- We spent a day in Sligo meeting people on the streets, asking them several key questions about their experience of living in or visiting Sligo. Some really interesting feedback, done in a vox pop style.

Also Swedish. County Sligo is absolutely incredible. Been traveling a lot around the island and Sligo is defiantly one of my favorite places.

Too much choice is bad? seriously, that's the cry of the town council and local business owners whenever an outside shop franchise or a cheaper shop wants to open in Sligo, the city council fight every outside business, 30 years ago they stopped every outsider from opening shops there, thankfully there's more in Sligo now, but we need more.

Why has Sligo got only 3 Connacht football titles compared to Roscommon who have 23 given both counties have similar population's of around 65,000.?????
there is very simple answer .Sligo town is a GAA desert to put it mildly it simply does not exist .Its a soccer town.That leaves 40 000 in the country GAA is number 1 even there then they are many soccer clubs in the country.Roscommon would be very much GAA county and it has no large town equivalent to sligo population is evenly spread more suitable for the parish club nature of GAA.In short sligo pick is the same as leitrim or longford or fermanagh and roughly the same number of clubs 20ish whereas roscommon has 35 clubs
Because Sligo is not a gaelic town.

Hi Dennis because sligo town is literally a soccer town even though sligo town has a big population vast majority are soccer players that's really the reason also a lot depends on footballing ability

Sligo 3 Connacht Titles, Roscommon 24 Connacht Titles.
Both have a population of 65,000.
So how come Sligo are so awful dreadful and inept ???

St Mary's based in Sligo Town have 3 Connacht Senior Cub Titles where's all the Clubs based in County Sligo away from the Town have never won a Single senior Connacht Cub title between them !!
For me Sligo Football managers have failed to deliver the hairdryer treatment to the County flops down thru the years and decades !!
Sligo gaa have no ambition to win Connacht titles on a regular basis and the Sligo GAA board are simply wallowing in extreme mediocrity!
Quite Simply Sligo with a driving burning ambition at board room level plus a proper coaching setup and highly ambitious football management could easily have at least 17 Connacht Senior County Titles by now after 130 years of toiling away and extreme excuse making.
The major difference for me between The Super Rossies and Sligo is a driving burning ambition to be successful ie 2010 when Sligo beat Mayo and Galway to reach the Final but lost to Roscommon in the final.
A fierce drive to win Connacht titles is urgently required from the Board the management and the players this is what Roscommon have had for decades upon decades !!
Sligo have a total lack of ambition!
Why not go for a big name manager like Micky Harte when he became available instead the board let the grass grow under their feet and let Harte slip thru their fingers and join Louth.
If the Gaa is to be number one in Sligo then a monster change in mentality is required from all in the Sligo GAA community otherwise people will always continue to associate Sligo sports with Sligo Rovers Football Club.
Such a pity Sligo is profoundly homophobic and about 30 years behind the UK on diversity. It's a horrifically Insular town, and the beliefs of multiple generations within it resonate the mindset of old fashioned institutions. Men darent even look at each other for fear of people thinking they might be gay, its an emotionally repressed environment that clearly hasn't caught up with the rest of the world, in fact being that it's definitely the effects of Catholicism at work Sligo and most of Ireland will never move forward. If you are heavily closeted and have severely repressed feelings to the extent that you have to cough at or even attack people then you'll be right at home in Sligo.
