gonna end up like Vick if he don’t learn to stop scrambling so much. I’d like to see Lamar Jackson continue to develop but he’s just gonna get to where Mahomes already been.
Andy just has to stay aggressive..ill always love him as a eagle fan but hea not aggressive enough..he has to keep his foot on the gas and run up the score board for the superbowl..KEEP SCORING!!! Do not slow down.
I’m amazed Tony G hasn’t decided to come out of retirement for the SB! Lol. All he had to do is stay in the red zone and just wait for the Mahomes lasers to him! Lol.
No he wouldn't. And the reason why can be seen in that game they lost last week to KC. KC was down 24-0 and Mahomes on the sideline, not sitting, not sulking, but figuring it out and motivating his team to get back into it. Deshaun was sitting on the bench and just watching his team give up a 24 point lead. There was no urgency whatsoever on the field from Deshaun. He isn't the leader Mahomes is. It isn't just about ability/talent.
Is Marcellus is slow? His initial points are becoming more and more awful. Lamar Jackson still can’t make throws on the outside. Mahomes runs when needed and can make any throw. Lamar Jackson had the titans set the edge on the rpo and his impact from running was nullified. Mahomes has lost Kareem hunt and is still wheeling and dealing against top defenses. Marcellus bruh. Just stop it

Indianapolis this year is the only one that is close to bad, but even that was just average by the advanced metrics . Even that wasn't actually that bad. Look at it this way. There are several QB who would put up numbers similar to Mahomes playing in KC. Nobody would put up numbers like Lamar if they played in Baltimore.
