  • Achara & Kristen watched the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film from 1990 for the very first time. Watch their minds were blown at how awesome it was!
    Fun fact, Pat E. Johnson was the choreographer for this film. He's worked on a lot of classics such as the films responsible for Cobra Kai, The Karate Kid, The Karate Kid Part II and The Karate Kid Part III. He did Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Next Karate Kid, Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat Annihilation. He was a coordinator on Punisher: War Zone, Batman & Robin and Battle Creek Brawl. And he was a fight coordinator on Brandon Lee and Dolph Lundgren's Showndown in Little Tokyo. And he did stunts in the classic Enter the Dragon.

The tech and skill that went into this is incredible. The Jim Henson Company went above and beyond for the Turtle movies.

    The actor that portrayed Raphael had a cameo as the passenger (going to La Guardia) in the cab that Raph jumps over. The one that portrays Michelangelo was the pizza delivery guy who couldn’t find the place. The one who portrayed Donatello was the foot soldier that slapped April in the subway and the one who portrays Leonardo was a gang member in the warehouse during Casey’s fight with Tatsu. 9:49 no it’s not their kid. April said “your father” meaning he’s yours you deal with him and his dad meant his wife at home. 19:45 the story of the turtles is Splinter’s master and Shredder were competitors back in Japan. 23:07 he was of the mind if he couldn’t have her then no one could have her. 25:22 especially with the way the masks were. They had animatronics in the heads to move the mouth and eyes. Earlier when Casey knocked Raph in the trash can it crushed the animatronics in the head smashing it into the stunt doubles face breaking his nose. If you watch carefully when he gets out of the can you briefly see him grabbing his nose. Hope you’ll at least do the second one. The third one is ok but feels like they just threw something together. An interesting story about the turtles is that the ooze that created them is the same ooze that caused Matt Murdoch (Daredevil) to lose his sight. They even say it’s from the same accident. The soundtrack from the first two movies are really good.

      @jebVlogs556 Год назад +7

      @Bidwell13 I'm glad you mentioned this in detail: alot of viewers would've missed all of these scenes. The turtles are "Shinobi" tanking terrapins 🐢 with Leo/Raph being co-leaders(Leo is the one with blue)Michael orange/Raph with red/Donatello with purple. They all according to the comics have the same skill levels with their own individual weapons: however, some of them took their training further. Like Donatello, he mastered the "Bo staff" but there's a lot of different versions and he's skilled in all of them,every scene he's using his regular staff however,if the watch carefully it's the different techniques he utilizes with other versions of you look those up(Same with Ralph/Mike and Leo respectively)
      Mike basically is the heart of the group in that he doesn't want them to always be so serious no matter what the problem or situation is have fun,remember to enjoy and smile. Donny is the brains, he builds the turtle van they use later(in the Michael Bay movies) but he helps them navigate through the sewers, and fixes things not always in the same manner but he does try when others try it or given up. Raph he's got a great heart,so anger issues cause he sees things way different than Leo and his ideas doesn't get a second chance(however) when it's time to step up in Leo's absence Raph has no problem getting things done 👍. Leo is by the book,majority of the time however he does learn to have fun even in serious situations,or takes a step back reflect on things that could've been done differently even if it wasn't his ideas try it anyways give someone else a shot .
      You mentioned about the ooze, yes it's the same one that blinded Daredevil, but also helped heightened other senses.
      You remember the woman Elektra? She studied but didn't master the secret of time and healing "Kimuiguri" Splinter has mastered it.. it's with deep meditation can one achieve this feat. He knows about chi energy and the chakra networks
      Venus,the female turtle learns how to control chi energy with splinter and teaches the turtles how to use it too..
      On to Oroku Saki..
      He's a master in every ninja skill,weapon and technique,even horse back riding so was Hamato Yoshi..
      The armor Shedder wears is known as the "Kabuto armor" been in the foot-clan for centuries and the helmet was made from the weapons of fallen leaders of clans..
      I don't know why they deleted a scene with Shedder in the "Kabuto sitting stance" literally blocking,attacking and disarming the foot solider who used different weapons facing him(it's about 1-2 minutes long) but it shows you the foot soldiers and the turtles are miles from Defeating Shedder if he's this great while just sitting down..
      This scene would be placed,right after when you see Shedder giving one the teens a foot clan head band Infront of everyone in the underground warehouse..
      You only see other teens/Foot solider kinda limbing with scars on their bodies,that they should be proud of wearing those battle scars cause they survived against the Shedder and he going 100% fighting against each of them..
      Kevin Clash voices Splinter is also a puppeteer through.. you guessed it "Jim Henson Productions" yes these movies where made through Jim Henson studios..

      I never out of any of the comic's I read were it said the ooz that created the turtles was the same that blinded Matt Murdock Daredevil. The ooz was said to transform any animal if they were near a human into a human hybrid and opposite for a human into the last animal or insect they were near last that's how it was told in the comic book and cartoons so whoever told you that ether never read the comics or if someone wrote that into a comic sure didn't read up on the effects of the ooz because if it just made Matt blind it would've made Splinter&the turtles just blind too unless it has different effects on animals & reptiles?

