This spectacular version of this world famous song, could not have been performed better! One of the few songs Lucy performs that shows sadness and despair. The way she uses her voice and the camera, allows her to portray the true meaning of the song. Just another masterpiece!
I loved every micro expression of her face. She just brought it all in this release. The other thing is the breath you hear that brings the intimate nature of her singing just to you. We are so lucky to have her at this time in the world.
Hi Larry...This one is off the charts! Oh my gosh! Lucy charges this with so much emotion that it flows through my whole body. It is almost unreal. Lucy was born to be on stage. Such a powerful, moving performance. Best of the best!
Waiting patiently for your reaction of this Lucy masterpiece. Great job , you react the same to Lucy as I do. Like you said we're so fortunate to be here in the time she blesses us with her second to none talent.
I have been waiting weeks for this review. Once again you nailed it. I only have one question. How can us mere mortals be so blessed to be allowed to hear this angel sing? WE ARE BLESSED.
Hi Chris glad to see you got around to this your going to fall out of that chair one day. What a great performance by Lucy I beleve she is now untouchable the best female vocalist out there.I watched your reaction to Anne .And she did a strong emotional performance however it was more acting than singing and at the end of the day this is a musical and the song should be sung and I think Lucy did it perfectly as it should be done.personally I would prefer Lucy´s version if I was stuck on an Island.I am still at a loss about you and Lucy not looking at the camera.Lucy plays the camera perfectly she draws you into the song with her, one reactor said she looks right into your soul and when she looks away you just want her to look back at you because you you think she is signing directly to you.Any way Chris great reaction as always only 7 more days to her concert and I am excited already.Stay safe my friend and thanks for your continued support for Lucy.
Yes I am also at a loss about this camera thing Chris talks about from time to time. Lucy's interpretation of the song will determine why she may look away, perhaps looking to the past or she may look to the sky as part of the story telling. It's had nothing to do with shyness, it's acting!
Hello Chris, Lucy has done it again, " I Dreamed A Dream " from Les Mis this cover gives me chills it is just sung so beautiful by Lucy. Lucy is just so amazing & getting better, this cover came out just over 3 weeks ago & has already had over 1 Million Views on RUclips. Take care, Barbara.
Remember, Anne Hathaway is an Oscar-winning actress while Lucy is a professional singer. Anne was in costume, shorn of hair, dying of TB and starvation in her movie version of "I Dreamed a Dream." She spoke, did not sing, the first stanza, as an actress might. Her "performance" has no peer, but the song itself is more beautifully rendered by Lucy. Mark, USA.
You showed once again why you need a seat belt on your chair when reacting to Lucy. Seriously, what in the world could "better than that" even sound like? We'll never know because there will never be a better than that.
Hi Larry. Thanks for supporting Lucy. "Half the USA" will be at her concert the 22nd. Sadly it looks like there are an other of empty seats this time. Manchester and Tokyo were fully booked but not this one despite the promo by one of her fans? (Lucy Thomas - concert promo video made by Anita) Wherever I hear you about awkward eyes she is contemplating/remembering/envisioning: see Hallelujah, The way we were, etc. She is absolutely not camera shy. Having said that, we share the awe and the goosebumps/chicken skin🥰. Did anyone tell you that Tokyo was a big success? That she left "Not a dry eye in the house"? And that there is talk about a Japanese tour?
Chris you DON'T have to pause the video, there's no copyright issues with Lucy's videos. Chris Broom, her mentor/producer creates these masterpieces as a promotional tool, to show the world who this remarkably talented young woman is. There are many reactors who play Lucy's videos all the way through without a single pause and then do a re-run with their comments. Your reaction to this performance is brilliant as usual and it's Great that you've been supporting Lucy on her remarkable journey. What will her voice be like at it's prime in ten years!!!
Always enjoy your reactions to Lucy Chris. There comes a time when words cannot express the awe and appreciation experienced by witnessing Lucy's performance. Just faultless!
Thank you for that reaction. For me, Lucy is the best singer of all time, even before this performance. But what's even more impressive is that she'll be able to repeat the same experience 16 times in a single concert! I've been lucky enough to see her at her 3 biggest concerts, and I can't wait to continue this series! She's stunning, both when she sings and off stage.
