How Jimmy Savile used power & fame to abuse children for decades

  • In late 2012, almost a year after his death, new and old reports surfaced that Jimmy Savile, who was an English media personality, had sexually abused hundreds of children throughout his life, with alleged male and female victims, ranging from prepubescent to adult. Savile often came into contact with these victims through his creative projects for the BBC and his charitable work for the National Health Service (NHS). Prior to his death, claims from members of the public whose children had been assaulted in hospitals and elsewhere were dismissed for decades.
This documentary should make us all question our faith in experts, who allowed Saville freedom to assault the helpless in institutions for the vulnerable.
But the truly overwhelming issue of this documentary is the fixation so many people have with fame and celebrity. Jimmy Savile was a malicious, psychopathic arch-manipulator but it takes two to tango and the other criminals in this remarkable story are the, literally, hundreds of people who facilitated his access to patients, children and teenagers, or by whose negligence allowed him to access them. Some even actively encouraged his victims into his arms, and amazingly this includes the police, town councillors, and medical staff. Some were unspeakably naïve, others were cowards or did so wilfully in the hope that Savile's "friendship" would make them seem more important or accrue them some personal advantage.
It shows how credulous and infantile public opinion can be, and how powerless we are when the forces of law and order are hijacked by celebrity. Meanwhile, we should all remember 'If there is something wrong with society then there is something wrong with me.' How often have you turned a blind eye to something which could and should have been reported? We can do more! Don't turn a blind eye, don't ignore this message, please share as much as you can. Daily reminder that he was close to Peter Sutcliffe and visited him in prison on numerous occassions. Sutcliffe himself alluded to an accomplice, and police found two bodies very close to Jimmies home. Two bodies whos genitals and breasts were bitten either off, or badly chewed. There was enough circumstancial evidence to bring Jimmy in for questioning and a dental profile was made which matched him. Why was he not arrested? Because he was supplying children to the royal family, well connected people and businessmen. He was the Epstien before Epstien even breathed air. Worst thing was he used charity as a guise! Even had Maggie Thatcher covering his behind because Cyril Smith, Ted Heath and other horrible buggers were customers of his and as Jimmy always said "If I go down, everyone else will too" (paraphrasing ofc).

I think we have a stereotype about what sexual predators are supposed to look like or behave like. BUT the most effective predators are able to camouflage themselves in the best ways in order to blend in with their backgrounds and feed on their chosen targets...my own Father got me, my brother and his own grandchildren too! I saw so much similarities in his personality between the Sir Saville personality and the happy, successful person my Father was too! When I read my Father's obituary I just wanted to vomit and write a rebuttal telling what I knew to be the TRUTH! My deepest sympathies go out to everyone he hurt.. I was always in awe of those "lucky" kids. Now it's just an indication of his brazenness, he had no fear of being caught at all. And he holidayed with his victims, or shipped them in and out as he saw fit. It's good he's gone, but there's still so much detail that's hidden from us and I suspect the depths he went to won't ever be made public because there's a very clear British wide cover up involved (in hindsight). I just hope that all of the living survivors have managed to have some sort of life.

I think alot of people either don't remember the culture at the time or weren't even born then when they ask questions like "why didn't anyone say anything?"
Sexual abuse was absolutely rife then! Not only institutionally but also in the privacy of homes.
Everyone looks at Savile like this was a lone case, it wasn't, child abuse was going on in hospitals, churches, children's homes, schools, football clubs, Sunday schools, scout groups.....I could go on. We had famous musicians and pop groups taking underage girls back to hotel rooms or tour buses. We had celebrities from all walks of life using the "meat rack" at Kings Cross to pick up underage boys.
No one gave a shit yet everyone in society knew it was going on.
Look at Esther Rantzen as an example. The biggest child advocate of this century, the face of Barnardos and child line yet she said NOTHING about all these famous nonces, not just Savile, because her job at the BBC was more important to her.
The BBC did nothing because Savile was their ratings golden goose, the same as they did nothing about Rolf Harris. When Harris worked for channel 3 or ITV as it was renamed, they did nothing about Harris because they were in competition with the BBC.
No one was going to stop Savile because he made money for people, if he wasn't making millions for charity he was making millions for the BBC on both radio and TV

I don't believe many people considered Savile to be a 'National Treasure' at all. As a kid I found him very creepy and weird, I'm sure lots of kids did. He had no warmth or appealing traits, which given what emerged is hardly surprising. But he was confident and played with interviewers, giving clues which weren't taken up and pursued. So much of what he said would now be treated as red flags now, but I suppose that's not going to happen when much of what he was doing was well known. I've spoken to quite a lot of people about Savile, and not one person had ever liked him, particularly when they were kids. His 'appeal' was manufactured by the BBC and whoever publicised and praised his charity work. Clearly, this isn't just about Savile, no one person, no matter how successful, could wield that amount of power and be given the freedom to do whatever they wanted. He gave broad hints about what would happen to others if he was investigated and exposed. Presumably, this refers to TV executives, politicians, members of the RF, senior police officers, etc. He was one among numerous disgusting creatures mutually facilitating abuse and protecting one another through necessity.

What really blows my mind is how he was able to become a TV presenter in the first place. Granted, he could talk well, but other than that, he didn't even look good or charismatic, let alone likeable. He always looked creepy as hell. He must have smelled like sweat, cigars and alcohol all the time. Really disgusting 🤮. My God, how could anyone let a guy like that on TV? And then he became a so-called national treasure and was knighted by the Queen 🤦‍♂. He was a public figure, so no one can tell me that the BBC and people around him didn't know what he was doing .... FOR DECADES!

He could not rape and sexually abuse so many children, without his entourage being alerted. It's impossible that nobody knew! There are therefore collaborators and participants in his crimes, who knew and who possibly participated in the crimes of this scoundrel. The entourage knows when there is a pedophile lurking! Not only did people know, but the police had to receive complaints from victims. They kept it a secret, just like it does with royalty, politicians, and all the popular predators. All those who participate by their silence are as guilty as the predators. What a world of degenerates!
