- Kora, a bakery in Queens, is known for doughnuts filled with traditional Filipino flavors. Kimberly Camara runs Kora out of her small apartment where she, her boyfriend, her mom, and some extended family work tirelessly each week to pump out over 500 donuts to eager customers. While the doughnut flavors change week to week, the signature leche flan doughnut is the star of the show, it’s a brioche doughnut filled with leche flan cream, topped with leche flan and burnt caramel, and then sprinkled with powdered sugar.

tbh this reminded me of a scary story where a husband feeds people his wife’s dead body because he loved her so much, like worshipping.
Grandma's recipe book will never fail you. Inspiring story of people making an opportunity out of the pandemic and at the same time having Kimberly's grandma immortalized through the food they make.
Love how you objectively reviewed the doughnut. Not like other reviewers where they bite it and say "hmmmmmmm" and then wraps up the review
I want to have my own bakery and cafe shop. The fact that I love and miss my Grandmother so much, this is just so ❤️💚💙.
That’s a beautiful story. One centered around family.
THEY ARE DELICIOUS!! i had these donuts 5x. Just before these donuts became viral. Now?! I can’t seem to get in anymore hahaa
Wow, to that Leche Flan filled doughnuts!🤤

Whaddya know, Philippines was once a colony in Spain or if I’m wrong somebody will eventually correct me
Tis why lots of dish are kind of merged or influenced by Spain dishes or stuff idk
@Dani P Well, Spain invaded the Philippines for over 300 years. However, when I saw the recipe book in the video it was written in Filipino.
@Dani P flan isn't the only thing there in the video. There's also ube and somehow like a concept of halo halo which are both traditional Filipino desserts.

If you watch it till the end you will see the names of the flavored doughnuts.
@@rumblefish9 "halo halo flavor" lmao
Yeah it was
@@chrono-glitchwaterlily8776 what is funny about that? Halo halo is a flavor in the Philippines. We have halo halo flavored ice cream here. This is how they describe the donut:
"Halo-halo doughnut complete with classic mix-ins like flan, pinipig, banana chip and sago, and whipped with coconut cream with kaong and ube glaze. There’s even a maraschino cherry on top!"
Everyone's saying oh the video is definitely filipino while i'm here tearing up about how she found the leche flan recipe. I bet her lola kora's proud af in heaven. 😭
It's just so flippin wholesome, I think we all love it ❤
She said in a different interview that she found her grandma’s old recipe book when/after she died.
These are the type of chefs who truly inspire while paying homage to grandma's recipe. Unlike the "fancy" upturned nose chefs who would put gold leaf and caviar on a donut.
I know right
Yeah i would rather eat a glazed donut than a donut with caviar -_-
They are both valid.

This is the beginning of Kora's Donuts. Then a year later, they operate in a cloud kitchen to fulfill bigger orders and their customer base grew over time. Great job! Maybe in the future when I go to NYC. I will order a box of these.
I just watched their video from Eater. It's amazing how they moved from an apartment to a bigger kitchen and the owners are still hands-on!
The owners are pastry chefs by trade.
@@iahphrodite samee got this in my recommends after watching that
Me too. :)
Hi...what is a cloud kitchen? 🙂
So a year ago I moved from California to Indiana and my neighbors in CA were Filipinos and the food was amazing not to mention the family. Now I have a additional my bucket list wanting these donuts and being so close to NY now!
My childhood best friend was Filipina and her mom made the absolute best leche flan, there is nothing like her halo halo topped with flan I miss it so much 🥺
I just watched another, more recent video on Kora, where the crew is still working hard, but now in a commercial kitchen. It's really gratifying to see this success.
Very creative donuts with a twist of popular Filipino desserts. Great for breakfast or afternoon miryenda. ♡♡♡ ☆ ♡♡♡
Yeah its super duper yummy :)
Its better when its creamy for me
(you can do that by removing the whites)

Ikr? I expected it to be kinda cramped but bruhh
Their business is going well, so it makes sense that they can afford that big apartment in NY.
For a business like this, it's probably cheaper to rent an apartment (studio?) than a pricey restaurant space that would lock them into a longer lease. Plus since people are fleeing NY, I bet they got a good deal
At first I thought it was going to be two people living and running their shop from a tiny apartment, too, and I thought...hmm where do they sleep in there? lol

Welcome to the Former Spanish Colonies Club.
Leche flan is definitely not only a filipino thing, it's popular through whole latin america, probably because of spanish influence.
Yeah the Spaniards occupied the Philippines for 330+ years. A lot of Spanish desserts are still around 🌅
It didnt originate in the Philippines but the flan was most likely influenced by the Philippines for like 300+ years and filipinos adapted it to the point it became a national food
So yeah that answers your questions

When a Filipino/Filipina is featured in any video I feel proud for them even I don’t know them. It’s like our Nation is just a Whole Big Ass Family🥰
One thing about the pandemic has Ben the ability to find and connect with many home chefs on Instagram who offer their culture’s foods or specific dishes that I otherwise would have a harder time to find in restaurants. I’ve had Indonesian, Lao, Sri Lankan food that were very good!

I love how filipinos are slowly introducing these delicious childhood filipino dishes to other countries
we are everywhere since the Spanish colonization. We got more widespread everywhere because we have a lot of overseas Filipino workers mostly because some jobs, such as in healthcare, have low wages and a lot of work abuses here in the Philippines, which is sad. Leche flan is a Spanish passed down desert from the Philippines. Many western countries including those that had been under Spanish and Portuguese rule would have similar or close to similar version of this. I heard Mexico has a flan with 1 egg and lots of milk, steamed to perfection just like how we do it here in the Philippines traditionally - steamed.