I think it's a bit of North of England intonation more than Celtic!🙂,beautifully sung by Lucy,as good as anything she's performed though can't agree it's better than "Unchained melody" or "One moment in time",the comparison with Ann Hatheway's version which is undeniably moving was of course performed within the context of the film, both are wonderful in their own way!,also wouldn't agree that Lucy in her earlier days didn't use the camera as well as she does now!,I have been following her for the last six years & she has in my opinion always known how to perform if front of camera as she has as far as I know had a great interest in drama for a good # of years which shines through in all her performances!,apart from these points I agree with everything you say!😅
Thank you for reacting to another masterpiece by Lucy Thomas. After listening to Lucy, I listened to several performances including Anne Hathaway and Ruthie Henshall. In my opinion, Ruthie over sang the song with too much volume and not enough subtle voice techniques (vibrato, straight tones, etc). In my opinion, Anne overacted and sang very little. For me, the overacting keep the sadness and pathos from affecting me. Lucy is a master of using her eyes to signal different feelings to us such as remembering where one should look away. I cried hearing Lucy sing this. The emotion in her voice, in her expressions, in her eyes tell the story. Anne looked haggard and Lucy does not but, otherwise, I think that Lucy’s acting was superior. As for the singing, Lucy’s only competition is Lucy. I am taking a handkerchief because she is to sing this on stage and I know that she will bring me to tears yet again. Lucy is the best.
Come on Chris, are you honestly saying you wouldn't want to see Lucy's face when singing this on that desert island of yours. Forget the Walkman you need take a portable video player!!!
Anne Hathaway is , indeed, beautiful and a better than average actress. But Lucy is BEYOND beautiful, more like ethereal. I would choose her over Anne any day in the island scenario, both vocally and visually!
Yes, I agree with you therte this is probably the best performances yet, this is perfect rendition feels like dreams are lives on forever more and every action she makes are meaningful as it radiates emotional heartwarm feelings into. Gladly watch this reaction of Chris, thanks.
I have a Walkman. I don't use it anymore but ti do have one. (80+ year old senior citizen) More: Larry, I can tell you were really affected bu this one. Not just goose bumps and hair standing but you did what I do when I really love a song, Mine, along with your nose was running. I go through a lo of tissues when hearing Lucy.
She is so gifted and you are right: this is so, so beautiful. I do follow only three young artists, and Lucy certainly is one of them (Angelina Jordan and Emma Kok are the other two). In about a week time Lucy will have her first full size theatreshow in the Westend (London, UK). And that will be the thirt this year: in March Manchester (UK) and last month in Japan...
Hi, Chris, You must have never watched Lucy perform Babs' "The Way we were". If so, you should. She doesn't look into the camera at all! Regarding Lucy and "I Dreamed a Dream", I didn't care for it at first. So sad. However, after having watched many reactors, including yours, take on it, I am warming up to it. Lucy's beautiful voice cannot be beat. Her vibrato and the rich fullness of her expressive voice across her entire range is World Class. Elegant sadness. Thanks Chris. Kit
She found the most beautiful way to make one feel miserable. Camera shy? Look again at those earlier performances with the idea of contemplating/remembering/envisioning etc. because that's what she is communicating. Nothing awkward if you ask me. Those things on your arm we call kippevel or in crazy new dutch kippenvel, meaning chicken skin.
This is an amazing performance. Very emotional. You seem to have a fixation about Lucy not looking at the camera. It's called acting. It's got nothing to do with being shy or anything like that. Lucy is conveying emotions through where she looks and her other gestures. Very good review but please give this a rest.
Please. If you don't know what to say..why stop the wonderful music...just so you can show your arms. Thats for first time reactors. When it comes to Lucy Thomas i agree with you. She is masterclass and beyond. Her beautiful voice and singinskills are the very top nodge out there. Thank you for reacting to Lucy. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.
