Monolithsoft really chose violence: nearly two hours of emotional trauma inflicted on the player. I absolutely love this game, and this series, but this... this really hurt.
"You're an offseer, so send her" is possibly the best line in the game. N is such a great antognist, I love his his dialogue and his delivery so much. He's infinitely more compelling than Noah, by necessity. Harry did amazing work there.
I had a very similar reaction to the end of chapter 5. Pure unadulterated pain misery and anguish. Ugly crying for hours. I still cry rewatching it even after i know what happened.
The scene with the baby is probably still my favorite from the base game. It's just the most wholesome scene I have ever seen, yet it has an underlying feeling of sadness with how this all had been taken from the soldiers of Aionios.
I learn that my mother had cancer two years ago , few days after xenoblade 3 came out. The end of that chapter 5 it's exactly what i've felt. Seeing life slipping away from you and you can't do nothing... She died last august after fighter that disease so hard (she was even in recovery at some point!). I never cried that much in front of a video game. I'm thankful of Takahashi , Monolith Soft and Nintendo. It's the first time, as i recalled for me, that i've seen something that truly show what it feel to be around someone that is going to die. I never read any book or saw any movie that did it in this great way. This game will forever be one of my favorite JRPG ever alongside Final Fantasy 6 because Xenoblade 3 made me feel that i'm not the only one going through this. It was sad but i was happy that someone made it, so i felt satisfied . I hope everyone is okay in his life as you are reading my message here. Thx you too Permanent Violet, you are someone really pure and kind.
I’m sorry for your loss, friend. My story is the same. My dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer just before this game came out, and the game was part of my grief process. He passed away last year. In Mio’s turmoil through this game, I could see the same struggles my dad had. I know that just like Mio, your mother and my father were grateful for the time they had with us. ❤️
The events of Chapter 6 put _so much_ of what Mio says in Chapter 5 in a _completely_ new light, it's wild seeing these scenes again knowing the full context.
Yeah, i noticed it watching it right now, i only played this game once and never returned to that event again, everything mio said got a new meaning after you know what really happened.
Here we go! I remember making it to chapter 5. I had to go to bed immediately after the end of the eclipse. I was up all night trying to rationalize what I just been through and how it’ll be resolved.
37:15 Takahashi recently stated in an interview that Lucky Seven is in fact Fiora's essence in this world, and the name is meant as a reference to the fandom alias. So congratulations for figuring it out before, noone i know of made that connection (even the devs that sat with him on the interview were surprised) :)
I think Lanz and Sena's conversation is very healthy. A lot of people get hung up on the idea of being "weak" like that label means they are less and because they are that they can't be anything else. But the way Lanz spins the phrase puts it into perspective. Weakness is just room to grow. By owning the areas they wish they were better in, they make their "weakness" into a strength. Hence, "The Mighty Weaklings." It's one of my favourite interractions in the game. I understand Violet not fully absorbing it in that instant, but her saying they "aren't weak" right after felt like such a knee-jerk reaction. The juxtaposition just made me think about how our culture is so resistant to labels like weakness and how suffocating that can be. I love that this game allows that to be okay. You don’t have to be "strong" to be a hero. You can just accept where you are and want to improve and strive to be the best you can be for yourself.
See, I saw it like that, but then they run with that to 'hey, let's blow ourselves up because we're weak and this is all we can do' Which It's a lot to unpack, and I don't think that's the message they were supposed to get from their heart-to-heart there
@@undeadMonk Here's the thing. I believe that is the message of their heart to heart, but given the situation they were thrust into afterwards, they chose to use their acceptance of their weakness as a way to give them the drive to protect their loved ones at the expense of their own lives when they believed they had no chances left. The reason it didn't work is because that wasn't the point and they need to live to see through their growth like Lylatfox said.

I've recently started replaying the game for the first time since my first playthrough. You kind of forget how great the chapters leading up to 5 are because 5 is mostly what people talk about online. I don't think this game will be leaving my head for at least the next 50 years.
Idk y'all, I might have to wait until the CH.6 reaction is out before I watch this...Idk if i can sit on that cliff hanger for a whole month. Edit: I watched it anyway. I did it out of respect for Violet and her hard work editing these, but god damn it hurt. It hurts every time I see it.
I am so glad that Shinia's point of veiw was understandable for you, a lot of folks just can't put themselves in her shoes and see how well written and believable her veiw point is within the context of world. A lot of folks just condemn her for her betrayal rather than trying to see her perspective and question if there isn't a certain argueable benefit entering the cycle and living ignorant of past failures.
It's an identifiable, albeit selfish perspective. The only reason people get to "try again" is because of what is essentially slavery combined with a forced idea of what defines "success."
@@jacobmonks3722 oh for sure her perspective is ultimately flawed, she thinks she has it all figured out but is removed entirely from the conspect of what her life and feelings might be once in the cycle. So of course as the audience with that context tend to just deny her point of view because we know better. It just makes me happy when i see someone else who is able to just, in the moment see her point of veiw and go "damn, that's honestly a tragic but unstandable take, given the circumstances" because Shinia is very much a you love or hate her character and it most often boils down to if the player let's her point of view pull you out of the perspective you've held the last 4 and 3/4th chapters. Great character, great writing and world building, wish more folks dug into her beyond the surface because she is so important.
