I recently discovered this rather old-school band, and have fallen in love with their raw rock sound and harmonies.

YourFaceGdDmit Thanks! I played classical music for many years until I started playing covers, and that definitely gave me a strong base and improved my musical hearing.

How long do you think it takes to be able to play things like this?
I played piano when i was a kid (my grandma is a piano teacher), but quit when I got to high school because I was too busy with sports. I'm 30 now and I bought an electric keyboard this week and started again last night. Just refreshing my memory with basic chords, and I played the first 2 sections of Prelude in C by Bach.
It's super simple, but felt good to play something I recognized. I plan on taking lessons from my grandma again, but will be working on the other days to learn covers and things. Is it too late for me to be really good?
GlockGuy1926 First of all, you are doing the right thing, as piano is the best instrument (and probably thing) in the world :D
Secondly, it's more complicated than that. It's never too late to practice and learn and get better, the question is what you do and how much effort you put into it. I practiced classical piano for many years before I started playing covers, and that's what developed my skills for covers in the first place.
@@eliavlevy I agree, I started playing 1 year ago. I'm 32. Couldn't afford teacher before. I honestly don't care how long it takes, everything counts, everything I learn brings me joy. Its like meditation. I am on autism spectrum and bpd, started to listen to piano in high-school and finally I'm learning. Its worth the patience. I love learning theory and notes. Thats the only math I ever loved. Piano is your best friend and listens to you unlike boyfriend. Its cathartic and beautiful. Improvisation is my favourite part, I am beginner but I love improvisation. I haven't learnt any covers yet. I'm going through book Piano Adventures for adults, ending book 1.. everything you invest in piano might save your sanity one day

I disagree, Alex did a more complicated version and messed it up, I'm up for jazzing things but for that many mistakes, I would have personally re-recorded it, that's to say he is great at what he does but it needs to be refined and more accurate and that's difficult with that sort of cover. This version doesn't have any mistakes according to my pitch perfect hearing and I've played many instruments and in many orchestras, so I'd go for this on on this basis, it is the better version.
