Waste oil heat exchanger gone wrong

  • Just showing the basic setup of my way I intend to get hot water. A tiny leak in my hodge podge heat exchanger prevented the oil from getting to boil in order to sustain itself. Having tried the smaller burner you see here, using the setup for a previous heat exchanger couldn't work either as no heat really getting to the pipe work to do any good. I really want to use the taller burner it would be much more efficient but tried it this way to see how bad it would be because it doesn't matter if the pipe work leaks a bit as long as its not directly in the oil. I am still going to give it further thought and try changing the blocks differently to direct the heat through the pipe instead of all over the shop as it is at the moment :) Maybe lie it on its side? We'll see :)

Right on, mini boiler! I'm watching to see how the stainless coil works for you.

Cheers, yeh it's a nice little unit when it works. I've found a fitting for the oblong heat exchanger so I am going to film that tomorrow. I know it will work but never tried it with a tank so it will be interesting to see how long it takes to warm up. Got me thermometer ready at hand too, not those digital infrared things, a mercury one for the weather. We shall see?