@@icecreamorc I love her more as an example of how Sena could have been if she didn't have the support group of Mio, Taion, and the Kevesi. Shania might have been a previous or future incarnation of Sena.
After the side story, I completely understood Shania. I teared up for her. Of course, at the time of her betrayal, I didn't see it that way, because I was too distressed at everything happening.
I never noticed how Taion tries to keep the character when they are locked and Eunie does not even react to that, she is like "I dont have the energy for this", and then you can see Taion checking on Eunie while she is sleeping on the floor and when Mio is speaking with Noah, man this game, remember that I finished this chapter almost at midnight on a job week day while my Switch lite was dying, I was shaking, nervous and wanting answers
It's kind of funny how each time I look at these Chapter 5 videos, the pain of seeing the whole prison sequence becomes almost worse than it was on my own playthrough. I did shed a tear that first time, but nowadays, the crying just doesn't stop ... 😢
Do you choose to live forever in the endless now? The chapter so sad that even Manana lost her smile. This chapter is a masterwork, even with its flaws. You spend the whole game learning to love these characters, getting to know and understand them. You watch as the love between Noah and Mio grows. And then you get here. And N's little sideshow puts you right where it wants you... you've still got hope because there's no way they'll just let it happen... right? Suddenly you're right where her Noah was, an emotional wreck, weak to the manipulations of a person in power who will put everything perfect as long as you do as you're told. The player feels the loss of hope, the powerlessness, the... loss. Yes, the endless now feels very appealing right now doesn't it? Or will you continue on, in spite of everything? "I don't want to play any more"
It's been about a month since I finished Chapter 5, and I tried to power through by starting Chapter 6, but it was so painful. I haven't picked the game back up. Granted, other games caught my attention, but when contemplating pickup up my Switch again to continue XC3, I remember how devastated I was at the end of Chapter 5 that I feel drained of energy and I can't play anything at all.
After chapter 5, I was so emotioanlly drained that it took me a week before I continued playing. It's very rare for a game to have that kind of effect on me.
Thanks for sharing this experience. It's showing incredibly vulnerability to upload this, as this game is the most taxing game from an emotional stamina point I've ever experienced. Literally life perspective altering.
I played this chapter and my brother was watching along. After finishing we spent hours the next day talking about because wow. What a roller coaster ride it was! Thank goodness I bought Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Now it’s my brother’s favorite Nintendo Switch game. 😅
Ah, the bad ending. A classic To be honest, I was playing this chapter at 3am and needed 30-40 minutes of crying once I was done with it. Wanna know what’s gotten me to cry that long before? Jiraiya and my dog’s death. That’s it. It destroyed me
I sobbed like a baby (I’m not a crier) after chapter 5. I had lost my boyfriend a year before and this was just too much. He has introduced me to the series. Fantastic game despite it making me cry!!
"My Noah" and "Your Mio" are such great hidden detail in the script that you can't understand until the second playthrough. Now I watch this part again, there are so many hints there to slightly ease our pain during the cutscene, yet it still works wonderfully. Great game, great writing, great directing.
The thing that’s makes it so much better is that you fight N immediately after M and he doesn’t use the music. You are so caught up in the moment you don’t even notice
I really like your reactions because you take notes and try to piece together all the information the game throws at you while it is happening. It's very fun listening to you theory craft and either hitting it on the mark or being way off haha.
I remember I wanted to finally sleep after Chapter 5 because I figured there would be 10 chapters. And then that happened and I didn’t sleep for a whole damn week.
This is like what? The fifth time I've rewatched the end of chapter 5? and it still made me cry! wth the power of emotional damage it able to inflict on me is too big
My housemate and I played this game, and I reached this part of it before her. Mio was her favourite character of the Ouroboros, so I knew the whole scene was going to be rough on her. When she reached Agnus Castle, I advised her simply to brace herself. She thought I meant there was going to be a difficult boss fight. I wasn't witness to her reaction in the end, but she told me she ugly cried and I believe her.
N's absolutely psychopathic behavior here is why I never quite get the criticism of this game having "weak villains". Dude doesn't just inflict emotional damage on the heroes, but the goddam player.

I've recently started replaying the game for the first time since my first playthrough. You kind of forget how great the chapters leading up to 5 are because 5 is mostly what people talk about online. I don't think this game will be leaving my head for at least the next 50 years.
I've been watching people play this game since i finished the story and your videos are some of my favorites!
How many times has it been now?
...that this chapter can mess with my head. Ruining my evening.

funny thing, like a month ago it was confirmed that XC1's "Seven" is actually inside that sword.
The baby scene and the homecoming scene will never not make me cry. Thank you for posting your reactions as always
A lot of folks just condemn her for her betrayal rather than trying to see her perspective and question if there isn't a certain argueable benefit entering the cycle and living ignorant of past failures.
yeah also how she is the reflection of Sena is rarely brought up
It's an identifiable, albeit selfish perspective.
