It's funny- "Zero Eclipse" is obviously Historia's song, and "Call of Silence" is Ymir's, but when they are sang like this, like two women signing to eachother, its sounds like Historia is singing Call of Silence to Ymir, and like Ymir is singing Zero Eclipse to Historia, and then at the point where they both sing that their world's eclipse, it switches to each of them singing their own song. Beautiful

Attack on Titan will always hold a place in my heart as the best anime ever. Not because of the story, music, characters or action, but because these elements create its own Art. Attack on Titan is the anime of this generation and is a must watch for all .

We all thought that Call of Silence is Ymir's theme, while Zero Eclipse is Historia's. But like to think that it's two people, singing about the other. Their personal messages to one another, their thoughts of each other, describing who they are.

You dont even have to like to think that, you are pretty much spot on if you ask me^^. At least for Zero Eclipse, if you look at the Lyrics its obvious that its Ymir singing to Historia in that song. Sound of Silence isnt that definitive but it still fits Historias Viewpoint very well.

I loved season 2 because of her.
She and Historia shined in that season.
Historia and Ymir is easily one of the most impactful relationships throughout AOT. Reading the Uprising arc for many times, I've realized that Historia's biggest desire was staying with Ymir. She once said "As long as I'm with you, no matter where we are, I'm OK with it". She even implied her romantic sentiment towards Ymir by saying how it's difficult for her to explain her emotions involved with Ymir.
Even during her conversations with Eren, Historia always mentioned Ymir as the one that changed her for better. Ymir is a reflection of true love for Historia. And it seems like Eren could see through Historia's love towards Ymir. In chapter 54, Eren caught Historia staring at him - and immediately he questioned her that whether she's mad at him for not saving Ymir in chapter 50. Eren saw Historia's romantic emotions towards Ymir because himself shared the same feelings with Mikasa.
Interrelatedly, Historia teased Mikasa for why Mikasa only showed her tattoo to Eren (Mikasa's deepest secret). Historia herself knew how much in love Mikasa was with Eren because herself also exposed her secret to Ymir - the first person that Historia introduced herself as Historia (not Krista).
If you notice, Ymir is the figure that taught Historia how to live. Similar to how Eren is to Mikasa. In the last chapter, Historia is portrayed to wear Ymir's shawl, and throughout the manga, Mikasa always wears Eren's scarf.
Both couples are tragic regardless. I hope this insight can stop any on going shipping wars.

Ymir had literally no one her whole life, became a titan, ate Marcel, found Historia, and in the end wasn't even able to marry her before she died. She had a sad life, not just a sad backstory. She suffered her entire life and continued suffering until she died.
i don't think Ymir was treated like crap her whole life. quite the opposite. she was idolised as a goddess reborn, and named after founder Ymir. she got good food and a warm place to sleep while she was a small kid. it was only because she lived in a place like marley, that the secret worshipper covenant got exposed and sent to paradis as titans.
i think that the beauty of Ymir and Historia's relationship, is that undeniably, both are going through the same thing in a way. they weren't wanted or needed by anyone, until they became the object of idolisation for some kind of royalty, and forced to play the role of a saint to appease the crowds, and hence that was what ymir was calling out historia for in the earlier episodes of season 2 prior to her reveal as the jaw titan.
for Ymir, she was worshipped as a goddess by desparate people, one of which attempted to sell her out. for Historia, she only got saved by reiss when she was the last of his lineage of royal bloodlines, and her adoption of the Christa persona was a facade built on what she assumed others wanted of her, inspired by how Freida described founder Ymir in the book she told stories about.
ironically, both their lives were built on playing the role of the real founder Ymir, a slave in this story.
Man, so zero eclipse was really Ymir's song for Historia. Damn song was a lesbian ballad all along. After reading 139, I'm glad Historia fulfilled her promise with Ymir. She really did live a life she is proud of.

