@@odinikita4821why? I welcome electric cars. It is inevitable and needs to be done to decrease greenhouse gas emissions. I love cars but this is bigger than a few people wanting to drive ICE sports cars.
I will say dealer markups are price gouging and should be illegal. I tried to test drive a 22 civic SI yesterday and not only was the dealer not allowing test drives, they added a 6k markup on top of MSRP. So a 32k car is now 38 and out the door is over 40k. That's ridiculous
Oh I've experienced worse. Tried to test drive the Supra last year, and the dealer was like: "Let's run your credit and discuss price first. Once you decide to buy the car, you may feel free to test drive it." How the fxxk is that a test drive if I already bought the car?!

I figured I'd do that as I can't think of another decent area either. Hope this helps, love your videos and am eagerly awaiting my GR86 order's arrival!

First thing I did with my '17 was pull the plug from the 12 volt socket behind the glove box and use it to plug the noise tunnel. It is an annoying sound.
@@xSikks But maybe you should have kept it plugged, since the last gen model did not have any fake engine sound. There was a sound pipe that physically amplified the engine sound from the engine bay. The sound coming from the pipe was 100% real. The new gen model (2022 onwards) are the ones that actually have fake engine sound emitted from speakers. In fact the sound emitted does not sound like an engine at all. It seems like some sine waves were combined to create a new noise to simulate engine noise. The end result sounds terrible.
I hope Toyota/Subaru finds a way to keep this car alive in the age of electrification. I think something along the lines of a electric motor sandwiched between a manual transmission and a gas engine like the original Honda Insight should be adapted here!

@TheTopher great video! Anyway possible for you to create your top 3 list of cars that you review in each car category / segment? Sometimes it's difficult for the audience to compare your feedback between two good reviews of the cars from the same segment. Having your preference supported by your experience in a top 3 list, etc. would be super helpful.

Thanks for releasing these videos, they’ve held me over until I was able to pick up my Halo Premium MT GR86 earlier this month! If you see one driving around Novi, give me a wave or flag me down for a chat! I also removed the clutch helper spring as I really enjoyed my 13’ BRZ much more with it removed. I also adjusted the clutch travel to have less dead travel prior to the engagement point (it now sits slightly above the brake pedal), have you tried this? Took about 5 minutes, it feels a lot more natural to me now, and I wish I had done this to my BRZ while I had it. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts.
I got my GR 86, and I love it.... seriously this beast is amazing to drive. Best purchase I could have made. Should I stick to 16' inch tires for winter tires?

