It makes you wonder how many games we could put in place of Mana and feel this way. A Final Fantasy commercial built like this would certainly create that emotion. This is a beautiful ad and one I can say that was a total surprise they developed but it got me in the feels as well. Looking back on our lives and remembering the magic of these long series and when they hit, thats a great way to provide emotional impact. What a great piece of promotional material for Visions. I certainly hope this game delivers, as a big Secret of Mana fan from the SNES days we really need another solid entry. Thanks Alex
You're welcome! It being an ad aside, I think the reason why it hits hard is because games these days have been a target for lots of negativity, which makes it difficult to tap back into that innocence we had when we first started playing games, when games were just meant to be fun. Incidentally, it's why I started this channel! To remind people that games can be fun again!
While not growing up with the Mana series, this ad still connected with my childhood memories. The time skip from child to adult hit an emotional cord. Being an attorney I often deal with a very stressful and chaotic professional life, JRPGs like the Mana series really help balance things out for me emotionally. I am very grateful for the worlds and stories we get to experience within these titles.
I bonded with my friend Tiziano over Secret of Mana, playing it to the end in co-op mode in 1992. Years later, he's been my best man at my wedding. Now I have kids about to turn into young adults, and he and I still talk daily about our passions and games, even if we are 700 kms apart
As a doubter and having no major connection to The Mana games, I didn't think I would even react to the video But when you see the boy in yellow being so happy, beating the game over the years definitely got me! No shame that I got teary-eyed!
I live in England and one of my best friends bought SoM for the SNES when we were kids. A rare PAL release of a JRPG at the time. He had a multitap too. 3 of us played through SoM and it was such a magical experience. The music!!! We even worked out that spamming Moogle Hammer gave you invincibility frames so used that to beat the final boss. And the hidden face in the ocean! Before the internet, we never heard of anyone else who knew of these things 😊 We're all in our forties now. And we're still all best friends to this day. I cannot wait for VoM!!!
My sons are forty - this beginning back all the years of our different systems and their playing games like Final fantasy. This made me tear up also! So much fun!
This video got me right in the feels. I was on this journey myself, I started with the original and over time collected each game in the series and this felt like I watched my own childhood. Beautiful and nostalgic.
This is indeed one of the greatest video game trailers ever made. It hits you right in the feels. I can remember buying my Super Nintendo in 1993 to play Secret of Mana and 30 years later that remains my favorite game of all time. The trailer makes the best use of nostalgia and Visions of Mana will be a day one purchase for me.
I've never played this series (mostly because I didn't have an SNES as a kid), but that nostalgia of friends gathering around and playing a game together hit me, too. One of these days I'll jump into this series. My kids can be my extra players. ❤️
I have never played a mana game but saw a trailer for Visions and thought it might be something to watch out for. Seeing this trailer despite not being a long time fan of the series I can definitely feel what they were going for. It really makes you go back and remember the good times with video games and friends, regardless of the series.
Alright Square Enix, you got me with your marketing so just take my money 🤣 All this aside though, I remember playing the og "Trials of Mana" on my Windows 99 PC and the game was far ahead of its time (especially the music). Hope we get a release date soon as I am very excited the see a mainline Mana series again after so long.
Brilliant commercial. I definitely got emotional. Would have lost it had they included the subject’s child but instead they stuck with just the main character. Still very very impressive work. Loved it. Great content Alex, thank you!
I mean I dunno bout tearing up, but it was a good advertisement! They definitely know their fans. Kinda reminds me of the DQ Your Story movie & their approach with that series lately. Granted I never was that big into this series, so I suppose it wasn't really made for me. I can always appreciate nods to Nostalgia tho. This was definitely me growing up but with other series like Dragon Quest & such.
Honestly, my first reaction to when i saw the ad was, seiken densetsu doesnt have that nostalgia pull to deserve this ad. BUT, maybe i was too hard on it and this should be an homage to jrpgs as a whole. Not ragging on it, but coming from someone who loves the first 3 entries dearly, i had my heart broken by the mana series too many times to get my hopes up. Even the trial remakes didnt do as much for me as i thought it would even though i played the japanese version of seiken densetsu 3 to death in the super famicom days (and drew so much fan art of it to boot) So the fact that visions ad didnt show any gameplay and counted on nostalgia alone didnt seem to give me confidence that this was a game worthy of our time (or nostagia)
I've only played the first two games on the Collection of Mana for Switch (Adventure and Secret of Mana). They are good but I haven't bothered with playing the third game yet.
Love Mana series, love your content man! But unfortunately I don't like reaction videos universally: it's way more entertaining to see a video about the whole series or a review which can really bring some value. Sorry if I rained on anyone's parade: can't wait for new Mana though!
I'm personally not a fan of reaction videos myself. But I've since come around because it does provide a different flavor to the offerings on the channel than that of the typical "information" type stuff. Variety is the spice of life, so they say! Some people provide flavor to their offerings by erring on the side of controversy, covering things in a negative light and providing that "low point" that creates a form of variety in the content. Strangely enough, this is a type of humanizing that differs from merely spewing out information we need. But I'm of the belief that there's other ways to do that without being negative, so I'm thinking these types of content can do the trick. Also, I'm injecting that humanizing element in informational stuff too, which is a big plus! That said, I'm sorry you don't like this stuff! We'll return to your regularly scheduled programming shortly!
I'd relate to this ad had we have gotten more of these games in the west. Yeah I played them via Emulators, but at that point it just felt like elitism knowing about this series beyond Seiken Densetsu 2 (secret of mana.)
Not familiar with the Mana series, but I did enjoy the trials of mana remake when it came out. I remembered Square Enix put out a similar ad for the FF7 remake though it's not hit as hard as this one.
I think any gamer can relate to this, especially if you were a 90's kid, regardless the game.