Best Xenoblade reaction content on the internet right here, imo. Love your analysis and theories, Violet! Thank you so much!
It's kind of funny how each time I look at these Chapter 5 videos, the pain of seeing the whole prison sequence becomes almost worse than it was on my own playthrough. I did shed a tear that first time, but nowadays, the crying just doesn't stop ... 😢
40:20 how can you have visions?! You no longer possess the Monado!
I think you’re gonna want to pick it back up, trust me
Chapter 6 is coming with some things you definitely don't want to miss. You have to go on.
2:00:10 and by “so many,” she means 2. O and P were slain by their own stupidity.
After chapter 5, I was so emotioanlly drained that it took me a week before I continued playing. It's very rare for a game to have that kind of effect on me.
Hate myself for watching this. Even knowing what happens, it hurts all over again.
This game broke my heart so bad... I play it in Japanese, but Noah's english voice actor in the final scenes of this chapter nailed it so hard!
A classic
To be honest, I was playing this chapter at 3am and needed 30-40 minutes of crying once I was done with it.
Wanna know what’s gotten me to cry that long before? Jiraiya and my dog’s death. That’s it.
It destroyed me
Welcome to the how to break players chapter by Monolithsoft. Although the emotional support fluffball at the end is so cute.
'I don't even know who the villains are any more'
Welcome to the Xenoblade status quo
2:39:06 I will never forget the moment when Mio said: My Noah.❤❤😭😭
I sobbed like a baby (I’m not a crier) after chapter 5. I had lost my boyfriend a year before and this was just too much. He has introduced me to the series. Fantastic game despite it making me cry!!
2:08:48 they forgot to add the Interlink reverb again. I thought it was only Chapter 2 with Lanz
"My Noah" and "Your Mio" are such great hidden detail in the script that you can't understand until the second playthrough. Now I watch this part again, there are so many hints there to slightly ease our pain during the cutscene, yet it still works wonderfully. Great game, great writing, great directing.
1:53:02 this scene in retrospect and the boss music for m is one of the best and most creative uses of foreshadowing I have ever seen.
It’s time for bedtime, I came to RUclips looking for this, and it was my first recomendarion! Excellent service!
Fantastic, and the one we all waited for! Looking forward to the rest!
I remember I wanted to finally sleep after Chapter 5 because I figured there would be 10 chapters. And then that happened and I didn’t sleep for a whole damn week.
The writing in this game is so good
It's sad how many people who haven't played it just dismiss it as "another anime garbage" game
You can thank Xenoblade 2 for that
Whoever edited those moments, well done. Very well done.
And here it is. This is going to be an interesting watch.
Waiting for your moving on,dont give up for this game❤
A yes...
The infamous chapter 5 ending.
Welcome to Xenoblade
Oh my god, I just thought about you and your playthrough, wondering when the next part will appear. And here its is!! Thanks so much!
The feeling never goes away it was so powerful especially first time viewing the scene,
I stayed awake until 6:30 in the morning to get through this and what comes next.
I can’t believe you predicted the 7th founder right.
Oh my Lord, this is why I subscribed
This is like what? The fifth time I've rewatched the end of chapter 5? and it still made me cry! wth the power of emotional damage it able to inflict on me is too big
"Will you save the game?" EXCUSE ME? 😮
"It's good to keep a record"
My housemate and I played this game, and I reached this part of it before her. Mio was her favourite character of the Ouroboros, so I knew the whole scene was going to be rough on her. When she reached Agnus Castle, I advised her simply to brace herself. She thought I meant there was going to be a difficult boss fight. I wasn't witness to her reaction in the end, but she told me she ugly cried and I believe her.
N's absolutely psychopathic behavior here is why I never quite get the criticism of this game having "weak villains". Dude doesn't just inflict emotional damage on the heroes, but the goddam player.
You mean N ?
@islemsissou7707 oops lol, I'll edit
The baby scene is so precious and amazing!
How many noticed when M-possessed Mio said it’s an easy win, the next line was “You need only take her/my life”
Very fun happy game, yes indeed. Love reliving your playthrough through these videos!
Thanks for the stream edits! Found this channel recently and love your personality!
This chapter 5 ending is a highlight among my expearences playing videogames...
Been really enjoying binge watching your playthrough! ❤ I love this game so much. I'm happy that you enjoy it as much as I did. It did made me cry a lot as well. Lol.
Your reactions are priceless😅 And so many things you guessed right without knowing 😊
After seeing the length of the part I see why it took a while to come out.
She was, in fact, not okay.
Keep going! You NEED the next chapter, trust me
She finished it over a year ago, she’s just really making us wait for the edited videos lol. She said it was really hard to go back to look at all of it to edit
1:27:33 Oh man, I never realized that THIS very music is playing there!!!
It seems I have three chapter videos to catch up to, yipeeeeeee
Chapter 5 my beloved,
An experience ruined by me experiencing it the first time at 1am on a sweaty crowded 9hr plane journey in pitch black darkness.
