The United States is the ONLY country that I am aware of which had a civil war involving slavery as one of the main issues for the fighting. With proper research of history, you will find that slavery began long ago with the earliest written examples being from Mesopotamia and continuing to be prevalent in early cultures from Africa to the Mediterranean. Not until the middle ages time frame did it become less prevalent but unfortunately continued. The United States is the ONLY country that I am aware of which had a civil war involving slavery as one of the main issues for the fighting. Of this fighting almost 600,000 predominantly white union soldiers were killed, wounded or went missing to initiate freedom for people.
Let us not forget the American Indians who also practiced this.
