- A playthrough of Virgin's 1992 license-based shooter for the Sega Genesis, The Terminator.
The Terminator is easily one of my all-time favorites movies, and I remember feeling pretty badly let down by the NES game for it. The SNES one was okay, but didn't really do much for me. Then I finally had the opportunity to play the Genesis version, and it was completely awesome. I had expected more of the blah gameplay of the other two games, and this one blew me away. The graphics, the controls, and the music especially were all on point. Really, The Terminator theme sounds uber-cool on the Genesis FM (even if it is way too fast).
The levels really appealed to me too. They were straightforward but interesting and all managed to recognizably depict specific scenes and settings from the movie (I love the little intro to the Police Department stage with the car). It also has some neat cinematic scenes with digitized photos to tie it all together. There are a ton of little flourishes in the details as well, like how Kyle has a completely different sprite for the first stage, or how he jumps over trash cans in the second stage instead of just running past them.
The only gripe I really have with it is that it's disappointingly short and easy. I'm glad it's not padded out with mazes and endless hallways that look the exact same, but the movie had other scenes that could've been used to create another stage or two.
Well, I lied. One other gripe: how could they leave out Dr. Silberman? I mean, it could've been fun if Reese had to fling hot coffee in his face or something to escape.
Anyways, fantastic game. I know the CD version has quite a following, but for me, this is where it's at. I mean, when a game finishes with such a ridiculously awesome voice sample, how can it be bad?

lol Reese looks like if he's going to a fishing trip
There were a lot of bad games based on the original Terminator, but not this one. This was super awesome back then, and it's still now one of my favorite Genesis action games.
NintendoComplete
Now you gotta do the sega cd version
NintendoComplete This game looked way too easy and way too short and the ending was inacurate to the film.
I have a lot of fond memories of this game as a pre-teen. Thanks for the killer playthrough.
Yeah I like this one too but it sits in a weird level of quality. It is better than the other games on consoles but it isn't the majesty that is the Sega CD version. Plus this game is terribly short at like 4-5 levels. Otherwise it's a halfway decent game which is saying alot when it comes to Terminator console games.
Once again Genesis does, what Nintendon't.
Excellent game, but such a short one. I remember I once played it at a Toys R Us demo kiosk as a kid. The thing had a 15 or 20 minute time limit on it, and I was able to beat the game in that time. Kiosk reset halfway through the credits.
14:41, "You're terminated, f*****!"-Linda Hamilton.
Dana Long she's coming back in a new movie I heard today.
14:35 has to be the most unceremonious final boss death i’ve ever seen
2:21 makes me laugh so hard for some reason. Imagine being a 40ft tall robot shooting a 5'11 man in the face with a lazer and he just keeps rapidly throwing grenades at you and you die.
Sega CD version blows this game away
Back when the games didn't have micro-transactions, completed games released and no DLC season passes,, times when developers actually cared about the games they made.
and still costed the equivalent of $80 in today's money
In 16 bit days, Terminator games were always better on SEGA :)
The mega Cd version is good just for the soundtrack alone 👍🏻
Johnnyafc _ Maybe I'm just weird, but I much prefer this one's soundtrack. The CD one wasn't bad imo, but i could take it or leave it.
Wh...what? Tallarico did that soundtrack, man! Taking to the Air is a legendary track!
Dorelaxen Hahaha that's probably my issue with it. I'm not such a fan of Tallarico's style. Some of his stuff os pretty good, but I'll take Koshiro any day over him :)
@@NintendoComplete The Sega CD version’s music was perfectly fine on its own, but it was too upbeat and guitar-laden; unlike the steel coldness of Brad Fidel’s synthesizer score for the film (which can be heard in cutscenes, further marking the disparity in tones).
@@NintendoComplete I had never heard the CD/Tallarico stuff and I just gave it a listen... gotta say I'm with you on this one. Not much intrigue to his version ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This game needs a remake BADLY. They could make this into somewhat like a horror game similar to like a Alien Isolation. Find and protect Sarah Connor with a limited amount of weapons and have like a hide and go seek type of feel to it
This game remember me to Alien in genesis and jurassic park, fuck yeah!
I remember watching my brother play this on Master System he rented back in the day. He could barely make it past the first level!
i always liked jumping into the time machine at the last second for a dramatic effect
This game makes me want to walk the streets of Los Angeles at 2 am.
Don't do it
The only reason you have no extra lives or continues is because the game is super short... Now that's just lazy.
And yet if youre not careful you can get trampled on by Arnold AND the cops in this game 😂
Incredible Video Game Walkthrough
I pretty much have your whole channel playing at my house 24/7. Good background noise and fun to watch
Masta Fu Haha that's really awesome, thanks! :D
@@NintendoComplete yeah man this channel is awesome, id love if you did some commentary on some, you seen to know a lot about all these games
@@milhousevanhouten3796 Thanks! I never do voice overs, but do you ever check out the descriptions? I put a lot of effort into doing writeups about the games. I usually include stuff about their importance and relationships to other games, how to play, and reviews of their good and bad points.