And this is a bit of a spoiler but I have a feeling Historia will name her child Ymir, in honor of her lover's death. So the whole Ymir Fritz thing will go full circle, and Ymir will finally achieve freedom.

Historia and Ymir are absolutely 100% canon. Unfortunately canon and permanent are not the same thing. The reality is the Historia and Ymir's story follows a classic dynamic for a wartime love story; and wartime love stories often end in tragedy.

Spoiler I actually meant Historia and Eren. Nonetheless this person weird as hell. There’s tons of articles about their relationship, and it’s obvious that isayama wanted to keep their relationship “open” was because he wanted people to have their own interpretations, which a lot of good writers do. It’s supposed to be a tragic war love story, and EVEN when George Wada confirmed it in the interview and in the same interview Isayama didn’t deny it, it’s still an interpretation because you, the reader or the viewer, can interpret things however you like. Were they a couple? They were very clearly in love and wanted to be together but from my understanding Historia and Ymir never got together because the events of the Clash of the Titans arc (Season 2) prevented them from ever having a moment where they became a couple. They both wanted to be but because of the circumstances, they never did. In some ways I like this more because it is an even greater tragedy. The fact that if things had gone their way, they would have got married, but the world they lived in was so cruel they never even got to become anything more.

I actually have the opinion that out of all AoT romances, these two had the best and most emotionally fulfilling arc. There were so many moments in the story where they went out of their way for each other and expressed their feelings. Hell, the moment when Ymir is laying in Historia’s arms and she tells her her real name, revealing her “true self”? I’m sorry, but you can’t get much more blatant with romantic subtext. These two had A LOT of content and validated feelings. I could write a paper on the way AoT does relationships and themes, but these two I think had it the best.
Exactly. When I first saw their interaction, I never thought of them as merely friends. They have this special bond between them that everytime they're on-screen, it feels as if they have their own world. I love their dynamic which is why they are my favorite pairing.

Ymir is my favorite character on this anime. Even though she wasn't as strong as another character, but still, her act on season 2 was really wonderful.
I mean, she teach us to be honest with ourselves, and I think, a scene when she sacrificing herself to Reiner and Bertholt, was an valuable sacrifice. She knows, without devoured Reiner and Bertholt's comrade, she won't be able to live 1 more time, and she try to bring it back, even though she knows that she never will to meet Historia again and just die without regret. That was really teach us to be grateful and give more value to things that we have now.

A lot of people forget that Ymir was from Marley before she turned into a titan. That’s the main reason why she went with Reiner and Bertholdt. If not for them she would’ve spent the rest of her life as a mindless Titan. That along with getting Marcel’s memories made her the only person who understood the Warriors and she felt terribly guilty about it. It’s kind of funny how one of the coldest and most apathetic characters turned out to be the only one to care

@@reinersfattits I like to imagine they became, if not true lovers, then at least friends that were content spending their lives together. Aside from overcoming both her father (Choosing to end the tyranny and stagnance of the shadow monarchy) and her mother (Loving her child despite not having wanted them), Historia's arc is also about, as Ymir put it, living a life she could be proud of. Regardless of her sexuality, I think she'd at least try to be happy with Farmer-kun, and I like to imagine she succeeds. :)
I think that Historia and Ymir's relationship is one of the most sacred one I ever seen.

What kills me is that Historia most likely never knew *why* Ymir left her behind. She may have had some idea but never the full picture. Think about it, Ymir went as far as kidnapping her and then suddenly changed her mind and never explained any of it, not that it would have made sense if she did. Historia never knew Ymir realized that she would be safer inside the walls and as far as she knew Ymir left solely because she had the Jaw Titan and knew she’d be hunted down for it. She probably spent the rest of her life wondering why they couldn’t have gone together and hidden away from the war like what Levi and Hange talked about by the river.

What a beautiful Tuesday morning surprise this was. Just finished watching the premiere and man this might be the best Call of Silence x Zero Eclipse mix I've ever heard.
