I didn't think this series would have such a huge emotional impact on me...
I poured my heart and soul into this cover because I can relate to David and Lucy's story so much right now.... sigh..

Two facts that will probably make you cry even more:
1. Lucy said cyberpunks will be remembered how by how they die instead of how they lived, so she doesn’t want David to become one.
However, in the end she remembers David by how he lived not how he died, even though David became a cyberpunk after all.
2. Doc said after using up all the strengthened meds he gave David, no matter how special David is he was bound to lose himself.
However, even after using all the meds, Lucy managed to help David remain himself by kissing him. Lucy was David’s last dose of medicine.
Fun fact, it's canonical that cyberpsychosis isn't even a thing. It's just used as an excuse to sell people more meds and stuff. It's actually just people losing their minds because of the hyperviolence.

This whole anime was a wild gut punch. Night City isn’t a place where much good happens, but the glimmer of happiness Lucy and David found in each other, was worth reality’s bitterness.
The only good part of Night City is the road out of it.

It wasn't clear in the game but in Cyberpunk universe effectively there's no Real country or government, there's only the Corporation. Various tidbits of Johnny Silverhand pasts clearly hinted that was the case.
In Edgerunners it was stressed that Arasaka is the only future the Night City has, you want a good future? You become one of them one way or another. The rest of their economy and way of living are geared to serve those corporations or benefiting from them somehow like how the gangsters are effectively fought over Arasaka junks and scraps. Whole top of the line black market stuffs are their illegally obtained, distributed military grade stuffs.
Night City is what gave this kid the opportunity to rise above his station, it just in the end also chewed him up and spit him back out. Its why I wish the side stuff in the game was more fleshed out.
That moment where Lucy pulled David out from the psychosis and he looked at her with all the hope and love he had for her… I cried because I knew it wasn’t going to last.
Wrong city, wrong people... As a rule there's no getting out of the system for people like David or Lucy except for V who's basically a demigod. That makes what David gave Lucy even more incredible, he really did accomplish the impossible and got her out even if it cost him absolutely everything.
They got the happiest ending they could hope for. Lucy got the fuck out of Night City and David became a legend.
He might not have lived to see it, but having Adam Smasher himself sent after him cemented his place as a legend of Night City.

I remember seeing a comment saying that he loved her so much that a single kiss was enough to bring him back, he loved her that much
This part is soldered into my mind. The way he looked at her, it was with so much life and hope that he had been previously deprived of. The psychosis slowly seeping in and just recklessly going motions, he was essentially lifeless. This moment was especially heartbreaking because he was finally alive again but it was only short lived.

She returned the favor by at least ensuring that he died a sane person. He was doomed to become a cyberphsyco and she prevented that from being is final moments.

I think David always knew how his story would end; heck, everyone around him was telling him how his story would end. He couldn't let that be Lucy's ending. David would never get to "the top of Arasaka." That narrative truism is really what makes the writing great IMO. The writers tell you from the very beginning (and consistently throughout the show) exactly how the show is going to end. You are just there to stare at the headlights until you get hit.
I wish I never watched edgerunners. My curiosity literally killed me. Now I can't stop tearing up after hearing this song

One of the things and what i admire the most about this series is.. How David, someone who didn't really have a dream of his own, was willing to give up on his dreams for the sake of the dreams of the people that he cared about. His mother's dream, Lucy, Maine, and others. He gave all himself to realize those dreams that arent his, he burned himself so fast in doing so, but he left with no regret. What we saw on the ending scene, that was the face of a man who lived his life with no regret. David Martinez, the night city legend. o7
Well i think he did had had a dream before he died, it was protecting other people, especially Lucy, that’s why when Falco drove away with Lucy, he still smiling even though death was near.
But Lucy and him was a dream... I guess..
a legend for sure but i dont think anyone would be happy i mean His mother would be extremely sad to see what he became maine's crew is pretty much all dead dont think he would have been happy and lucy doesnt have david to share her happiness on the moon with in the end he wanted to do it all... but you know what they say there are no happy endings in night city...
Nice summary, 2 questions though:
- can we really say David gave up his dreams when he didn't have any in the first place ?
- Lucys dream was to go to the moon. But i'm not sure if her dream didn't shift to go to the moon together with David as the series went on ?
Real great show, though i cannot subscribe to the die to fulfill others dreams philosophy. Living means new possibilities, new chances, which i definitely prefer.
But in the end it was just the wrong city and the wrong people for a happier ending. I'm still tearing up over that shit.

