Thanks mate. Never serviced my bike before. This was really helpful.
Looks like the previous bloke never serviced it either.
Could have slowed down a bit when putting the top bearing back on as I couldnt work out at first what way up to put it. Should have layed them down in a special order. Lesson learned.
If I took the bottom bearing out and cleaned it but when I spin it can hear crunching does it mean I need new bearings?
I serviced it because its clicking, theres no play in the steering though or crunching when I turn the bars, just clicking when I ride downhill.

Rees, I was looking at my fork yesterday, and it appears that I have the same headset type. Is that an "integrated" headset, where the surface that the bearing rides on is built into the frame and not part of a removable "cup?" If anyone has the same type, please respond as I ordered a newsboy frame from the company, Retrotec, and I plan on moving all my old parts to the new frame.

old comment and you've likely sorted it out, but I saw no one replied. He has a zero stack headset (ZS) where the bearing cup sits inside the frame. There's an External Cup headset (EC) where the bearing cup is situated outside of the frame. Both of these have to be pressed into the frame. An Integrated headset (IS) is where the cups are molded into the frame. you would just grease the bearing and drop it into the frame.

@@jojotherider1977 JoJo, thank you. The Retrotec frame is being bent and welded at this very time. I decided to order a Wolf Tooth ZS headset in blue instead of using the old, IS bearing from my old bike. I advised Curtis from Retrotec, and he will build the head tube accordingly. Thanks for following up. The Retrotec frame in the newsboy style (called "Classic" on the Retrotec website), is a steel alternative to the costly Merlin Newsboy frame, which is out of my budget.
