      @@MirandaMills Anne's a strong, skilled, and witty writer, who definitely should have more recognition. You might like a couple of other Anne-focused books - Winifred Gerin wrote biographies of all the Bronte siblings, but started with Anne, and was among the very first to look at Anne individually and as a person who's been under-rated.
      Edward Chitham has also written extensively about the Brontes - his biographies of Emily and Anne go hand in hand, much as the sisters themselves do. I met him at a Bronte conference in Scarborough once, and he said during his presentation that "Anne was his Bronte." He also has an intelligently and sympathetically annotated edition of Anne's poems, and Emily's as well.
      Elizabeth Langland also wrote an Anne study, "Anne Bronte: The Other One", which dives deep into Anne's work and methods as an author.
      Harold Orel has a wonderful collection of interviews and observations about the Brontes in a charming, hard-to-find book, "The Brontes Inteviews and Recollections". It includes a lovely, lovely interview with an older Martha Brown, who says wonderful things about Anne.

    I can't wait to see your video about Haworth. I just adore the Parsonage. Have you changed your mind about Wuthering Heights? You have a good number of editions. Agnes Grey was a wonderful read. Have you read Emily's Ghost by chance? I enjoyed it.

      No, haven’t changed my mind - it’s still not my favourite Brontë by far, but the Brontës mean a lot to me especially now I’m living in Yorkshire! Xxx

    This video was such a treat as I love books about the Brontes. I treasure the Bronte Folio Society set I bought back in the 90's that is covered with gorgeous green moiré silk. I'm so happy you were able to recently visit the Parsonage Museum. I saw it ages ago but would love to go back there. I remember seeing one of Charlotte's dresses displayed on a mannequin and being struck by how petite she must have been to be able to wear such a tiny dress!

    • @MirandaMills
      @MirandaMills  3 года назад +1

      I remember those Folio editions from my childhood (my Dad still has them on his shelves!). It was very moving to see their clothing and accessories at the parsonage. Charlotte was so tiny!

I've been given the special edition of Jane Eyre that you recently reviewed as a gift and would love the edition of Sargasso Sea that you showed us, where can i get it from ? who was the publisher ?

    I’ve never hit play so fast on a RUclips video before! This is a fabulous collection of books- I do own or at least read quite a few of those but you certainly hold the crown for Brontë literature. One not on your list, and I read last year was The Case of the Missing Brontë by Robert Bernard. It’s a mystery involving a supposed second novel from Emily Brontë. I quite enjoyed it. Just on a side note- I had my second covid vaccination a few days ago and while my reaction to my first wasn’t as bad as I think yours was, I did feel pretty awful. But I’m happy to report my second has been much easier- just a bit of a sore arm. So fingers crossed your second one will be equally kind to you also xx

      I’m so pleased to hear that, thank you! I’ll have to look out for The Case of the Missing Brontë- that sounds like fun. It’s a relief to hear your second vaccine was a lot less taxing; I’m getting my second one this month & hoping it’s a lot easier! Xxx

    Wonderful selection. Like you I feel The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is very underrated. I’d like to add a novel I think you’d love: Daphne by Justine Picardie, about Du Maurier’s visit to the Parsonage. Picardie wrote a great bio of Chanel, and a new one on Dior and is editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar. This is a great atmospheric read.

    Thank you for this wonderful video!
    Luminous Isle by Eliot Bliss (that I mentioned in my other comment) also influenced the Wide Sargasso Sea. "Calderaro, whose research on Bliss has almost single-handedly saved her from oblivion, points out that not only did the two writers exchange feedback on each other’s work, but that Rhys read a revised version of Luminous Isle shortly before beginning work on Wide Sargasso Sea. The openings of both novels feature lush, sensuous, and sinister evocations of the Jamaican natural world." Luminous Isle, just like Saraband, are sadly out of print, but old Virago Modern Classics are still floating around.

    An interesting selection, I've added a few to my wishlist. I have a lovely book from the 1980s by Brian Wilks called The Illustrated Brontes of Haworth. It gives a summary of their lives including some poetry and then moves onto chapters on each of their novels and photos and illustrations of places & people that their books may have been based on. Really interesting.

    If you are interested in really lovely versions of the Bronte's books Miranda, there is a VERY beautiful edition of Wuthering Heights called ..... Emily Bronte The Annotated Wuthering Heights Edited by Janet Gezari. It is filled with very informative annotations ( which thankfully occur on the same page as the text they are referencing ), many beautiful illustrations/pictures relating to both the story and it's influences, historical facts about the area and time period, a very interesting introductory essay about Emily, and Charlotte's biographical notice of Emily and editorial text on Wuthering Heights. A wonderful edition, which is quite weighty and really only for home use.
