My dad introduced me to Todd when I was about five or six. He had a copy of utopia anthology 74 to 85. My little mind was blown! A wizard a true star is my favorite album by far, with my favorite song being sometimes I don’t know what to feel! Great video!

You nailed the rating for “Acapella” ; that record is mind blowing. Gonna check out “Healing” now, never gave that the same chance.

Thank you! For me that album just gets better and better the more I listen to it. There’s so much depth to it and I always pick up on new things and develop new appreciations for different tracks after every listen. Definitely give Healing a few listens that album is mind blowing in my opinion. Thanks a lot for watching!

Great job Mike. It's not often that someone get's Todd's music pretty spot on. As a lifelong fan I'd move Initiation to an S. It's limited but has a few of his greatest compositions (Initiation, Fair Warning). Love that you put State up there. An absolutely underappreciated album.
I've never been able to get into Arena either. Love Courage, that's about it.

I agree for the most part. Hermit and Healing are also two of my favorites. I'd move Runt up to A and Acapella down to B. Re-production, Johnson, State and Global are all D's for me. Devil's Bite, Who's That Man, Black and White, Chant and Drive are all great songs! Rock out a little man!

Nice! Glad we both have the same top 2. I’d recommend giving Acapella a few more listens it definitely grew on me more and more over time and didn’t hook me right from the first listen but now it very well may be my 3rd after Hermit and Healing. I also feel the same way about State, I listened to that album a bunch during the lockdown and something about it really resonated with me and grew on me. I really enjoy Todd’s darker side and I think that album is probably his darkest work yet. Thanks a lot for listening!

I am almost ashamed to admit that I 100% agree with your ratings and everything that you said about the particular album. Hermit and Healer are also my favorite albums with Accapella and Wizard close up behind. I can't stand American stuff as a general rule as it seems to lack originality but that is certainly something that Todd could never be accused of, along with Zappa and very few others.

Check 70s Steely Dan or Sparks. well, I guess you know. Funkadelic and Parliament also come to mind although Clinton is not on par with the kinds of TR or Steely Dan...

Great video! For Runt, the rock songs, I feel, are what drives it, and I love them. I also love the more jazzy ones. But for songs like Believe In Me, or There Are No Words, I think those styles are done better in the next album.
Also I will not hear a word against the last 3 songs on TEPTAE lol. Have you heard the other version of Drive, from Hello It's Me And My Friends?
Yay, another A Cappella fan! That was my first album, as we sung Hodja in our school choir, and that's how I started this obsession.
Want of a Nail and I Love My Life are some of my favourite Todd songs ever, and Parallel Lines is one I don't care for. Interesting.
    No mention of Kindness? :(
That reminds me, I must listen to all his 21st-century work - I only knew White Knight and One Long Year.

Thanks for the video. I always felt that Hermit was Todd's attempt to replicate the success of Something Anything in a condensed form. It was a definite u-turn from what he had been doing. I pretty much go along with your ratings. A Capella would be a B or C for me, a failed experiment. With A Twist- A. The TR-I albums would be a C for me- very disappointing. State- B along with Global.

Good overall analysis and excellent presentation, but as a Todd fan I have to say that most of these albums are ranked at least a grade too high (and in the cases of A Capella and State WAY too high). Todd has proven to be a very talented artist and producer but he is not Godd and he has released some lesser albums along the way (especially his late-period obsession with electronica).
