It's just so damn cheap and cowardly of Ubisoft shoehorning their female protagonists the way that they do. If you want your game to have a female protagonist, market the game with her. Don't market the game with the male version and say that it's actually the woman who's canon.

I know that former Ubisoft management forced Alexios in Odyssey but didn't know it also affected Valhalla. But male viking makes more sense.

No, Loki is male. Just because he can change his sex doesn't mean he is gender-fluid. He's a trickster after all. Shape-shifting is one of his many tricks. Heck, he can turn into a horse for crying out loud. That doesn't make him species-fluid. He's still an Jotun (giant). In short, he is what he was born as (a male jotun) no matter what he can shape-shift into.

I went in expecting answers, but I've ended up more confused than before. It's not your fault. I'm sticking to my guns and say that Male Eivor is canon. If I had my way with AC, I would not have the choice to choose gender. Like it always has been until the game that shall not be named came along to present us with the choice between Alexios or Kassandra, and later when Kassandra was the canon choice, what was the point of choosing Alexios then? If Ubisoft wants the player to choose, why not go the AC Syndicate route of a male and female character being separate playable characters. Because the whole situation with Eivor is so confusing to me.
Ktjove is in the game. We saw in the end of the gameplay overview trailer. There was a giant boss stomping Eivor in what looks like Norway, he was called Ktjove the cruel. Seems to fit the bill.

Transcends personality in a way by explaining men have natural female traits and women have natural male traits. These studies coming from a well known psychologist practically cements the theories in my eyes. Very interesting, access the animus has a video going over a theory related to odin in full as well that lines up with this.

Was originally going to get Cyberpunk and buy this next year, but boy Cyberpunk got delayed so i thought ahhh why not lets give it a go!, and I'm so glad i did, this is the best dam Assassins Creed I have ever played the story is so in depth, from everything to upgrading your settlement and interacting with your clan too the well written story telling and the amazing combat mechanics, and also this assassins creed has gone into more detail about the first civilisation (the isu) than all the other games combined!, unbelievable experience have to thank Ubisoft for this game!, GIVE US SOME DLC. :)

I’m glad they’re putting much more effort in explaining the different genders as opposed to a result of “mere animus glitch”, that’s something any 12 yo could come up with. It’s obvious Odyssey’s team cared more about the gameplay standpoint of this choice than the actual lore, but now Valhalla’s got a more capable team of writers who definitely cares more about the lore than Odyssey’s team did and I hope they can bring people’s faith back to AC with their stuff.
I think this is the best explanation for 2 gender options, it’s better then Eivor being a descendant of Loki and can change their appearance at anytime because I don’t think people want to be another Demi god and it’s better then going the easy route and saying Eivor is transgender
technically... the canon is still female Eivor... if you choose "let the animus decide" you will play as female unless you travel to another realm/world/whatever where the spirit inside you (male Eivor) is free... thefore the canon body of the character is 100% female and the fact that she has a male spirit inside of her doesn't matter...
If you are planing to play "Let the Animus decide" you might as well just pick female, cuz you will be playing female for most of the game. you will only be male when Eivor is High.

Say both are canon. Update the game so male Eivor is also shown in the secret cutscene in the modern day story. Explain that Eivor is a human chimera and therefore that is why the Animus has trouble telling apart the DNA. Not a perfect solution I know but that's what I got to solve this somewhat easily.