I'm sure the reunion in the form of Visions of Mana will be incredible!

It's tapping into our inner child, for sure!
I love nostalgic Japanese ads like this. Good stuff!

It was very emotional watching the ad randomly, it made me feel as if i could cry if i didnt hold it back. Haven't felt this way for an advertisement.
Sometimes it's good to cry
It’s really overwhelming it felt like watching my childhood

Thank you for sharing! It really touched me at an emotional level, which is saying a lot for a promo for a game!
This was a trip back to memory lane. I didn’t have the beat childhood, but games helped get through a lot in life. I almost teared for a second😢.
It almost got you!
@@BacklogBattle yes you did lol
dude when I saw this commercial I thought, "if the game is as good as the damn trailer, its gonna be a hit"
I've never played this series (mostly because I didn't have an SNES as a kid), but that nostalgia of friends gathering around and playing a game together hit me, too. One of these days I'll jump into this series. My kids can be my extra players. ❤️
Man being a kid and having everyone come to ur house to play games was fun i mizs the old days now as an adult its harder to do 😢
Great video Alex, haven't played through the Mana series myself but it still whacked me in the feels 😄
It relates at a high level to anyone who played games when they were young!
I have never played a mana game but saw a trailer for Visions and thought it might be something to watch out for. Secret of mana was the first video game i ever played, i used to talk about it in primary school. So watching this ad it definitely hit emotions.
Alright Square Enix, you got me with your marketing so just take my money 🤣

Damn, who’s cutting the onions here? 🥺😢🥲
cant wait for it to release, it looks promising.
Brilliant commercial. I definitely got emotional. Would have lost it had they included the subject’s child but instead they stuck with just the main character. Still very very impressive work. Loved it. Great content Alex, thank you!
I related with the whole ad. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
They really went for the emotional damage with this one lol. Now that's how you make an ad for a decades-long-running franchise!
Such a good ad!

I appreciate the honesty and taking the time to articulate your feelings :)
Loved SOM since the snes. Now I play co op with my kids. ❤
I've only played the first two games on the Collection of Mana for Switch (Adventure and Secret of Mana). They are good but I haven't bothered with playing the third game yet.
The original Trials of Mana is really good! I think the remake compliments that version!
I related to the feelings the video captured too
Love Mana series, love your content man! But unfortunately I don't like reaction videos universally: it's way more entertaining to see a video about the whole series or a review which can really bring some value.

By West, do you mean Europe? I know that Legend of Mana arrived in the U.S. but not Europe!
