Carl is the reason I got into Brazilian music 15 years ago. He’s always been a huge proponent of tropicalia.
Nice to see Melenas make an appearance here - was not expecting that. They are great. Also cool to see Ellington at Newport, that was later considered his big comeback. For the music of Brazil, people should check out the musical movement from Minas (called corner club) led by Nascimento, Borges, and Guedes. It is otherworldly

Elite band. AC is a good a songwriter as anyone I’ve ever heard. Kathryn is such a genuinely lovely person.
Easily one of my favourite episodes, but they are one of my favourite bands so I might just be biased!
Mars Audiac Quintet is low-key one of the very best albums ever made. Peak Stereolab in my opinion.

It was Paul Gonsalves taking chorus after chorus on Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue that caused the "riot" at Newport in 1956. It was evidence that the Ellington band was still relevant after all those years.

If a record is low priced, it doesn't mean it's not good. It's because it's something that alot people don't know about. So it's harder to sell.

Pointed Sticks: "Marching Song" is one of the best Power Pop songs of all time. Make sure it's from the "Perfect Youth" album. The one he held up is not their best album.

Like the Brazilian influences on my favourite band. The music down there is a whole other world. Try some Milton Nascimento, Seu Jorge, and Mamonas Assassinas.
King Tubby & Augustus Pablo is an all-time great. Seek-out more Augustus Pablo, you cannot go wrong: East of the River Nile, Valley of Josaphat... Ire
Yeah, Jorge Ben Tropical is a great classic, and he pronounced quite name his name.
Cluster and Eno is an underrated record! Great choice, I think of it as among the best Eno records and doesn't seem to get much love. Great call on the song "Baby," I love the Os Mutantes version, I should check this one out too.

probably one of my top favourite bands. Well I liked Zumpano way way better. I think I still listen to Look What The Rookie Did once or twice a month.
Man, that Zumpano record was awesome! I just remembered it tonight after seeing The 5th Dimension did a song called "Rosecrans Blvd." I somehow held it in my memory that Zumpano did a song called that, and it was the same song! Now, I'm gonna be revisiting the whole "Look What the Rookie Did" album...a classic!
