    I'm using same configuration - Mares soft backplate, diving with Mares Kevlar Dry suit. What pockets do you use as weight pockets and how do you secure them?

      I typically on use the Soft Plate for warm tropical diving. With this being said, I can usually use a 3mm shorty without any weights, and still maintain neutral buoyancy with ease. For diving locally in the summer time, I will either wear a full 3mm or a full 5mm, and to add weights without actually adding weights, I will use a steel 100 instead of a standard aluminum 80, which still allows me to swim the system up without the need of having any ditch-able weights. Occasionally I will add trim pouches to the cylinder straps if needed. These weights are non ditch-able, so having a balanced rig still allows me to swim the system up from any depth. You can see my travel rig here in this video. ruclips.net/video/dQe2zQUfjZc/видео.html

    Could you do a review of the technology shorts

      If you are referring to the Tec Shorts that Mares or Apex makes, I will be happy to make a video on them. Unfortunately, I don't have any in stock to review. As soon as we get some in, I will put it on the list to produce a video.

    I bought the mares wing and attach it to back plate. The flathead bolts not able to tighten, is that normal?

      Hello Robby Natividad, not sure why you would be having trouble with the bolts not mating together. We usually use two flat head screw drivers to seat them together. See if that helps you out.

      @@LakeHickoryScuba what i did. I added an webbing to compensate the space and to tighten the flathead bolts. I will be using my wing for the first time today. Thanks for the reply sir

    Quick question. Are soft backplates not standard primarily due to durability? I primarily cold water dive but I'm trying to decide between alu or soft for travel.

      Most divers tend to choose the Aluminum Plate over the Soft Plate for travel, as they tend to be more versatile with different cylinders. I personally love my Soft Plate though.

      @@LakeHickoryScuba When you travel, do you then bolt a single tank adapter on it to add rigidity, or do you do without?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  4 года назад +1

      Thanks to the design of the XR wings, single tank adapters are unnecessary, so I personally do not use them.

    Hey, any reason why you do right hand release for waist belt? Thanks.

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  6 лет назад

      Great questions and it just depends on the manufacture and how they design their system. You can run it on either the left or right side. I don't typically wear a weight belt, so there is no issue of confusion in regards to that.

    • @t3n0r2009
      @t3n0r2009 6 лет назад +1

      Ah makes sense. I know on my belt the logo would be upside down (also mares). What do you use for weights instead of a belt?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  6 лет назад +1

      Typically I will dive a completely balanced rig depending on the exposure suit that I wear. This way regardless of depth, I can always swim the rig up. In the rare occasions I would need weight, I would then use 2 small Mares weight pouches attached to my tank cam straps, think of them as trim pouches. If I ever needed more than say 10 lbs, then of course, I would switch to a steel plate instead of the soft plate. Unless I am in a traditional jacket or back inflate system, which I use while teaching basic open water courses, then I will use ditch-able weights, or a weight belt. And you are correct, with this system, the logo on the belt buckle would be upside down if it was switched to the opposite side.