I think the true tragedy is that in the end, David could not escape the mentality he inherited from his mother. His mother died right after having made him aware of the sacrifice she was making to keep him in school, but this ended up having him idealize self sacrifice, and fulfilling other peoples dreams. The trauma made him unable to have ambitions of his own, and when he fell in love with Lucy, he projected this ideal and attempted to fulfill her dream, regardless of the consequences to himself. Meanwhile, Lucy had the trauma of running away and letting her friends die, so she was attempting to save David from the source of her trauma, namely Arasaka. The cruel irony is that the biggest threat to David was not actually arasaka, but rather himself and his crumbling psyche, and Lucy was no longer dreaming of going to the Moon, but rather going anywhere with David. So in the end David sacrificed himself to fullfill a dream Lucy no longer cared about, while Lucy was to busy trying to secretly save him from arakawa that she could not be there for him when he needed emotional support. David then turned to "chroming up" as a way to combat the stress he was feeling, since this had been the way he had coped with his mothers death. Its like a greek tragedy on steroids.
the crazy thing that kills me is the fact that david really didn't have any issues with cyberpsychosis until his relationship with lucy started downturning when he felt she was doubting and they were becoming more distanced, to him. Yet at the end when she brought him back he wasn't going nuts like he was before. SHE was the reason why he was special

I thaught that the reason why David started to have issues was the piece that he takes from Maine, the Doc said that it was not compatible but David dismissed him saying that it wont became a problem, but yes, Lucy has a very good effect on him at the point to nullift the old implant's bad effect on him
@@eerigbal7169 Not really think the message was that in the end, he was not special. He was not a chosen one to lead them. We can see that when he meets adam smasher. He was better at handling them than most people but that was it. It is the same with Lucy she was made to do net running like all the children in her group but that did not make them special in the end like they say there are no happy endings in night city. I think Lucy helped but david would keep going more chrome and that can only end badly.

What made him special was the fact that even in a place like Night City where drugs, death, and corpo tyranny reign supreme David held onto his Humanity which was EXACTLY what made him special in the first place and was what was able to make him so resistant to Cyberpsychosis. Gotta remember even in the game and Anime the TTRPG rules are the basis of the world and Humanity literally being the Anti-Cyberpsychosis stat in the TTRPG means the more human a person is the more chrome they can pack on. For example V could pack on all the chrome he wants cuz Silverhand was a literal buffer against Cyberpsychosis but Adam Smasher could be fully borged out cuz he was already a psycho to begin with while David was more the opposite of Adam Smasher where his empathy and humanity made him able to just stack on chrome until shit started to happen where his overall mental well being was slipping which is when he felt Lucy was doubting him or was distancing herself from him and was ESPECIALLY when he killed that woman who reminded him of his mom.

Its interesting that so many people see the ending as David finding out he's not as good as Adam Smasher, a literal psychopath from the start who only cares about the thrill of killing. David's humanity and empathy for others was what made him a hero, a character worth loving and cheering for. He sacrificed himself for the ones he loved, and was humbled, as we will all be, by a world that will destroy our bodies sooner or later. But his soul stayed whole, because of the choices he made and who he was.

From what I know there is no cure, but V can at least find closure and comfort in his final days. Johnny said something like this somewhere in the game.

I cry everytime I remember David couldn't keep his promise to join Lucy on the moon. They had so much love and chemistry, and just seeing Lucy alone makes me tear up.

Update: I told her how I felt. She told me she felt the same. We spent every night this weekend watching movies, cooking together, and then we'd go lie in a field with a bottle of strawberry wine and watch what just so happened to be the biggest meteor shower of the year. There was not a single cloud in the sky.
Update as of Dec. 8th:
The other morning, I was holding her in my arms and accidentally used the phrase "When we get married." (Whoops.) To both of our surprise, phrase didn't scare us as much as we thought it would. In fact, it was exhilarating. Neither one of us has much holding us back from moving forward. We were discussing marriage before we even began to date officially. The last big thing we're waiting for is time and I finish graduate school in a few months. But we've been talking, and at the point I graduate, I don't plan on having a girlfriend; I plan on having a fiancé.