The BRZ or GT86 here would cost around $40k~$45k when paid in cash, and around $50k~55$k when paid in terms. Hopeful to even buy the older model used, because I truly love this car. Hi Topher, Enjoy all your videos about brz so much actually because of your I bought my BRZ ad I'm loving it. Two things: Wondering if the engine makes a clank sound or noise when you cruising in first and second gears? Also sometimes I find that when 2nd gear goes into 3rd gear it feels like it's hitting gears if I change it a bit fast. Are these normal? Thanks !!
The brz is truly something special. I miss my 2014 frs. Still the best feeling manual transmission and clutch in any car I’ve driven. So satisfying to drive and corner with. Unfortunately I couldn’t deal with the stiff suspension and manual trans for daily driving, it just became a headache for me. But on night drives with just me and the car, nothing else mattered but that connection. Wish I could have just one more night ride with it. Great video!
I’m surprised you went with this over the WRX for a daily driver based on both of the videos you posted. Seems like the WRX premium would be more practical with the car seat and both cars (wrx premium) are roughly the same price. Also WRX is all wheel drive and you like in MI with a lot of snow. Great reviews though thx
I'm probably gonna wait until next year but I'm really itching to sell my CX-5 and get into something smaller and back to driving a stick. I'm basically gonna cross-shop every manual under 40k that isn't a complete dog but I'm kinda leaning BRZ. It just looks so fun.
Thanks for the extended insight! I'd be happy to see you make more videos on it. I have one question if you don't mind: Are the mode settings sticky? Does it stay in sports mode after you turn off the car? Same with traction control and lane keeping assist. It is one of the main things that annoy me about modern cars. Having to configure things every time the car is started. It's what makes me think to get a base model as it hopefully comes with less. Though it might be different in Australia. The Type R came with lane keeping and other annoyances in AU when it didn't yet in other countries. PS: I did watch your Type R videos many many times. And when I got to a point of being able to buy one they stopped making them. I'm hopying to have more success with the new GR86 once it makes it to AU.
Honestly for me I wanted the Limited (or GTS for the toyota) for the sound system, lights, heated seats ect..... but I HATE the feel of suede, so I'm worried I couldn't stand the feel of the seats or door pads
Any plans to review the mx5 2022 with KPC? Im interested to hear what you think of the new brz/gr86 vs mx5 now with all the changes made to both the cars
Hey @TheTopher #TheTopher , watch at 7:46, but with all love bro, I love watching your videos but ain’t tire pressure always physical? Lol thought that was funny, thought I should share 😂
Re the pad for right leg tunnel. My '17 Limited has that and it seems like it doesn't hit me in the right place. It is right where you showed you wish you had one. Nice that you can drive and compare the two trim levels.
My only question about this car. How is its audio system for the limited? And how would u guys compare it to the audio system on the 2021 wrx sti limited? There's no good comparison videos out there so wanted to see if anyone knew
Hey Topher, couple questions! How does the music sound on highway compared to an ND soft top miata? The miata bothered me since I couldnt really hear the music with all the wind noise. Also you mentioned 28-29 mpgs. Whats your typical commute? Ive heard huge ranges of mpgs for this car… some saying as low as 21 mpgs. I feel like ~25-26 combined might be an accurate assumption?
You said you would update us on everything you’d do to the car. You did not update us on the camber bolts and adjusting your camber. I just ordered a 2023 premium from factory and I’m following you very closely.
@TheTopher Thank you so much for doing another review and including the sound system test. Your channel is truly the best for car reviews. Anytime I wan to see what a car is like I search TheTopher (car here) :)
Fingers crossed, everyone. Come noon tomorrow, I may or may not have a reserve on a 6-speed GR86. I've only driven manual a handful of times, outside of sims with a full setup, so it'll certainly be a learning experience, but I'm chomping at the bits, waiting. EDIT: No dice. The allotment to my local dealership was only for ONE automatic, zero manuals. I will try to remember to update in two weeks, after they get the next allotment.
Thanks for the night drive and test of the adaptable headlights. Do you know if they adapt for hills? I have the '17 and I think they went to a single illumination source with an "eye lid" type shroud that drops down over the top half of the light source to make the low beams. They have a brutally sharp horizontal cut off across the entire beam spread and are bizarre on hills. (Some engineers somewhere should be slapped for this design.)
@@2qwik4u Thanks! Just to be clear, you have the '22 Limited? (So they kept the "eyelid" for vertical, but added horizontal movement? Wow! Can't believe more people have not complained about the eyelid situation. Going down a rolling down hill, the top section of the hill just vanishes, creating a weird illusion.)
Driving a 2011 prius i will definitely will pick this up when it kicks the bucket which might not be for a couple of years but ill be ready for any opportunities
The thing to keep in mind is that YOU are going to kick the bucket. Life is too short to spend it driving a twelve yr old Prius. Go out there and make it happen!
Hey Topher and fans, do you have recommendations on other tires? When I test drove the GR86 Premium the Michelin’s literally hurt my ears on the freeway. My ears still hurt 5+ hours later after the only 10-15 minutes on the highway. Loved the handling and shifter otherwise.
Those pilot sport 4s are really bad. Continental extremecontact sports will be a lot quieter, pretty much anything else in that category will offer better noise levels. Downsizing to 17s will help too
Im glad you said "Australia comes with a spare (tyre/tire)" because I was wondering why I sometimes saw a spare sitting in the middle of the boot/trunk in some videos and not others. Since im in Australia mine will obviously come with a spare (full size actually).. I wonder if I can pull it out and put in the repair kit instead to utilise more boot/truck space?
I wish the WRX got all the sporty tech from this car, I guess it really shows the wrx is not supposed to be a true sports car. I like my analog gauges but all those other features are neat, and the shift light is cool too.
I filmed a few GR86 videos from the launch last year 🙌 here’s the review: 2022 Toyota GR 86 Premium - POV Driving Impressions ruclips.net/video/FSzsU0lyv-U/видео.html
Different classes of cars so not directly comparable. Also they provide different experience. M2 offers more of everything except perhaps pure connection between driver and the car. Which might be the reason itself to go BRZ/gr86. Keep in mind, M2 will be significantly more expensive over the long run. If your finances allow for it, go m2, but since you're asking this particular question, I think you would be better of with BRZ/gr86. You want to own the car. You don't want the car to own you.
Agree on the steering. Apparently the rack is very slightly slower (13.5 v 13.0) but it feels like they’ve upped the assistance a bit too. It’s like they’ve been influenced by the ND Miata. It’s accurate enough and probably makes the car feel a bit more “chuckable”, but it’s lost quite a bit of feel (maybe any feel) in my opinion. Probably the only thing that I think the new model has gone slightly backwards on. Agree with the knee pad! The voice command initiation is from the steering wheel button. I accidentally knock it all the time too.
I couldn't hear it in your video, but are you experiencing any sort of out of the norm transmission noise with your BRZ? When I depress the clutch in mine, I occasionally get a metallic rattling noise. It also makes some interesting noises if I'm coasting at 1700-2100 RPM with no throttle input.
few things prevent me from purchasing this car. wish it was a lift or hatchback as trunks aren't as practical. also, the final gearing is too short. sure there's passing power in 6th gear as topher mentioned because the car shouldn't be sitting at 3k rpm @ 70mph in 6th. cruising speed on the pa turnpike here in the north-east for example is between 80 & 90mph, and hearing the engine scream at 4k+ rpm (in any car) is fatiguing. veloster n with dct fixes both problems, thing sits around 2k @ 80mph, has a hatch & a turbo. still have respect for the 86, just doesn't work for me as a daily.
Not the best daily for sure. Doable, but not optimal. Veloster n dct does address it, but doesn't come with rwd or AWD and that sweet chassis. It's a balancing act.
Overgearing is a plague of modern manual trans cars. Subaru did exactly the right thing with the gearing in this car. It's for having fun in, not comfortable highway driving.
You mentioned moving the lower bolt of the front knuckle into the top hole and installing a camber bolt in the lower hole. Are you at all concerned about this? Surely the bolt size was chosen for a reason by subaru, is the smaller diameter safe?
The more videos I see about BRZ, the more I become interesred. It's probably one of the last true sport cars before dawn of inevitible elctric age.
I have the same feeling for this