My thought it is that I want these videos to be nothing more than a demonstration of the game being played as was intended when it was new (hence no cheats, hacks, etc.). That way, not only do the videos eventually form a "reference library" of sorts, but they also allow people to form their own opinions without me loudly distracting them from the game they've come to watch.
@@NintendoComplete yep, i read them, very good
Im an SNES guy. Sega murdered this title! In a good way! They killed it! SNES destroyed it in a bad way. This is pretty damn cool.
Well...LJN helped kill it on the SNES. Such a damn shame.
Because it's harder on snes?
14:54 this song is pretty good
Bought this game in 92 at toys r us....
This is my favourite Terminator game on Sega Genesis. Only complaint I have with this game is that they made only 4 stages. They should made this game a little longer may be 6-8 stages.
I have this one, good one ! thanx for all the uploads
The game's programmer David Perry would later work on the Sega Genesis version of Disney's Aladdin and form Shiny Entertainment, now known as Double Helix Games, the game's developer Probe Software would later be acquired by Acclaim Entertainment and the game's composer Matt Furniss did a 👍🏼 job arranging the Bradley Fiedel-composed Terminator score.
Dana Long Oh yeah, I always forget he handled Aladdin. I always think of Earthworm Jim when I see Dave Perry's name.
Once again, the Better of the 2 games.
Why Reese is dressed like an doctor? xD
I always thought trenchcoat Reese looked like Elton John.
One of the Best Genesis Games, and one of the Few Good Movie-tie Game.
Description says that the music is too fast
In fact it is not. This game was meant to be played in PAL not NTSC
They released it as an NTSC game in the US. If it plays better at 50hz, it would just mean that nobody bothered to fix it during the conversion.
@@NintendoComplete well nobody bothered to optimise it for NTSC and there is no region lock either
@@mahbodkaramoozian6409 Right. It wasn't often games were released like that in the states. I remember buying MD games as a kid in England though, and so often they were slow with ugly borders because they hadn't bothered to optimize them properly. PAL often got the shaft on that. I remember playing the British Sonic after I'd played the American one. Uck.
The success of The Terminator gave rise to four sequels, the most notable of which being Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The franchise's ⭐️ Arnold Schwarzenegger is also known for being a former bodybuilder, a former Mr. Olympia, a former California governor and a 📦-office ⭐️ who starred in the aforementioned Terminator franchise, Commando, Predator, Pumping Iron, Twins, Kindergarten 👮 and Conan the Barbarian, etc., as well as WWE Hall of Famer, known for his SmackDown encounter with Triple H in November 1999.
Of all the games, the movies, and toys, this is the best game of all.
So im just the only one finding this game hard as hell. I can't even past the second stage the cops keeps getting up and down to shoot me cause they seems immortals..... And i dont know why but i can't make work the cheats codes. And worst of all the is no continue.
great game but that ending doesn't make any sense!
Reese should have died and then you play as Sarah at the end otherwise it doesn't explain why is Reese dead?
Second, "Reese was dead but lived on in the form of her unborn son" That doesn't make sense, his bloodline would live in John Conner but Future Reese is Dead!
Though both Reese's parents are alive and his mother yet to give birth to Reese . If Reese was from the future then there's still the chance of him being born in the altered timeline. Reese would live on in that timeline when he's finally born!
Loved this game also had sega cd version was way BETTER
Now you have to do the Sega CD terminator not exactly the same game nice gameplay
Plus that BADASS Tommy Tallarico soundtrack.
Awful game of a fantastic movie, only good thing about it was the.. I'll be back, at the end credits lol.
14:30 Terminator ports in front of Kyle. Doesn't go for Sarah. Oof.
This terminator version was very good. I liked to play this game. Nes version was horrible piece of shit!
Чужие 3 и терминатор на одной платформе
Ahh! Ahh! Ohh! Ahh! Ahh!
Lol it's like you're the soundtrack to Cruisn USA.
Hemdale?
Adam Demeter They handled the US VHS release too, and produced quite a few famous movies (including Terminator). After they went bust, Orion, their distributor, took over the rights to most of Hemdale's stuff
[Terminator voice] I don't play that game.
Virgin made games? Hmm I guess you learn something new everyday
That ending sucked
Dominic rocco It did play true to the movie though, even down to killing Kyle without giving any sort of explanation. I never understood that. I mean, it's not like he seems to be mortally wounded or anything, but we're just told he's dead. I wonder if a scene was cut that might've explained that.
Sorry but it's such a bad game shame for Sega, this same company made the amazing game RoboCop vs Terminator very playable, but this is so bad in comparison
