Hi Liesl. We've just come in for tea as a break from our gardening duties and were eager, as ever, to see this week's tutorial. Oddly enough, I was thinking of another black themed painting so this one was particularly welcome. I love the pink and black combination and, as you say, it's not too detailed so I can find time to paint it. Love your ideas Liesl. I'm glad that you can keep coming up with them as I can't. Have a lovely weekend. 🥰

I love this. I think I’m going to paint this for my niece’s birthday. She loves pink. How much border do you recommend leaving for framing? Your paper is 8x8. Thank you
I think your niece will love this, what a special gift to make for her. 🥰 I think you’ll want to have approximately a 1/4th of an inch border to allow for framing…But I would also recommend fitting and sizing it to whatever frame you have since they can vary. If you have trouble finding a square frame, I think this could also work with an 8x10 as well. I wish you the best of success with this painting! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment today, I truly appreciate it. Take care! 💕
What a beautiful combination 😍 I love your way of painting and I love watching you paint your beautiful flowers 😍 Thank you so much for sharing your talent 🙏

You've done it again! Absolutely beautiful painting and your wonderful piano playing to set the artsy mood. Awesome painting Liesl. Really enjoyed watching it come together. The tips you gave help alot. Thank you! Have a fantastic weekend ❤🎨

@@spiritualstars Oh good! Finding a balance between the instruction/talking and relaxing painting time with music can be a trick sometimes! I’m glad you enjoyed this. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for taking the time to watch today! In answer to your question, I have on occasion used watercolor pencils, but I personally prefer to use pan or tube watercolor paints. I hope you have a lovely day my friend. Take care! 🥰
Hi Liesl, another great pieces! But be honest, I never use black on any of my paintings, just for grading😅. The color choice is bold, intense and mysterious 😊! It give me the inspirational motivation to step out my comfort zone of my color choice! Why not try ? Right? I just wondering, how you get rid of the pencil marks on your sketches, I see you use your dark shade to cover them. What about the ones with lighter paint, the pencil marks can’t be covered? Thank you for sharing, really enjoy watching it❤!
I hear ya! I also used to not paint with black except for shading until just a few months ago, (black, and white for that matter, are not usually very popular amongst watercolor artists!) but now that I’ve tried it, I have found I am really enjoying using it on occasion! 😊 It kind of does go against the norm, but I like it enough I think I’ll be doing more pieces like this in the future once in a while! 🥰 As far as pencil lines are concerned, they are a tricky thing! I try to draw VERY lightly with the pencil initially, I usually can hide a few with dark colors, like you observed, and then in the end I erase what I can. I often still have a few lines left showing… I usually can’t hide all of them, but I find that lines that might be leftover are not super noticeable unless I’m looking at the painting up close. 🤷♀️ Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment today, I truly appreciate it. Take care and happy painting! 🥰
Oh yay! I’m so glad you’re going to give this a try! 🥰 I hope you have fun painting it. I appreciate your support very much, Thank you. 💕 Happy painting!
How fun Liesl! You always have some inspiring ideas! The black against the pink is so lovely! Beautiful contrast! Great splatters too! 😊 It even has an elegant look to it! Excellent tutorial! By the way, I noticed you're so close to 40,000 subscribers!!! Hurray and congratulations that your channel keeps growing! It is well deserved! 😊💕

