- This week I show you how to play the opening slap line from all the talkingbass.net videos. It's a fairly easy line as long as you have a little slap technique.

"sucked the least" - I literally laughed out at that
Thanks for sharing!
Hey Mark!
I can finally play the lick. Thank to you, I've been learning a lot of stuff regarding the slap bass. The lick itself is a great exercise and a lovely thing to play all the time. Thank you!
I'm actual bum at bass so i cant play it
I am learning so much from you Sir thank you very much. Everything from explaining the riffs you play, the actual lessons and your humor ( "sucked the least" ) Thank you again for sharing and teaching.
the best youtube bass teacher, great lick. regards from chile!
I'm kinda happy of getting this lick just by watching the first two minutes of this videos
Thank you for your lessons!
Wow, this Slap Lick sounds so hard to play, but its really not that hard i expected! Great Lesson and Lick! Thank you
10:10 mark. There is a lot of truth in that.
Can someone confirm...about 7:30 min in you mention that it's easier fast (and I agree) but I believe in the lick at the beginning when played fast you leave out a ghost note (x) and high D on G string popped (7th fret). I actually like it better this way than the ghost (x), D, ghost (x), D as written in the sheet music on your website. Thanks as always Mark, love your material.
I think you are right
Mark-you are a great teacher. I really appreciate your specificity! And, I like your "see what I mean?" face:) When ya kinda look us in the eye. Good stuff bro! Hope you're well. Dave
I always played the last note kinda like how you always clap when hearing the F.R.I.E.N.D.S theme song. Now I can learn the entire thing😍
Now that you mention it. How do you make some triplets and quadruplets slap and muting. I'm aware of some like you've shown but Tommy the Cat would be nice to figure out.
Not sure if it's exactly the techniques you've covered in other lesson.
I googled your Enfield bass. Curious about the pickups. Have to look for a demo video on them, but I don't think you make that kind of video.
when you begin to play, my eyes at first naturally went to you beautiful left hand playing!
Awesome great ....thak U so much
I registered a couple days ago at Talkingbass.net and it´s incredible how much I learned about chords and improvising through your videos and the "practice room" on that website.
Thank you Mark
Practice room? I'll have to check that out straight away.
Mark how close and where do you keep your little finger above the neck for ghost notes. I can't seem to get the snap to sound right , but have no problem slapping a ghost note. Do you let the string hit the middle of your little finger or the tip.
Thank you for this , it's a blast to play and put in my own fills , if I can only get the pull correct and the snap of a ghost note to sound correct , mine sound well wet , I don't know the word to use.
+Mark S B. Pretty much the middle. Use the whole hand for the ghost notes. The first finger will also be laid across.
Mark, thanks for another fun lesson and for demystifying your opening slap line. What you said about being able to hear common slap figures in other peoples slap lines by playing them yourself is so true. Slap lines, especially with a lot of ghost notes used to seem like all smoke and mirrors to me until I got a little skill in playing them myself. Now my ears can pick out many parts relatively easily. Thank you for such wonderful videos.
I didn't know what a ghost note was till I saw a bass tab video of Soul with a Capital S. I'm hooked, now. Percussive additions - neat!
I feel like i pro since i can play this amazing riff
wooooooooooww, thank you so much Master Mark
Great video as always.
I've been waiting for this!!! You have no idea how much these lessons are helping me!! Excellent!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!
ThAnk you I love bass now
Just bought my first bass and this is my favourite channel... Awesome content thank you... Where you from? I'm from Barnsley south Yorkshire, you sound like a Yorkshire man 👍🏼🎸😎
Mark I will be getting my bass this weekend your amazing all the videos have shown me so much THANKS FOR ALL THE VIDEOS
When you slap you seem to have your thumb parallel with the strings, whereas when I do it, my thumb is almost at a right angle with the strings. I can slap brilliantly on the E string and pretty well on the A (if I use my palm to mute the E) but I am hopeless on the D string. Is there any way around this or should I try and re-learn slapping using this technique.
Thanks so much! You helped me loads with learning ghost notes. Thanks for helping me get the hang of them with this awesome bass intro.
Thanks a lot, very easy explanation. I started to study several times, but only your lessons just right for me))).
I enjoy your bass lessons but my bass guitar has spoilt and I would like to know If u could send me a bass guitar and I would appreciate it a lot
Really good lesson and a very cool lick which can be used in many situations and variations...thanx a lot :)
FINALLY!!! I've been wanting to play this forever!
Hey, do you think you could do a video on how to play the bass riff for "Longview" by Green Day?
love the lick .. am wondering if I can play it ...thanks for doing what you do.
Been waiting for this one!
Free to join $25 to get the full lesson, well, certainly in the beginners section!
FINALLY, gr8 riff 4 improvising though
Mark, what special effects are you using?
+Terri Mac No effects on this video or lick. Just bass straight into digital recorder via a Radial DI box.
+TalkingBass - Online Bass Lessons Thanks
Its actually fairly easy didn't expect that thanks
So much to learn from this lick. Can't stop playing this lick cause I like the articulation (as you may call it) that am suprise that am able to play it. Wohoo! By the way because of you I was able to learn to how to slap because of your free lessons. Appreciate it!
Thank you Mark and keep on doing that your doing. More power!
+Sugatang Itlog Thanks a lot!
Mark this Enfield bass is really nice
it isn't very hard to impress people with slap bass. Its always few sets of triplets played fast to hide the real simplicity of the riffs.
at least we got that going. Cant compete with a guitar as a bass player in solo department
+Feras Boulala I don't think impressing people should be on any list of priorities. People might be impressed by some slap licks but it should have no place in the mind of the musician playing the licks.
Such a great instructor!
just go for it... lol. loved it.
Great lesson as always. Thanks!
Great video!! love it!
Thank you!
great!!
This is so funny, I don't know why
+Miroslav Bass What's so funny about me!? lol ruclips.net/video/IWINtUCshxY/видео.html