It's a question of taste, obviously, but I detested Ann Hathaway's performance. Like most of the songs in that film, the 'emotion' was completely overdone. Here, Lucy starts off reflectively, in tune with the lyrics, brings out the despair as the song moves on and finishes with great sadness. At all times, she is reflecting the words she is singing, which is how emotion SHOULD be used. Bravo, Lucy. Truly beautiful.
Great reaction! I always look forward to your enthusiastic reviews of Lucy! Just like you, Karen Carpenter was my favorite voice until Lucy came along. Lucy's voice is unmatched for clarity, purity, fullness and richness! Please play and react to Lucy's very emotional cover of "I'LL NEVER LOVE AGAIN". - ruclips.net/video/4g1Qpu9XPL8/видео.html I heard a clever word for goosebumps from a female: "GOOSIES". Enjoy, Hopelessly Addicted in Arizona
I disagree with you about the eyes and camera. Her body language and how she plays to the camera emotes perfectly with the meanings behind the songs she sings. Surprised you don’t see that.
I wholeheartedly agree. In my view, Lucy has always been able to use the camera to her advantage and to communicate her emotions. I don’t think anything she does is by happenstance.
I’ve commented this to Chris before. Lucy is a stage actress and is destined to deliver a mind-blowing performance of “Rosie”soon. As a stage actress, she has learned (and I believe also has a natural-born instinctiveness) to “act” with her eye movements , her gaze, her lookaways, her furtive glances, her eyelid closures, etc., as well as with her many-nuanced hand, arm, face, and body movements. With all these things combined with a voice from heaven itself, Lucy is a master story teller, actress, and vocalist, par excellence, bar none! I really like Chris both as a nice, intelligent person and as a fine reactor. I just wish he could understand these things about Lucy. In my opinion, similar to Angelina Jordan, Lucy has NEVER been camera shy, but utilizes the camera, her surroundings, her props, her clothing choices, etc., in each video to her utmost advantage. She is simply a genius!
Hi, John, ive been revisiting some older reactions, and came accross your post, i agree with all your points, i belive that Lucy puts together her covers with the sole intention of delivering the best possible expieriance for her veiwers, every movement, every visual nuance is planed to perfection, a true musical genius. Ian.
You crack me up... in a good way. Your facial reactions and comments are the whole point of watching a reaction as opposed to the original. I have to disagree about Anne though. I was in the minority who didn't think that version of Les Miz was a disaster and actually enjoyed the performances for what they were. I recently watched her clip from the movie. She is acting a part (some say she over did it) and the singing is secondary. She's basically a talented amateur. Her interpretation had her speaking some of the word rather than singing. Outside the context of the entire film there is no world in which I'd choose to watch that again instead of Lucy.
Hi Chris, Have you managed to convinced your dear wife yet, that Lucy can sing a bit. You've said in the past, that your wife is biased towards the established divas but come on we have a musical phenominum in our presence.
Lucy’s voice has evolved into being an instrument. Some of the notes she holds, with perfection, are akin to notes being played by a wind instrument. Love your reactions but I have to ask. Do you receive notifications from Lucy’s channel?
I didn’t quite get which performance you liked better than this one of Lucy, even if you said that her vocal performance was the best one, what I do of course totally agree.. I remember very well your reaction to Lucy’s Hallelujah where you said again something about the way she looks at the camera. Not only I completely disagree with you, sorry man, but I still think the way she interacts with the camera in all her videos is as good as her vocals. Just lovely, in my humble opinion.. Otherwise, good and very passionate reaction, as always, well done.
Way off topic but you may want to check out Jacob Collier's Greenpeace song with Aurora and check her out, on her own too. It's a mashup using A Rock Somewhere (the original album version is also awesome) and her song The Seed. Also, the World O World notated recording session from 2018 was recently released.
Hi Chris. Well this once again shows that this musical phenomenon can sing any genre she chooses. Case in point, from the wonderful Etta James's "At Last" to this emotional rendition of a classic musical piece. Then Whitney's "One Moment in Time" to Andrew Lloyd' Webber's' "Pie Jesu" How many twenty year old female singers can emulate what Lucy has achieved. I think it's a very rare, once in a lifetime occurrence.