love the 2-color theme. Pink and black are gorgeous! Is M. Graham Ivory Black a granulating color? oh, nicely done with your beautiful music at the end!
Yay! I’m so glad you like this! 👏🥰 Yes, the M. Graham Ivory Black is one of their more granulating colors. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment today, I truly appreciate it. Take care and happy painting!
My black on the right side was just so separated, no gentle flow to it at all. Tried to fix it and ended up with incredibly hard lines . Just have to try it again. Your work is beautiful!
I’m so glad you liked this! It was a fun one to do. Although I didn’t have a particular flower in mind, it does have some similarities to a cosmo. ☺️ Thanks for watching!
lol! 😅 Some people have said I talk too much, so I’m glad you enjoy my teaching style. 😊 Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Take care and happy painting! 💕
Liesl~ I am having a lot of trouble getting my colors to be as light as yours~ At first they seem like they are too light, so I add more color, but then they get too dark~ Any tips as to what I can, or should, do?
That definitely can be a tricky thing! A few things to try or keep in mind, is to first, have a scrap piece of watercolor paper nearby that you can test out your colors on while your mixing them, then you can gauge if it needs more pigment or water before you actually start painting with it. Something else to keep in mind is that the colors tend to look a little different when they are wet compared to when they are dry, (which again that test paper can help with). The other thing I’ll say is that it’s totally ok if yours doesn’t look exactly like mine. 🥰 Your work is unique and special because you created it and the differences just add to that. ❤️ It is difficult to copy a piece exactly, I even have trouble doing that with my own work! So don’t be too hard on yourself! 💕 Hope this helps! Take care my friend.
Without seeing your painting I’m not completely sure why you’re getting water stains, but yes, it could potentially be too much water, or even just an uneven amount of water, (where some areas have more water than others) causing it to dry at an uneven rate. I hope this helps a little bit! It may just take a bit of practice to figure out a good water ratio. I wish you the best of luck in your watercolor painting journey! Take care. ❤️
I just use a mechanical pencil, nothing too special, but one of my favorite things about this pencil is that it comes with a great easer which is important and sometimes hard to find! Here’s a link if you’d like to check it out. Mechanical Pencil amzn.to/3QeXK6K
I’ll keep that idea in mind! 🥰 I have had color bleed a little bit in some of these tutorials, but usually unless it’s really bad I just let it bleed, that’s part of the fun of watercolors I guess. Here’s one video as an example… ruclips.net/video/vK2H88znDP0/видео.htmlsi=p2dtjYpnXfgZ-MZ- (If a bleed is too bad though, sometimes you can use a paper towel or a dry brush to wipe the color out if you need too, then wait for the paint to dry a little bit and try again.) Here’s a video with a mistake in it you might be interested in though, the paint was too dark to take off, so I had to come up with a plan B! You might enjoy it. 🥰 ruclips.net/video/X9s9_aECcCA/видео.htmlsi=EklHHh-6r3K0IWrE Thanks for watching!
I’m so happy to hear you like my work! I truly appreciate you reaching out to me about selling paintings made from my tutorials, the thoughtfulness means a lot to me. ❤️ I am fine with you gifting or giving your work made with these videos but unfortunately I don’t allow people to make a profit from them simply because this is the way I help earn money to provide for my family and I spend many many hours coming up with these ideas and also creating them each week. (My goal in creating these tutorials is to help you learn watercolor techniques in hopes that you will be able to create your own original artwork that you can sell without copyright issues.) I truly hope you understand my position. Again, thank you for having the respect to reach out to me about this. I hope you have a great day!
I’m so sorry to hear that this didn’t turn out well for you. ❤️ I hope you won’t let it get you down though! Sometimes it just takes a bit of practice.
Lovely painting. Though I must say, clean/pristine watercolor palettes make me wonder WHY … cleaning off a wc palette is just throwing good paint away. Such a waste. Start a book just for “palette grey” paintings, start a book of unwasted pajnt watercolor doodles…. So many better things to do than wipe it up and throw it out.
I appreciate your opinion. I like to have a clean pallet in my tutorials so that any color mixing I do is visible and clear for beginner artists. (Just for information sake, I don’t clean off my pallet every time I paint, only when I am recording a tutorial. I use any extra paint to practice with. 😉) Thanks for watching.

My black on the right side was just so separated, no gentle flow to it at all. Tried to fix it and ended up with incredibly hard lines . Just have to try it again. Your work is beautiful!
Hmmm… darn it. I’m sorry that happened. Maybe a different brand would work better? 🤷♀️Have a good day. ❤️
Cool
I’m glad you like it. 🥰 Thanks for watching!
I love this color palette! What is this flower? Cosmos?
I’m so glad you liked this! It was a fun one to do. Although I didn’t have a particular flower in mind, it does have some similarities to a cosmo. ☺️ Thanks for watching!
Always need voice over... hate silent movies! 😂 (Insert sad Charlie Chaplin emoji) Love your art and teaching style! ❤
lol! 😅 Some people have said I talk too much, so I’m glad you enjoy my teaching style. 😊 Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Take care and happy painting! 💕
Liesl~
I am having a lot of trouble getting my colors to be as light as yours~ At first they seem like they are too light, so I add more color, but then they get too dark~
Any tips as to what I can, or should, do?
Grazie mille bellissimo tutorial, una domanda perché sui petali mi rimangono macchie di acqua, troppa acqua?
Without seeing your painting I’m not completely sure why you’re getting water stains, but yes, it could potentially be too much water, or even just an uneven amount of water, (where some areas have more water than others) causing it to dry at an uneven rate. I hope this helps a little bit! It may just take a bit of practice to figure out a good water ratio. I wish you the best of luck in your watercolor painting journey! Take care. ❤️
It was the paper, 100% cotton but not well, I try with other paper and It goes godd😅❤
@@giusisuardi5186 I hope a different paper works better for you! 🤞🥰
Which pencil you use for sketching your drawings
I just use a mechanical pencil, nothing too special, but one of my favorite things about this pencil is that it comes with a great easer which is important and sometimes hard to find! Here’s a link if you’d like to check it out. Mechanical Pencil amzn.to/3QeXK6K
Can you please show us some mistakes, like when one color bleeds into another, and how to fit it?
I’ll keep that idea in mind! 🥰 I have had color bleed a little bit in some of these tutorials, but usually unless it’s really bad I just let it bleed, that’s part of the fun of watercolors I guess. Here’s one video as an example… ruclips.net/video/vK2H88znDP0/видео.htmlsi=p2dtjYpnXfgZ-MZ-
(If a bleed is too bad though, sometimes you can use a paper towel or a dry brush to wipe the color out if you need too, then wait for the paint to dry a little bit and try again.)
Here’s a video with a mistake in it you might be interested in though, the paint was too dark to take off, so I had to come up with a plan B! You might enjoy it. 🥰

I’m new in watercolor on u tube , can I sell my painting from your tutorial if it turns out well for me ?
Tried it, mine went straight into the trash can.
