How to overcome perfectionism - My experience as a recovering perfectionist | Slow Living in Finland
Просмотров 68День назад
Don't be a perfectionist - it will burn you out. At least, that's what happened to me. Here are my thoughts and tips on overcoming perfectionism. Perfectionism has little to do with achieving good results at work or in other tasks, no matter how much society demands perfection from us. It's more about never feeling good enough or worthy. Perfectionism discourages creativity, makes you focus on ...

3 Reasons to spend more time in nature - Slow living in Finland
Просмотров 10421 день назад
I just came back from a short family getaway in a cottage surrounded by the most beautiful Finnish nature. The trip inspired me to talk about why nature is so important to us and why all of us should try to bring more time there. Connecting to nature can help us feel more relaxed, bring us solace when we have worries and bring more silence and peace to our lives when we need it. By the way, in ...

Slow living in Finland - What does slow life mean to me?
Просмотров 132Месяц назад
In this video, I explore how to live more intentionally by focusing on what truly matters. Slow living can mean different things for different people: working less, moving to the country, homesteading, simple life, even minimalism... For me aspects of all of these are important but for me, essentially, slow life means a mindful, balanced and an intentional life. Slow living is a headspace and a...
Frugal living - How to stop wanting to buy stuff (5 tips)
Просмотров 51Месяц назад
How to start living frugally? Why even try frugal living? How to stop wanting to buy more stuff? Consumption divides opinions. Should we keep the economy running or save the planet by going on a shopping strike? Our society is built on the idea that we are constantly enticed to buy new things. However, it's not always about real needs, as shopping easily becomes a habit. What if you used the th...
Autumn in Finland - Enjoying slow life in the country and learning to rest
Просмотров 62Месяц назад
Autumn is here. The leaves change to bright shades of orange, yellow, and red, and the mornings become cool and crisp. The air feels fresh, mist lingers over fields and the scent of fallen leaves fills the breeze. I've been gathering rowanberries from my garden and decorated my home with them. I've dried black chokeberries to preserve all the vitamins and nutrients for winter. It's easy to fall...

Your videos are beautiful and filled with good thoughts. I used to think I was a perfectionist but now I realize that I love quality. So I'm not trying so hard to be perfect as to do things well. And, I think you are right that we need to prioritize so that we only put 100% into a very few things because we can't put 100% or even 90% everything. Just the things that truly matter most. And even then, it's hard to be able to do 100% consistently on anything. There's an ebb and flow to life, and sometimes 80% or even 60% is enough. It depends on the season we are in. In any case, it is best to be gentle and loving with ourselves, and not push too hard. And, like you said, to celebrate the successes, however small they might be.

You're so right, there's an ebb and flow to life. Sometimes things go well without even trying so hard and other times you really have to put in effort. It would be foolish to expect everything to be 100 % perfect all the time.

I really appreciate your thoughts and ideas as they inspired me to slow down and enjoy this season more. When fall comes and I can feel winter approaching I think about all the wonderful soups I want to make over the coming months. There are certain favorites, and then it would be also fun to experiment with some new recipes. Also, here in the US Thanksgiving is approaching and that means pumpkin pie. I also love a fire in the fireplace, and taking the time to just enjoy looking at it while drinking a cup of tea.

Thanks for mentioning soups, you're right that they're perfect for this season. It must be fun that in the US you have Thanksgiving to look forward to in November. Have fun preparing for it!

❤ Thanks for sharing! When I was a child, until I turned 13, I was a perfectionist that had no trouble trying to excel in everything and very often did. (Or at least I felt like it.) At age 13, a little after puberty hit, I had emotional issues and things went downhill. Ever since then I stopped trying as hard. After this tough period, I seemed to be afraid of failure and didn't try at all for many things. Or I would start a task but not finish because i would obsess over perfection which I could never reach. I became apathetic and a slob...the complete opposite of how I was ages 12 and under. I'm 45 now and STILL trying to just do things, instead of having an "all or nothing " attitude. My daughter is 13 and I can see her stop caring recently too. She'd rather just not care or try than to fail. When she was younger she was always top of her class (or years ahead) and her room was spotless, etc. Her kindergarten teacher even had a meeting with me to discuss her perfectionism because she would throw an entire paper or project away and cry if she perceived the smallest mistake. I hope she can learn to balance out. I enjoyed your video! Thank you!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I can relate to what you said: "I'm 45 now and STILL trying to just do things, instead of having an "all or nothing " attitude". I don't think it's easy to let go or our previous thought patterns. Maybe it's a process that will last the rest of our lives. And that's ok, we are learning new ways to cope with things all the time anyway. Wishing you and your daughter a very pleasant day! Thanks for watching!

I love that you can enjoy all the land in Finland. I live in the US and I see so many pretty places I'd like to go and take photos, but I can't because it's someone's property. We have some parks, but usually there are people playing sports, etc. The state parks are better, but I have to drive a ways to get there.

Your comment reminded me to be more grateful for being able to walk and hike where ever I want. I think other nordic countries have similar "everybody's rights" but other than that, it's probably the way you described in many parts of the world.

I actually love November. Whilst I love the bright oranges, yellows, and crimsons of October, when November comes around I think of cinnamon spice, chocolate, pomegranate and cranberry colors, with a bit of frosty grey mist sprinkled in. It’s a time to slow down, to breathe, to read, to create, to just be. It is, also, the time to cook/bake with all the beautiful and delicious seasonal foods available to us. I just found your channel (and subscribed) and am looking forward to watching your past videos. Much luck and blessings on your new channel. Thank you for showing us your world and the time and attention you put into your videos.(From Ohio/USA)♥️

I am similar. Just today I saw beautiful unique-looking coffee mugs and almost bought them at $18/mug. I talked myself out of it because I have some perfectly functional mugs at home, though they are nothing that special. The appliances in our home are several decades old and still perfectly functional. My friends will ask why we haven’t upgraded the kitchen, as an example. I just tell them that what I have works and cannot see why it would be worth spending thousands of dollars to replace appliances that work. Also, the way appliances and a lot of other things are made nowadays compared to decades ago - well, the quality just is not there. It is like planned obsolescence is built into many items. Not as many things are built to last and made with true quality materials. I finally caved buying a new kitchen faucet when my old one started acting up for the fourth time. I do have to admit, though, I do love my new up-to-date kitchen faucet! 😂

You are so right about planned obsolescence. It's frustrating that sometimes there even isn't the option to buy an item that would last. If you have quality appliances that still work, stick to them!

I enjoy the dark times. Specially when the snow comes. Sun is beautiful, but too much sunshine within a year doesn't feel good in the body. I need balance, winter times, cozy moments, candle light atmosphere, good warm tea or glögi 🕯️🍵🥰 But of course, dark times can feel overwhelming and rough then if any sorrow in life, huge changes, losses. But also it brings some comfort too. No matter how dark, there's always some artificial lights around or candles. Moon or stars in the sky. It feels that we're always taken care by life, no matter how dark times. ❤ Thanks for the video. English content as good as Finnish 😊👍

I absolutely agree - too much sunshine is just too much! 😅 And yes, I also think that the dark season can feel more overwhelming if you are going through something difficult in your life at the same time. Thanks for watching!

It is wonderful to see your life in Finland, and the berries you picked, and your knitting. I agree---we need rest and I think many of us are too hard on ourselves about that, thinking we need to be doing all the time. But, as you said, we are not machines. Thank you for your video!
