The cover is apparently a Black Mirror. Like the one John Dee used for his magical evocations, and apparently Dee had brought from America. The mirror had been made by Aztecs.

fan for 30 yrs now; ahead of there time then, ahead of their time now, Coil was/is the best at expressing the edge of consciousness that is everywhere at once across space and time

Timeless, as it were.
Greatest ( I even feel reluctant to call them a ´band` ) sounds ever assembled by a couple of human beings . Might sound pompous but that is what it is to me , this is far from being ´music ` only ... so rich in conveying ideas, concepts - the references which open a window to so many equally enriching worlds .
I feel honoured to have met both Jhonn and Sleazy in the same plane of existence .
I met band members, too. Gentle and funny guys.
What the most listeners or "new fans" maybe not know, that COIL were more than Peter Christopherson and Geoff Rushton. There were even other members who brought particularly important sounds and impulses. For this album Drew McDowell was the guy who bring this dronesound with Moog- synthesizers. He did rare live gigs of Time Machines in last few years.
yall are both lucky. They did seem like peace-loving, real people.
@@HerrTelef I didn´t know Drew did that . Fairplay though , just like Thighpaulsandra his contributions were waaay past the odd arrangement , or random guest feature , like , say , Marc Almond or Gavin Friday , Rose McDowell etc, etc .

I genuinely can't believe it's been 22 years since I first heard this. It does indeed cause 'temporal timeslips'
By far my fave Coil release... this album is an excellent accompaniment to reading/studying. Puts me in a trance-like state where all distractions melt away and I can focus on the stuff that matters. Thank you, Sleazy and John.

A thousand years from now, this will be celebrated. it will never be listened to in terms of millions of listeners but there will be a group of people, much more than there is now, who are wholly wrapped around the Coil. It is a pagan rite of passage already, this, Moonsmilk, Constant Shallowness, Black Light District, Astral Disaster, The Remote Viewer and the two Musick to Play in the Dark - Coil's 'Moon Phase' will never die out. That light will flicker for eternity...and then some...
a thousand years from now the only copies of this will be reappropriated into life saving medical devices. Maybe higher bannisters.

@@suncity22001 oh, then you've got the names. Ape of Naples will be like pop music if you have the true edge--maybe the Unnatural History sets. One of my favorites was a youtube find, the Love's Secret Domain Demos... I like demo albums a lot. Tom Waits Alice Demos is up there with that.
Agree. The Remote Viewer and Musick to Play in the Dark Vol. 2 are close but they don't reach Moon's Milk (In Four Phases) and this.

This scared me on a trip, I couldn't listen and switched on Shpongle and Terry Riley, in the second trip, I still listened and I really liked it.
well, it's brave you tried it! I can just go to that place in my mind, when things feel so unsettling and like they are having more reactions on you than you thought possible... I guess it's still fun to think about, but not at the time!

Really good white noise to be honest. I'm not sure if I would classify it as music, at least in a traditional sense, but I'm glad I kept an open mind and tried it out, anyway. I'm really glad this exists, I've been looking for something that deliberately puts you in a trance or is designed to help you focus and lose track of time, and this is excellent for that.
Maybe check out Thomas Koner, Elaine Radigue, La Monte Young, should lead you down the rabbit hole. Aeolian harps might be my favorite.
