I love your idea of reading the newspaper once a week to know what is going on in the world. We really don't need to hear "breaking news" continuously. What would we do with that information anyway? 90% of news is just downright depressing.
Great video! You live in such a beautiful part of the world! I share many parts of your approach to slowing down. I also remind my self to walk slower, talk slower, write slower...physically slowing down has made a huge difference!
I don't usually comment on any channel, I do however always make sure that I "Like" your channel as I genuinely do! I didn't realize people look at comments that much, but I did want to let you know that I really appreciate your channel and I find your content encouraging, helpful and reinforcing as I am on a similar journey and it feels good to know I'm not on it alone. So, thank you so much, I always look forward to your next video!
Hi, I am a new viewer from Canada. I retiring in November and one of the things I am most excited about is slowing down, having more time to walk, knit, cook from scratch. I cannot wait! Love your idea about looking at a paper once a week.
Your habit 5 is so true, I don't want to hide away from the news but I choose to follow positive and sane people, follow hope, and make whatever small actions I can contribute count. Thank you for all your reflections, you are very perceptive.
Hi! I loved this one. For me, what helps me remember to stay calm and slow down more is doing things like drinking less caffeine (since it really speeds up my mind), spending time in absolute silence, spending time in nature, working on crafts such as needlework where you really have to focus and your mind sorts out things, and even spending time with my cat because he is very calming and puts me in a more mindful headspace. Thank you! 🌸
Thank you. No matter where we live - I am in the US - we seem to have similar responses to the stressors of the world. Several years ago, I stopped watching news on tv. And then stopped watching tv. Within the last two years, my husband did the same. Not having the background noise is a relief. In warm weather, I spend much of my day outside. In cold weather, I go outside for short spans of time, but even that much helps reset, calm, and lift my spirits. I always look forward to your videos. Your voice is calming. This was a lovely way my day.
You're so right about what a relief it is not having tv on as a background noise. When I grew up, the tv was always on and now that seems unfathomable to me.
Thank you for such a positive video. It reminds us all to slow down and enjoy life. It has been difficult for me to say no but I’m getting better at it. Walks in the woods for me is wonderful! I feel alive there. I live in a beautiful country side small house In Massachusetts.
I just found your channel. I subscribed because I love your ideas and your straight forward manner. I thrive on moderate routine. I sleep and wake the same everyday. My body demands it lol. And a flexible routine actually allows me freedom to take charge of my time. When I need to deviate from the routine, it doesn’t bother me for the most part because I know I will go back to it as I can. Resetting my home each night is a slow living habit I love. It is picking up the house and allows me wake to a calm and clutter free home.
The only newspaper available in my area is a small-town publication. I look forward to turning physical pages to read about community events and local government. Access to so much online information is overwhelming & anxiety producing. I love living a simpler life.
One of the problems with online news is that they never end. What I like about a physical newspaper is that someone has made the selection for me of what is "important" and when I've gone through them, I feel informed enough but not overwhelmed.
Thank you for this. Living in the US right now is difficult. I definitely need to see fewer headlines. I will probably watch this video a few more times. 😊
Hi I’m a new subscriber I agree I don’t need news from the outside world I’m learning to slow down little by little thank you for your video from the uk
Thank you so much for this video. I liked it. It's nice that learn these views while you are so young. I'm nearly 77 (next month) and I do learn these kind of thought now. I'm also trying to study 'A course of miracles'. That learns me to look in another way. Your six point are nice. I have another 7th point: feeling gratitude. Every day a little moment of realising what I am gratitude for. I'm going to follow you from now on ☺️✨
I want to say I am in agreemnet with you, social media is great but very intrusive, when i was a child we would only get local news and maybe things that were happening in a big city, now we can access what is going on in outer Mongolia, and the jungles of Borne, no disrespect but honestly we take more care about those places than what is going on in our own neighbourhoods, its exhausting. I have decided its time to simplify my life again, and switch off the laptop, leave my phone at home some days and just disconnect full stop. i am so tired these days, and after the death of a loved one that truely broke my heart I no longer have the same patience and priorities I once had. I would add that I am not going to give my time and money or anything else that no longer deserves it either, we only have a limited amount of resources too. Thank you for sharing ,love from the UK.
Disconnecting from the news and digital devices at least sometimes is a good idea. We're all allowed to decide for ourselves what our time and resources go to. 😊
Hi Jaana, thank you for your lovely video. As someone who has always resisted routine in a BIG way I have recently begun to ponder on the benefits of routine so I found your thoughts very helpful 🙏🏻
As it happens, there is a part of me that resists routine, too. What I find helpful is to leave space for surprising elements while still having the security of a routine. I hope it works out for you!
@ Thank you. I’m starting to (try and) incorporate certain elements that are helpful to me into each day - this has the benefits you mention in the video…. I in no way do it all in a set order at a set time. I‘d love to learn more on this topic…
I get physical; yoga, Pilates, walking, hiking; these things always feel important to me and I feel more positive and alive after a physical activity. In the winter I shovel snow; in the spring and summer I garden. Being outside is important.
A calm and gentle video, with an excellent message, thank you 🌷 I embraced slower living many years ago, and don’t watch the news! I try to have gratitude every day and see the good in life, we know the world is a broken place, but if we all did small changes to our lives and our attitudes, we can bring love and compassion ❤️

Yeah, most of us don't need to know what's going on every day or even every hour.
Great video! You live in such a beautiful part of the world! I share many parts of your approach to slowing down. I also remind my self to walk slower, talk slower, write slower...physically slowing down has made a huge difference!
This is where I am right now - reminding myself gently to move more slowly 🧡
That's true! I do the same, trying to physically slow down.

Thank you for leaving a comment even if you don't normally do so! You are definitely not alone. Looking forward to having you back on my channel. 🧡

I hope you will have a good time going for walks, knitting and cooking from scratch. Sounds lovely!

I really have no idea if that's the case in Finland. 😅 I would say most people probably do have a double bed.

Great tips! I do many of the things you mentioned, too.
Make room for joy. I love this one.

Congrats on getting better at saying no!
This was just the video I needed to see today! Thank you for your encouragement, and the reminders about perspective shifts and joy in particular ❤
Beautiful words of wisdom 💚
Thanks another very sensible and sane video. I appreciate your thoughts 😊

Resetting your home each night sounds like something I would benefit from. At the moment I'm a bit of a messy person, unfortunately. 😅
I love your home-knit jumpers. They are absolutely beautiful ❤

Well, none of us know how much we have time left so in that sense it doesn't really matter whether we learn something when we are "young" or older.

You're so right! I do think physical exercise is important, too. And just being outdoors and maybe digging in the garden can be very relaxing.

Watching this video an hour after I cancelled my IG account feels like the confirmation I did the right thing.
Congratulations! Enjoy you IG-free life.
From watching Finnish series and vlogs, I noticed that adults seem to sleep in single beds. Does it feel safer and cozier than a double bed?
I really don't know if that's a thing in Finland. 😅 I would say that probably most people have double beds.
I forgot….I am living in Farmsum, in the Netherlands 😊.
Schade das es keinen deutschen Untertitel gibt. So verstehe ich nicht viel 😢
You can change it in settings (the small wheel on your screen). Options, auto translate, German. Try that.