I love her singing and own all of her albums so far. This is a very pretty version of the song, but it doesn't convey the angst and utter despair that was the original intent for this song. She's plays to the strengths of songs more when she sang those written for her in the musical "Rosie". I love hearing her voice mature as she grows older and look forward to listening to her for decades to come!
Another great reaction. I know it's a bit unrelated but would love to see you review some Australian hip hop, here's a really great breakup song that would resonate with a lot of people. ruclips.net/video/DOj2Lyce63E/видео.htmlsi=jSdy4e8D-2vu9Mr6. It's a great song if you're interested
I'd like to see 57 year old Ms Henshall on a stage with Lucy Thomas and perform "I dreamt a dream" and then perform "Memory" from "Cats" I know with her power, twenty year old Lucy Thomas would blow Ruthie away.
I prefer Anne. Even with walkman. I'm sorry. I don't want "vocal perfection". I want to have to fight tears. I want to hear a broken Fantine. I did not get that.
@@pedromancenithe3rd With respect, I'm not looking at her face in order to feel the emotion when I'm listening to a song. I am not discounting her vocal abilities either. I heard a beautiful song. I did not hear what this song is meant to convey. And I will not insult you back. I left a comment expressing my opinion. That is all.
@@jstmez You have every right to your opinion. But remember it is only just your opinion. Those things that you say that you did not see and hear in Lucy's performance many other people did experience them in Lucy's performance. Because I believe that no one is better than Lucy Thomas, I recognize that my opinion is biased. As a result of my bias, I may see and hear things that are not there in her performance. However, because of your bias, you may not see or hear things in her performance that are there. Expect that if you express an opinion of Lucy Thomas that is not 100% positive, you will get push back from one of her zealous fans.
@@kennethsorrels8850 Oh, I certainly know. But to be clear, I have no bias against her. I listened to the song, I had no need to try to fight back tears. That song can make me have that feeling. Emma Kok can make me cry everytime I hear her sing Voila and I have no idea what she's even saying. This song should have the same affect on me. I am not saying anybody else should have that feeling. That is me and I know when a performance touches me and when it doesn't.
I am with you on this completely! The best vocalist in the world at her very best. Pure brilliance by Lucy!

Colin, was that a deliberate quote from Les Mis or just coincidence. “At the end of the day” as sung by the factory girls and ladies of the street.

I hope all is well with you. I have been to sick to watch your videos for a while but now Im back.
Oh Lucy isso amazing 🥰
Stay safe my friend
Prayers ❤❤❤
I'm so sorry to hear you haven't been well. You're a strong person. You've got this my friend.
@@larryshair Thank you 💖
How about a colab between Lucy and Dan VaSC! THAT WOULD BE EPIC!
True!!
The new Celine
The accent you hear is Lancashire can be very broad she is a Lancashire lass
Way off topic but you may want to check out Jacob Collier's Greenpeace song with Aurora and check her out, on her own too. It's a mashup using A Rock Somewhere (the original album version is also awesome) and her song The Seed. Also, the World O World notated recording session from 2018 was recently released.
Loved your reaction Larry. Btw, you should react to Kendrick Lamar, id love to see that.🙏
She has not scotland, but "midlands" accent, Larry )) Wigan, sir )
Actually Lucy is from Wigan so the dialect would be described as Northern.
@@pedromancenithe3rd Maybe you are right... I'm not a great specialist. But I worked in Wigan and Birmingham in 1996-97, so, I remember the accent.
@@pedromancenithe3rd I know 1 or 2, bat not englis-speaking. It's very unusual.
Can you react to autobiography by Nicki Minaj 💜
Another great reaction. I know it's a bit unrelated but would love to see you review some Australian hip hop, here's a really great breakup song that would resonate with a lot of people. ruclips.net/video/DOj2Lyce63E/видео.htmlsi=jSdy4e8D-2vu9Mr6. It's a great song if you're interested
Ruthie henshall the best bar none.
Thank you so much for expressing an opinion, but your credibility is undermined by making such a dogmatic comment!
With respect, if you couldn't see the emotion on Lucy face, during that performance, you really need to change your glasses for a strong pair.
Thanks for letting us know, but why bother when you must be aware of the antagonism that your personal opinion will provoke! 🥴