The song itself is nice and I just vibe to it now but after hearing this, you really feel their love and feel hurt for Lucy. But the only thing David had to lose was Lucy, so his sacrifice to let her see the moon one day is beautiful. In the end, her dream came true at such a painful cost. I'm glad I got to see such a love blossom in my life.
hate to say it but Lucy’s dream definitely changed after the time skip from going to the moon to just being with David…no one got a happy ending but I like to believe that David is alive right now and they have kids on the moon. Farewell comrade
@@chu_tonight I really hope Cyberpunk 2/Orion/2080 or whatever it will be called will have Lucy return to Night City in some sort of capacity. To my understanding, she now resides on the moon and she has no business in Night City anymore, but I feel alongside the untold stories in 2077 (Peralez's and the Crystal Palace as examples), I feel her story and her character arc still has a lot to offer on the lore side of things.

Stumbled upon this track by pure luck during my CyberPunk gaming days during it's initial - just some random radio in a house on a mission. Discovered the song's name and played it on repeat while grappling with the loss of my fiancée. Yeah, this song carries a whole different weight for me. Watching it play out in the anime, tears just streamed down.

I watched the anime and cried in the final part when this song kicked in.
And then listening to the song I cried again some other times.
Then i saw this cover and thought "Ok, you are now used to it, you can listen to an emotional cover without crying again, do you?"
So I listen to it and wow, I'm not crying, I can do it, I almost fell when i saw the scene where Lucy takes David's hand but I resisted.
BUT THEN we arrive at 3:28. The music stops. "I'll take you to the Moon. I promise!" Then the kiss and the music starts again.

Despite a lot of the things that are suppose to be rare or nonexistent in Night City, David and Lucy seemed to have it. Trust, love, memory of how they lived and not succumbing to cyberpsychosis even without meds David truly was "Built different" in the end

I don't remember if I commented on this or not, but... the original of this still makes my bones chill at "I don't know why I'm no one," because of where that hits in the show... this... this hits so. much. harder... and different but just... wow. Absolutely beautiful.
It's crazy how much a fictional story can touch you... Edgerunners just has done it in a better way than almost any other work I've seen.... Seeing someone believe they are special, leading them down a destructive path, while sacrificing everything for the dream of his comrade, his lover... It's so wonderful, and the fact there is no happy ending makes me so pleased.... 10/10 series

I love the added violin. It adds so much emotion.
This show was an absolute masterpiece. Despite its incredibly violent and gory fights and moments, it had some incredibly wholesome moment too. I wish I could say that I was able to hold in the tears (Especially at the end). I'm really hoping for a season 2, though I have no idea how they would recover after all that has happened in these few episodes.
Unless each season is another story of a different Edgerunner in Night City then they can't really make a season 2.

I watched cybepunk 1 year ago and listened to many of your covers but untill few weeks ago I havent listened this one.
Started playing Cyberpunk more or less two months ago, lost both my grandparents last and my ex gf break up with me in just three days last month and then this video comes to me.
Even if I'm broken (or maybe cause of that) I cannot stop listening to it.
And even if a part of me hates her now I just hope we "go to the moon" separately.

So I came across this song randomly a few days ago. I had never really been too interested in Cyberpunk but this song kinda hit me in the feels, really hard. So, after some time and once my workweek was over, I binged the entire season.
Holy hell. What was I missing. I feel so heartbroken in the best way.
I'm a native Japanese & English speaker (watched Edgerunners in both languages; personally liked Japanese version more), and the epicness of this mix was already watering up my eyes, but that Japanese line totally caught me off guard that I just immediately collapsed in tears right after that「俺が君を月に連れて行くよ！」😭
English is better suited for cyberpunk edge runners because it’s set in america and David Martinez is a Hispanic kid, in the English there’s an accent differentiation

When this game first came out, despite the glitches and buggy gameplay, I was in love with the story. I put up with it then and still do to this day, but before Edgerunners I always associated it this particular song with the tragic relationships between our beloved characters. Misty and Jackie, Alt and Johnny, Judy and V. Now Lucy and David are right there beside them all in my mind’s eye.
