The Golf 7 is a 2.0 powerhouse, highly acclaimed by What Car, Auto Express, AutoCar and of-course Chris Evans the new host of UK Top Gear. Unlike the 7 Gti - the Golf R is not a Golf GTI - infact, far from it in so many ways.
They all say it's a brilliant and award winning VW hatchback.
Since the introduction of the MK7 things have stepped up for VW Performance Golfs, with this being an oustanding example just ahead of the GTI 35 Edition which is also epic.

This is the first of your videos I've watched. Besides the content (as you said who doesn't like this car??) I think your production quality is great. I love the transitions and voice overs and they are very well done. Really really nice job

I have the golf R in manual and u have to agree I can't find anything negative. you can also go to stage one which takes it to 386Bhp for an extra £500. only negative for me is maybe the exhaust system being louder in race mode. however it seems louder in the automatics.

Great vid - and it is a great machine as well, I love mine (canadian version also with no arm rest)
But as for a fault, I find the HVAC control knobs to be extremely cheap feeling.

also, you do get the arm rest in America, the issue is that in America the arm rest doesn't lift up and can't store anything inside it, its a fixed item. But it's definitely present.

My understanding is you need to check the dealer unlocks it for you for some reason in the States. In Canada we seem to get the same treatment on this as you in the U.K., i.e. it's present and ready when delivered.
I would imagine that the larger is38 turbo may have a bit more lag than the 20

Thru my local dealer. I was going to go with NationwideVehicleContracts who have been pretty good in the past, but the dealer came through and gave a great deal. Means I have a trade-in at the end of the contract.

Yeah, PCP. Local VW dealer was great. Test drove it twice. Even had it overnight.

In America the arm rest is there, it just doesn't open (without a quick modification).

Save up and buy a used one. You won't lose much in a year once they hit 36 months old

We did get the armrest in the US, they were just locked shut lol An easy fix though. We also don't get those nice led tails here although I picked up a pair and recommend anybody else does as well they look way better

Gary Sandhu Not at all, extremely easy install. Although to get full euro function an addition wiring harness and vagcom coding is needed.
With the relatively low running costs on an R, is there any point getting a GTI? Surely you'd either go for economy option of GTD or the full fat option of the R
The torque comes in earlier on the GTI, so it actually feels nippier than the R in most daily driving situations. The GTI seats are a little more comfortable for long journeys, too
MassiveGlove Don't talk rubbish the R feels quicker at all times!
When pushed.. the mk7 gti doesn't feel secure in the corners.. scary, floating.. when compared to the mk7 golf r which feels alot more glued. Drive them both then you'll understand
@@alonzoaluzzi7803 ive owned a GTI mk 7.5 (though sadly without a PP) and now i own a 7.5 R and I can agree with this 100% (the LSD of the GTI PP might reduce this difference but it probably still feels understeery because FWD)

+HR in a Car I have no idea, I just know what I like to watch, you will learn an evolve as you go, and I will be here to watch from time to time. In my pc I can in 1080p but is I'm on my phone I always watch in 1440p, but you will find out there is no point off using 1440 if your main audience watch in 1080p or even 720. But as you grow you will automatically move to 1440p and 4k. You have done the hard part, starting, stay strong and see you in the future.
How's the handling on the R?
Good, feels v good, 4wd, noticeable - not driven one? I want one but I also do runs on the M4 and tyre noise is not my thing. Its good tho - really really good, I'd have one over a 235 135 or Cupra R which I have also reviewed on my chan.

for a second when this came up on my recommended i was sure it was from on of those 1 mill car sub'ed channels, which in general i like, top job mate, i like the style, good comedic timing and nice and natural suits your personality, guess what im saying some times people like to change there style as they grow, i personally think you shouldnt, not that you would just a observation. 2nd, 3rd or what ever point im on, i have a r32 2006 mk5, and for cars in this range, being semi sports 270-300 horse's i think needs more info on the output, comparison etc as people buy this range of car on this information, and when reviewing sports or hyper cars you shoud focus on this, with normal cars maybe find another set of rules, comfort boot space etc, and dont be afraid to make them longer!

S3 is quicker 0-60. I have a Mk7 Golf r and apart from the interior I would prefer the R its a much better quick drive.
S3 cabin is v nice though.

Helpful, truly usable and entertaining video, HR.I just brought my lapis blue DSG -16 R 18's, no nav no DCC, home last week and don't quite know where to begin with it. There's a lot of car there. You can't explore its limitations in any one sitting. It feels bullet proof. Two negatives: without DCC, imho, it's a pretty firm ride and the fear ratios are too short. The regular GTI 16 is 3250 at 100 mph. The r is something like 4200 or??? At 100. It's needlessly geared down. I had 2 S4's (00 and 01) and this R reminds me of them except it actually feels like it's going to be far more reliable.
hm - glad you have no rattles, the above had a door panel creak, that would be straight back to the shop.
Im sorry but the S3 is faster than the golf R, its been proven in many videos. I know they share the same drivetrain but the s3 is 50kg lighter

Sure... I am doing GTI ths week if the sun is not too high, so I will be keen to see which I will prefer. I may opt for the GTI but keeping mind very open.

I have 07 mondeo st tdci with 205 bhp and i chased a 15 reg golf r and i was fairly close behind him all the way i thought i was gonna get raped to be honest.Horrible brown metallic colour too.nearly crashed into his rear end around the bends i have bc coilovers and toyo tyres the golf seemed a bit wishy washy around the corners..