I'm on the other end, I have been daily driving mine for 4 years now and don't care for a softer suspension.
The new model is definitely more compliant than the old one…which is a good thing.
First time ever to see a car review around Ann Arbor!!
Still can't get over how beautiful the new twins are. The old ones looked great too but I'm happy they didn't do some outlandish 2020s styling
Great shout out to SavageGeese in his natural form.
Great video! That is one slick car.
Any plans to review the mx5 2022 with KPC? Im interested to hear what you think of the new brz/gr86 vs mx5 now with all the changes made to both the cars
Dude i cant wait for mine to get here been waiting since February
Did you receive it how do you like it?
Hey @TheTopher #TheTopher , watch at 7:46, but with all love bro, I love watching your videos but ain’t tire pressure always physical? Lol thought that was funny, thought I should share 😂
we need substitute topher reviewing your car
Re the pad for right leg tunnel. My '17 Limited has that and it seems like it doesn't hit me in the right place. It is right where you showed you wish you had one. Nice that you can drive and compare the two trim levels.
My only question about this car. How is its audio system for the limited? And how would u guys compare it to the audio system on the 2021 wrx sti limited? There's no good comparison videos out there so wanted to see if anyone knew
The difference between the two BRZ. The old one can reach over 230KMH the new BRZ is electronically limited to 226KMH
21 isn’t that bad. I get 22 in my Honda Civic that is supposed to get 38 mpg
@@Dragon228833 Your civics got some serious problems man LOL
You said you would update us on everything you’d do to the car. You did not update us on the camber bolts and adjusting your camber. I just ordered a 2023 premium from factory and I’m following you very closely.
Going to do a video on track prep here soon, just gotta get the brake pads installed!
@@TheTopher understood sir! Please let us know what parts you got and where you got them from ☺️😬.
@@TheTopher still waiting boss :)
Love the delay in the gear indicator. Maybe it really - what gear you just left.... lol.
just got mine delivered yesterday, just in time for the last snowstorm lol
That’s how it works haha congrats!
@@TheTopher Thanks! Put 200 miles on it this weekend, I think Im in love lol
That’s a great question, I don’t have many hills to test on but I don’t think they do.
Just came here to agree that sharp cut offs are terrible, and I hope this doesn't have them.
They do not, it's only left/right. I have a limited and have noticed the same thing, I can see the cut off on highway signs all the time.
Yes to lightweight fun rwd sports cars!
The new gen 86 is a good improvement from the first gen.
I definitely prefer the BRZ without the piped in noise, was just wasted time IMO to include that.
Nice video. Thanks!
Does the BRZ have duel injection (port and direct) like that of the 86?
"here we have a dyno map, that actually shows a small torque dip" LOL
Love this car got an alfa romeo 4c and BRZ. These cars r so fun not much HP but tons of fun.
I wish the WRX got all the sporty tech from this car, I guess it really shows the wrx is not supposed to be a true sports car. I like my analog gauges but all those other features are neat, and the shift light is cool too.
i'm glad to hear the clutch is better . i drove the first gen FRS and that clutch was waaaaaaay too vague. a lot of stalling.
Damn, the infotainment and knobs/buttons for hvac is perfect. I wish they used this on the new 22/23 base WRX ugh...
You forgot about the blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
When are you going to change your profile pic to the your new 86?
Would love to see your drive if you can get your hands on an 86!
I filmed a few GR86 videos from the launch last year 🙌 here’s the review: 2022 Toyota GR 86 Premium - POV Driving Impressions

