- The Conqueror in War Thunder is simply put one of the most devastating vehicles in the game. The 120mm cannon is fully stabilised and packs a HUGE punch. The APDS is the largest and heaviest in the game and pretty much can one shot anything you face.
Due to the new APDS changes the round almost has enough penetration to go through 500mm of armour at point blank and due to the weight that doesn't drop off much at long distances. On paper, this change looks amazing but APDS has been behaving really strangely since the update.
Today, we take a look to see what's what and show you what this thing can do!

"Am I gonna be the only one on our flank?" Story of my life in WT.
I was on that exact same map, same battle mode as Odd'z. Went on the same flank as him as well, alerted the team to it too. Got pincered, went out again alerted the team again. Got pincered again. The team got absolutely stomped as those tanks pushed forward and pincered everyone else as well. Not one team member came to help me. I feel your pain.

With all the shell ejection animations they've been adding, I really hope they don't forget conqueror. Not many realise it had an auto-eject system. That's what that door on the right side of the turret is for.

@@LittleKittenTheCaptainGeneral They give it more attention than the American tree, at least they didn't lock a most common vehicle behind and Event like the M8 car.
That shoot at IS-4M is beautiful ( 18:36 ). Purpose of big Conqueror's gun exactly shown here. To defeat soviet heavies. 140mm armour at good angles! Just beautiful, like a knife through butter.
He actually shot the 160mm armor part, not the 140.
Also, iirc that part is volumetric, and he hit the edge, so he propably went through less than 100mm lol

Thought I'd mention the shell disappearing is a bug I saw in a video by Spookston detailing what's wrong with the recent update and he listed that as a bug
Sabo is bugged still it seems like if any parts hit the sabo(example: optics or turret drive) it simply disappears. Because if you shoot low on a T 54 the sabo still travels the length of the vehicle. But the moment it hits an optic the sabo is gone
I have never noticed this. I play with the m60 and it's never happened to me. But then again the m60's APDS has fuckall spall damage so I HAVE to aim for weak spots ._.
@@Fizzyxd Odd bawz shows it off in the video too your sabo simply disappears, especially when he hits a turret ring
@@Fizzyxd it's a bug introduced after the update with the penetration buff to sabo so I'm not surprised u didn't notice it but go grab a T 54 and shoot the upper front plate in the hanger if u look closely you'll notice only the Shrapnel will appear and the sabo is gone
So it is a bug but not how you're thinking, after the update APDS would take a hard turn post pen and launch through the floor of the tank, for reasons no one can explain. That's the bug, the "fix" is that they turned off APDS post pen so it just disappears, then bumped up the spalling to hope that the spalling would replace the slug itself. This is fine like 90% of the time... except when fighting things with spaced armor, check out the class 3P in protection analysis and you'll see the thin spaced armor (in particular the turret, it's not even consistent among spaced armor) completely invalidates the APDS, even a 500mm pen one like the conqueror.
It's so fucked up it's actually insane.

6:25 I like that when breach is broken, tanks will still fire, but round will just make no damage. That is making no sense.

@@SP-sy5nq I'm just a couch expert in tanks, but broken barrel can lead to shell detonation inside it, but it's only possibility. It would not lead to shell being a potato with zero damage.
@Danoncho apds wouldn't explode or any fin/sabot rounds they are only metal with fins not solid shot rounds like aphe, hesh, heat
Conquerer is a beautiful combination of all the qualities that make the British ground tree special and I love it to bits
The day the update dropped it seemed like the apds post pin was great buffed I was using a 5.7 British line up and destroying everyone I came across in one shot with a sabot

YES finally a WT content creator made a vid on the 120mm for the Conquerer/Conway APDS buff
Unless you have an encyclopaedic knowledge of where to hit tanks at the BR you're playing at, APDS is basically the assist king.
That being said it's been amazing for Wingman wagers, very few things will out assist you so getting the higher levels of that wager has been fairly easy.

Sloped pen falls off at range much faster and early APDS currently shatters real quick

Iv shot at this thing multiple times repeatedly with HEATFS and never penned it.
Add on armor completely eliminates the threat of Heat-fs
@@limabeanzzzz low pen heatfs that is, anything more than 380mm of pen of heatfs can go through, things like m103 leopards and ikv, low pen heatfs though cannot such as the m47, bmp1 and most of the annoying stuff like the raketnaut, ush and 90mm heat in genreal. worth nothing the mantlet seems to swallow everything more than half the time, including atgms, ive experienceed it many times swalloing 400mm heatfs and atgms to the mantlet, u could even take a look at the armor viewer and see it literally eats everything

@@limabeanzzzz very true. Its what makes the Ratels and the Eland very bad light tanks, because if the heat decides to do jack, youre punished for it.

