Ok, you two cuties...so happy for you getting a new minivan. Thank you, Mary, for the hope regarding driving. I'm so scared but I'm working my way back into it and seeing you drive gives me motivation. God bless.
🚐 😂 Mary I love your aluminum telescoping idea. I am nurse/emt and volunteer for our community fire department on Va eastern shore and all I can think about is the new automatic stretcher loaders. I think you are on to something. Keep pursuing. Just remember make space for groceries. I miss your grocery shopping trips. Ours kids are grown but yes a mini van 🚐 was so helpful. In fact youngest 21 and one of our vehicles is still a min 🚐. You are amazing Mary and Peter we have loved watching you in your walk to Pastoring. You both demonstrate a Christ centered life, thank you. ❤️
Mary, a practical idea for sure with a few obstacles. 1. Weight and ease of pulling out 2. Structural dynamics of existing vehicle chassis design 3. Clearance of ramps from nearby parked vehicles 4. Ramp structural integrity and weight capacity 5. Cost and difficulty to post install 6. Must be a solution to a problem that other solutions have not addressed (like simply folding up the stroller and stuffing into the back storage compartment) 7. Cost to post install vs. stuffing it into the back of van 8. Know that SharkTank especially chases after existing products that have a backlog of orders. 9. Keep thinking and dreaming, something will come up. Current disability designs are costly and substantially change your vehicle, including your suspension, so that's not a path to take. Keep working on noticing some daily issue that no one has properly addressed.
We have always owned mini vans and always will. They are great for not only hauling your family but hauling furniture and other items they would need tied town in a truck. Our current van is named Vanna Red.
Mom of 5 here, mini vans are the BEST!!!!! Not only for children but hauling stuff too!!! I have hauled a piano, couches, and goats in my vans lol! Honda Odyssey’s are the best mini vans in my opinion!🥰🥰😍😍😁😁
I love your comment! My adult daughter detests them, but I think they're great. I never got one, but I wanted the 1st Dodge Caravans in the 80's (?) so bad!!!
Hope all went well and you have and are loving your Odyssey by now. My husband and I bought one in 2007. It was a gently used 2005. We JUST sold it in the fall of 2022! That was the longest we’ve ever kept a vehicle. It served us well. IMO there is no vehicle more convenient than a minivan when you have kids!
I keep a note section on my phone specifically for restaurant notes! Either of new places we've tried, items on a menu that we like or different things like that! That might help Mary remember where to take guests that are in town! As far as the telescopic ramp, I have a wheelchair van with all the necessary modifications to allow myself and my power wheelchair to get into the van and I transfer out of my wheelchair and into the drivers seat to drive. Custom van modifications are NOT cheap but I absolutely LOVE the idea for a changing table/potty in the back for your boys! I've been catching up on some vlogs I've missed and ithe video a couple ones back where you were having port issues, I totally get it! I have a spinal cord injury and have been battling multiple rounds of sepsis for the last 3 years ALL stemming from kidney/uti issues. I JUST came home today from my latest round of sepsis and a 9 day hospital stay which funny enough we were celebrating that it was only 9 days instead of the 6 weeks it was last time round. You're got this mama, you were so right that you need to make sure you're taking care of you so you can take care of those precious little one's you've got! From one chronic queen to another, we're doing the things and we're celebrating the little victories because sometimes that's all we have to celebrate. Yet, it doesn't make them any less important celebrations!!! Much love from Em in Michigan! I've been following you guys for probably the last 8-9 years now!
We have a 2018 Honda Odesey and we adore it. Ours is converted with a power wheelchair ramp in the backend for me Our 3 grandchildren love riding in it, cause they have their own heat/cooling and sound system!
Minivans are the best in rain/snow/cold. You can just put the kids in the car without taking the time to buckle, etc. Then you climb in and close the door and you can do all the organizing, strapping, providing needs without standing out in the rain. I had 3 3 and under and it was amazing to be able to do what needed to be doing without leaving the van.
Got my license when I was 30! Learned how to drive in a mini van with 3 under 3 1/2 in the back seats! My mother and aunts and grandma never learned how to drive! So I earned it honestly lol
I have ptsd with driving from an accident awhile ago. After I had my son it just came natural to get into that car and get him where he needed to go. He is my reason for getting back behind the wheel.
Mary when you do the Maryland "fer" it makes me feel like my Maryland home....you never know where you will end up, but little Maryland accents will bring fellow Marylanders a smile.
As the kids get older, you might consider a car seat or two strapped to the roof rack. Give the kids a better view of outdoors, keep them apart and provide a healthy dose of fresh air. 🙂😂
Yep, they have things already out there that telescope down (have not seen just 2 narrow metal things though, I've seen more substantial/sturdier -- but they do telescope). They have pet adaption things, as well as medical equip adaption things, and my brother in laws truck has the same for construction. His floor of his truck/van was raised a bit so the telescoping part slides right up in with then a huge 'drawer' thing for supplies (flat top would make an ideal changing station; however, the guys used it for eating and picnic food layout, tailgating and such). You can get all sorts of ideas I'm sure online and do your own without paying what manufacturers are selling them for. That's what my brother in law did. He incorporated aspects from different ones - to suit his needs/desires. With Peter's skills, you certainly can come up with a quality set up.
I think the ramp you are describing is the kind that is in the back of a loading moving van....??? Where they pull the ramp out of the back and it falls down onto the street to load the furniture up???
Hi Guys-- Have you thought about a handicap minivan? They come with a telescoping ramp. Some of them have the ramp that telescopes out the back. Much easier to use . They work in any parking space since the ramp comes out the back. Check them out...
im wondering how you all making out with the storms overthere there was a tornado in nash county about ef3 strength about 1 hour east of you guys yesterday.. It is likely you dont have power at the house which is contributing to your absense..
If you take a little bit of the package from the meals you like, or part of a serviette and attach it to the side of the fridge as a reminder of the good meals?
stroller ramp, I know there are dog ramps for elderly dogs that can no longer jump. BUT OH MY GOODNESS, I had a mini van with the girls, this would have helped. But yes for the doors.
Mary: Do you remember the first date we went on after Elijah was born? Me: Now I'm curious if either of you remember your first date, ever. You might have already gotten a van by now, if you meant that you were getting one, but if you get one, you could rig it the way the van dwellers / nomads do, so that way you can have the changing station here, the this over there, something else right here, like that, in the van, if you wanted to do it that way. If that would make it easier to rig it with the changing station that Mary was thinking about. And, there would still be a spot for the other passengers. And then, the bonus would be when you take road trips away from home. You could use the van as that "home away from home," for one night, or two, and save money from hotels, when necessary.
I wouldn't use a ramp in your mini van simply because it's a misuse of wheelchair ramps and you would need to use accessible parking for the ramp to deploy. That said you can get the type of ramp for a mini van that you are talking about for the purposes of allowing a wheelchair to get in (could function as a ramp for a stroller). You would have to look for a repair shop for vehicles with such mobility aids. I suspect the ramps and any repairs come with a hefty price tag as well.
Mary you sound like you are making house plans. For the price you will be quoted why don't yall just build a house with a motor. I never needed a mini van but i use to like looking at them. You get so excited when you are telling something and i love it. I love watching you two . Always brighten my day.
You can really see your roles shifting as your life is evolving right now. It was all made possible by trikafta of course, but Marys health improvement allowed kids to be adopted, and two kids necessitated Peter going back to work (as well as Marys health allowing) and Peter at work and kids necessitated Marys driving (health allowed)...Now I can see Peter having his work identity and reality growing and Mary at home a stay at home mother...kind of evolving into more those traditional roles, although of course Mary involved with making a living on youtube of course as well...interesting to watch this change occur.

