I really enjoy Fields of Normandy and I was looking for a war game from this era and it just arrived. Now just to copy & paste (irl) for the counters. We've got a heavy duty laminator at the local library so I think I'll give that a try.
The reason for the extensive rules in this book is because there is an active intelligent AI instead of the usual static reactive AI found in previous books. Although 30 pages of rules, it is well-illustrated and includes plenty of examples of play. It is an easy read for the most part. You may need to spend a little time learning how the AI operates and the intricacies of line-of-sight and facing, but things will fall into place after the first couple of scenarios.
This looks like it could be played on a Command & Colors board with the terrain pieces
I have seen at least one person do exactly that. Good idea.

That is one heck of a meaty game system.
It may look like there are only a few counters, and a small map, but the details change that.
The counters represent GENERIC units. There are many maps.
Thinking about this game system as though it were miniatures rules, and the merits become clear.
Looking at the prices ... even $100 would not be extreme ... but they are all under $20. That's a steal ... even if the AI were crap