Theres an even worse bug that surprisingly Spookstons the only CC has mentioned where specifically Swedish APDS (Even if its actually a russian or british shell) Are going straight down on a penetrating shot
I’ve had this from APDS of nations that aren’t Sweden
It's thanks to this buff and the general survivability and mobility of the Conq that I managed to drop my first ever nuke since they were introduced. It's also become one of my favorite 7.7 vehicles only beaten out by the AMX-30.
I have been having issues with pressing fire and nothing happening with the current patch myself. It's really irritating.
Compare the current post-pen spalling of the Conqueror's 120mm APDS to the APBC shell of the French 120mm lol, this needs to be worked on.
All of post war france does.
Gaijin being a silly goose by buffing a 7.7 tank with a 9.7 sabot and nerfing a 9.3 tank (kpz-70) by giving it a 7.7-worth apfsds

The conqueror needs a buff though. And it uses apds not apfsds. Just look at the 60 degree pen. Its bad.
I tried to use the conquerer the other day but I've given up, that big pen value is good and all but it's useless because the apds just doesn't work I've found, a T-44s upper front plate can ricochet this round somehow...

Have been trying to grind for the Chieftain with the Conqueror and the APDS had been awful for me. So much to the point that i have resorted to using HESH almost exclusively. Although HESH can be hard to use I've found that it alot more reliable.
It's so satisfying to get kills with too, I used to use it in my Patton to grind for the HEAT but I'm finding I do better with just the HESH
@@cheetahda1o763 I would recommend the APHE on the patton and try and hit side shots and flanks and learning weak spots, because you face plenty of light tanks which are an easy one shot

Yesterday I shot a Wirbelwind around 5 times with the APDS of the T54E1 directly into the turret ring from the right side. No damage…
HEAT has been weird today as well. Havent been able to one shot much like usual.

Its good tank but nothin special.
I think that this much Pen Is more of a downside than Help. Even before it used to overpen often. But if you know to hit ammo and use armor Smart it Is pretty decent tank

any, ap round seems to either shrapnel, and hit every one, but no one dies, or it simply disappears. its quite saddening..

It depends on the projectile hardness too, if its pushing metal apart, that metal is squeezing back on the APDS, which could make it just grenade on the other side of the armor, too fractured and decompressing with no core slug.
I was planning on skipping the mars in the French nation but the HOT light tank you unlock before the mars is so god damn awful for it’s tier.
The Conqueror APDS has been strange. So much pen and yet it bounces off of a Leo 1 turret face. But you can kill the entire turret crew of an M48 if it pens and spalling is insane.
It's weird M728 APDS did not change with the new update, though.

Btw SWE reserv tier 37mm now pen 115mm flat pen and the fact that tungsten APDS now shrapnel like HESH inside tanks… it’s stupid strong.

Interestingly this update has fucked up spalling on british apds (which was already minimal), and it increased ‘shell shattered’ moments, whenever you hit an optic or an overlap. I’d argue it is a nerf, since the apds on the 17pdr was already penetrating almost everything at it’s br
I don't think the devs understand what a piece of hot steel bouncing at 1000m/s in a confined space can do

About the core diapering while its most likley a bug apds cores are generally made out of 1 of 2 materials. Tungsten alloy or tungsten carbide. One is brittle and will shatter during penetration

It was already way better then the maus/e100 and it got even better perhaps the maus/e100 can finally get the 7.3 it needed the past 2 years and this can go to 8.0

Yeah you'd expect it to cave the leopard-1's armor in, only the turret ring just turns to "orange" 😂 Yeah that's the war thunder we all know.

I love this tank. Type of tank where you sit and laugh when you’re not being penned yet can pen them
Conqueror is my most played tank, my issue is the armor over the speed, the speed is fine, heavy tanks shouldnt be fast and dont need to be. Imo I wish the conquerors armor profile was more consistent.
Don't forget the Russian 122mm on the T-10M has APDS. I don't think it has as much effective pen but it's still slightly bigger
It has less mass, but is larger in caliber.

conquerer is so neat that the commander actually has a seperate turret within the turret able to focus on the next target and mark it so after first target is down the turret turns to second target that the commander had eyes on already, very neat and i dont care about any of warthunders qwirks but, but they need to do something about the barrel going through rocks and buildings why not just make it solid like everything else, itll be tough to get used to but if gta5 can do it warthunder can...then u can actually use buildings to turn ur turret faster especially in an m10

@@michaelbeale559 To be fair I can go as far as to use all my spawns available if I got so immersed into the match (or frustrated, depending on the situation)
Through I've found myself normally spawning 3 times by the end of a relatively average/good match, 2 times if I'm having a bad time
And I want it to stay that way

Ice been attempting to play the m901 recently 8.0 every game I always find marders. I'm genuinely baffled. Maybe are squadron vehicles able to be uptiered that far? I'd say no but they keep popping up. I've been playing that using a t92 as a backup yeah I've got nothing

All the comments about the calibre- yes, the T10 may have a 122mm gun, but, I don't know which tank has the LARGER penetrator. As in, once the Sabot falls away/flies off, which actual round is greater in diameter?

APDS can no longer pen overlapping plates, like on the Ferdinands hull, beyond 100m. It just shatters now.
The only thing keeping me from playing this anymore is the fact thiers no radar aa at 7.7 for britain, I really don't need to get bombed repeatedly