Mary is turning into an actual soccer mom! Two children and a mini-van!
Could you two BE any cuter?! Your joy is contagious, thank you for continuing to make time to share moments here from your busy busy life. :)
They make telescoping ramps like that for wheelchairs!
The smiles in this vlog are heartwarming and JOYOUS!
So happy for you...Mary, Peter, Big Baby, and Little Baby! Much love from Nh. ❤
God bless.
Pulling shut a mini van door on a steep slope is pretty hard but love my van so much

So happy for your need of mini van life ( 2 baby’s )😊
Hope they fill it with songs of laughter and praise!
Thanks for the driving encouragement, I needed that as a teeny bit of motivation to actually get my license in the first place.

The van you are talking about sounds a lot like and accessible van meant for wheelchair users haha
And yes they are great vans!
that's what I was thinking! except those ramps are usually on the side
We first got a mini van when we adopted our girls. Even after our girls grew up, I didn't want anything else. They are so roomy and comfortable
Got my license when I was 30! Learned how to drive in a mini van with 3 under 3 1/2 in the back seats! My mother and aunts and grandma never learned how to drive! So I earned it honestly lol

I’m a grandma of a 4 year old and I love my minivan! Don’t think you’d regret it!
Yay! So happy for all of the exciting experiences !
I have ptsd with driving from an accident awhile ago. After I had my son it just came natural to get into that car and get him where he needed to go. He is my reason for getting back behind the wheel.
You need something like a chrysler pacifica crossover. It is low to the ground like a car but it functions like a passenger van.
Mary when you do the Maryland "fer" it makes me feel like my Maryland home....you never know where you will end up, but little Maryland accents will bring fellow Marylanders a smile.

Why a ramp?
Look at wheelchair ramps for van. What you are describing may already be available.
To keep the ramp from taking up room in the back it could just pull out from under the back.
Y’all are sooo so Cute!!!
Mary, you need to make a list on your phone for the foods you would like to get for guests.
they have them for dogs and wheel chairs
