Haven't heard of it. Let me look it up. I think a cracked mirror has a psychological pull because of the million times we have heard grandparents say how bad of an omen it is. Not that we believe in it but somehow when there is a cracked mirror at home I subconsciously get a nagging feeling. 😀

During my life in the United States for the past 42 years, I never came across a neat, clean, and organized kitchen (in Indian homes), other than yours (standards close to my kitchen). My home administration and kitchen experience helped me become a volunteer Cafeteria Committee Member in the main cafeteria of the CIA headquarters. [In fact, I do not permit any of my guests to enter my kitchen because of lack of personal/home hygiene. I noticed that some of them, particularly female guests, wanted to wash their hands in the kitchen sink. So, I directed them to the powder room. I also noted that one of my friends washing his hands in the kitchen sinks and spitting in the sink.] It seemed that your kitchen hood (exhaust fan) is installed a little bit high which would prevent sucking all the odor during the cooking. Usually, the thumb of rule, while installing a kitchen hood is, to install it 27 to 35 inches from the top of the cook top or stove. Perhaps your builder's installer did not know of this distance limit. If commercial-type kitchen hoods with a minimum speed of 1,500 cfm are installed, such exhaust systems would suck all the odor, and they are quiet, too, because the motor is installed outside the kitchen wall. The built-in filter on the kitchen hood is not good for our (Kerala) cooking because of the build-up of grease (cooking oil) on the filter, and it is hard to clean them, even if they are washed in a dish washer or by any other means, using the cleaners available in the stores. Given the reason, I replaced a similar kitchen hood with a simple stainless steel kitchen hood with two fans (without filter) with a speed of 900 cfm and two oil collecting bins on top of the hood. This is made by a Chinese company for Asian cooking. The stainless steel panels and fans can be taken out for thorough cleaning. Many Malayalees, despite owing beautiful/large homes, cook food in their garages due to odor in kitchen/entire home while cooking. Recently, I heard that a couple in Dallas suburb converted their garage into an air-conditioned kitchen. Some builders would install additional doors to close the kitchen. I did that in my Herndon, Virginia, home. Regardless of the above, the cooking odor would spread into other pars of the home through the air-conditioner's return air vents. Given the reason, after cooking, I boil a few cloves and cardamom (or coffee powder or lime cut into pieces) by turning off the fan of the hood, so that the smell from this would spread in the home. I also carry the pot with steam to family room and rooms in first floor. I also keep the doors and windows, even during the winter, for fresh air. Of late, in Houston area, a few builders are constructing a "SPICY KITCHEN" with powerful kitchen hood and doors, so that the odor would not escape from this kitchen to other parts of the home.
Thank you Parvathi. Go ahead and give it a try. There is so learning curve when it comes to painting but practicing is the only way to over come that. I have committed many many painting mistakes since I started on 2004 😆

I use either flat or matte. Satin has too much shine so will magnify any imperfections (learned it the hard way after painting with it a few times). Matte is better to wipe off stains. Yes I use a roller. Maybe I think I should post a video of what I use to paint.