    • @bidwell13
      @bidwell13 Год назад +1

      @@DJ-mk5ln Here’s part of an article that discusses that. In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 (1984), the Turtles’ ninja master Splinter recalls how he first met his mutant sons. According to the giant rat, after immigrating to New York with his master Hamato Yoshi, Splinter found himself alone on the streets. One day, while rummaging through some garbage for food, Splinter saw an old blind man cross the street and walk into the pathway of a truck. Splinter then witnessed young Matt Murdock (referred to in the indie comic book as “a young man”) push the old man to safety but get struck by one of the canisters on the truck.
      Unnoticed by everyone except Splinter, the canister bounced on the ground and hit a glass jar carried by a young boy. The jar shattered, freeing four baby turtles and covering them with the “glowing ooze.” Splinter himself was exposed to the ooze when he decided to save the four turtles by placing them in a coffee can (indicating he must have been pretty large even before his transformation). The turtles and the rat continued to mutate in the sewers over the next few days, becoming intelligent humanoid creatures.

    Spring 1990; you had to be there. This was an example of a movie based on a trend coming out exactly the right time, and being close enough to the source to be well-received. The brand had just reached the level of mass appeal with two different popular video games and expanded toy line. This being a live action film involving costumes and puppeteering was intriguing alone. Even with elements that were unlike what was shown in the cartoon - darker; a different kind of April O'Neill; no Rocksteady and Be-Bop or Krang - it all worked.

      Golden Harvest really killed it. This movie had no business being as good as it is. As you said, it managed to take the amusing-but-shallow fun of the cartoon and mix it with the more emotionally-resonant but extremely-violent and -kid-unfriendly themes of the original comic, which was, for those who don't know, written as a direct parody of the "Daredevil" comics (eg. Daredevil fights the Hand, the Turtles fight the Foot, etc. Even the container of ooze that first mutated the Turtles only ended-up in the sewers after bouncing-off Matt Murdock's face and starting his hero's journey. One might argue that the success of TMNT's parody had something to do with the later creation of a similarly-satirical character in Deadpool).
      One could possibly make the case that this was one of the first Pixar-style "family" movies, where the primary audience is kids but there's still a full movie for adults to enjoy (as distinct from kids' movies that may have had a sprinkling of "adult" jokes, which is a genre with a longer pedigree).

    This movie will always be a part of me...
    I was just a little kid when I first started collecting turtle stuff, Comics, figures, and trade cards, as well as many other things.. I remember one day I came home to find that my mother had thrown out every action figure and card I had, as well as most of my comics.. She replaced them with a phone and a fish tank.. She said I was getting too old for kid toys, and that I would grow out of them any way.. I was about 9... So when the movie was released I was the first one there on the first day it was released to theaters.. I collected some of the figures later on, but I never had a collection that was even close to my first.. I have almost every cartoon movie made on tape, several copies of all three live action movies, and this one on DVD... I never grew out of the turtles, and I know I never will.. I know all three movies word for word... When every one grows up, a part of them, a big part dies, and we forget what we loved so much as children.. Our Imagination dies, and an adult is born.. I simply refuse to let my heros go.. While the years pass and the turtles are forgotten, they will forever be a reminder to me of the times I could spend hours on end with nothing but myself and my action figures that came to life right in front of me with nothing more than my imagination....

    I don't quite remember all the specifics, but I do know that for each Turtle they had at least three costumes, mainly the different heads. One of course had all the animatronics in them, controlled by 2-3 puppeteers for each turtle. Then they made like two or three other heads for them for static facial expressions, like gritting their teeth or just a resting face so when they film the wide shots and the fighting action, the actors in the costumes wouldn't have to fight in the much heavier animatronic heads.

    This movie brings back so many wonderful memories. I was 6 the day this came out. There were about 20 of us a few babysitters etc. We loved it and my TMNT obsessed began. Then we had an epic slumber party and ate pizza and played Nintendo all night. Pure nostalgia. Thanks for a great reaction and conjuring up such a great memory. 🖤

    This is definetly my favourite childhood movie. Me and my brothers watched it so many times as kids. I also watched this movie as an adult and still like it and think it's a great movie. Everything is great about it, the story, the fight scenes, character develpment, the comedy and the music is all spot on. Was really excited when the new TMNT came out (2014), and I and I think along with many fans of the original 1990 movie was very disappointed with the 2014 adaption. Nothing will ever beat the original 1990 TMNT movie.

    This movie deserves more respect nickelodeon does not care about this movie,
    over the years for the DVDs and so forth no special features no behind-the-scenes, commentary none of that stuff. This TMNT 1990 is a classic.

    17:06 - The studio had them add in that "he'll be alright" line, because the original plan was to have Tatsu actually kill Shinsho, but they thought that was a bit too dark.

    I've watched this movie hundreds of times if not more since I was a little kid i mean this movie came out when I was 4 and my big bro who was massively into it as I was and it took me to my early 20's to catch a clearly adult joke in it. The line when they go back to the NYC and Donny says Casey is claustrophobic, and casey says something along the lines of "I never even looked at a man before" makes me laugh so hard when i see it as an adult because i missed it so many times as a kid and teen.
