I've had three 1962 Studebaker Hawks. My favorite one was black with a red interior. It had a 4 speed transmission, but other than that, it seems to be the same as this one. I added a 4 barrel carburetor and a higher lift cam. It was a fabulous driving car. I drove it when I attended Cal. State University, Fresno, and I would drive it to San Diego for school breaks. Cross winds in the Grapevine were terrible, but they did not affect the Hawk, I just didn't feel them! Fantastic car.
I bought a '62 Hawk in early fall, 1962! Black, with saddle tan interior. But mine was probably a one off. Dealer had some sort of special connection with the factory and mine came with an Avanti engine option not supposed to be available until the '63 model year. A 304 CID R-3 engine that would really fly! I put 142,000 miles on her, sold the car in 1993, still running. Buyer restored the car. Wish I still had it!