Don't cry no matter how bitter it is - Despite the pain
Would you rather get a brz/gr86 or save up and wait for the next bmw m2?
And ditto on opening the center storage with my elbow all the freaking time! Arrrggghhh
Im just learning how to drive manual. May i ask why you go from 4th gear to 6th gear when your pulling into the highway?
Ayyy shout out to Cameron Hill. Love that guy.
were there any dealer Markups when you bought it?
Edit: you end up mentioning it. Thx
Had great luck in Ohio finding dealers with little to no markups.
Lovin the BRZ
I couldn't hear it in your video, but are you experiencing any sort of out of the norm transmission noise with your BRZ?
When I depress the clutch in mine, I occasionally get a metallic rattling noise. It also makes some interesting noises if I'm coasting at 1700-2100 RPM with no throttle input.
I get the exact same noises in my 22 BRZ. Seems like the metallic rattling mainly happens after it’s warmed up.
few things prevent me from purchasing this car. wish it was a lift or hatchback as trunks aren't as practical. also, the final gearing is too short. sure there's passing power in 6th gear as topher mentioned because the car shouldn't be sitting at 3k rpm @ 70mph in 6th. cruising speed on the pa turnpike here in the north-east for example is between 80 & 90mph, and hearing the engine scream at 4k+ rpm (in any car) is fatiguing. veloster n with dct fixes both problems, thing sits around 2k @ 80mph, has a hatch & a turbo. still have respect for the 86, just doesn't work for me as a daily.
Do these have seeled headlights? Or do you have the freedom to upgrade the headlights and highbeam??
Will you be doing a drive in the 400z when it comes out
You mentioned moving the lower bolt of the front knuckle into the top hole and installing a camber bolt in the lower hole. Are you at all concerned about this? Surely the bolt size was chosen for a reason by subaru, is the smaller diameter safe?
