This video shows where and how to easily spawn the elusive Carolina Parakeet.
This animal is not required to complete the compendium.
However it is necessary to achieve 100% game completion, because it is required for the Skin Deep award.

This is not only perfect but it worked to a T, on my second try I got to the island at 6:30 am and no birds, went back to skin some gators and returned at 7:15 am and the birds spawned upon my return, this is

I can confirm this definitely worked after spending days trying to find parakeets for 100% compendium as well as zoologist and skin-deep achievements! I'm on Epilogue 2 as John. This video was really helpful and easy to follow than other videos, thank you!
This guide is a gem! Worked for me on the 5th try and after repeating it a couple of times after that I think it worked even before. I think I just scared them away without realizing it. So here are my 2 cents:
As lots of other comments already suggested it, walking is VERY important. You should start at the 1st bridge the latest. These birds are very skittish and I once scared them away just by standing up (directly at the end of the 2nd bridge) so TAKE YOUR TIME. Also keep your vision on the spawn location if possible. As I said I think I sacred them a couple of times without realizing. When they are not there kill the alligators/other animals and go back behind the 1st bridge and try again. I am not sure if there is a limit on how many animals can spawn in an area, but it feels like the less other animals there are the higher the chance for the Parakeets to spawn are. And that also aligns well with the other comments posted here.
Additional small comments: when I tried it it was 3-6 pm and they spawned. The weather was nice with some clouds. Once it even was very foggy and they still spawned. I am in Epilogue 2 and the Lemoyne Raiders were at the old base and sometimes you could hear gunshots from them (NPCs). This did not scare away the parakeets, but your gunshots will! As other comments said, use dynamite to kill a lot of them quickly. I tried once if they respawn without waiting for some in-game days/reloading after you scared them, but I failed to do so. However, I just tried it once so not sure if that's the case
Found them on 10th try. But I found setting up camp outside Rhodes then save/reload to sleep more, and when you reload you are still at same came

Correction, if you save while resting at campfire then reload you'll be at the same spot
This is the ONLY tutorial that worked for me.
Went to Rhodes, clear weather ~12PM, saved, traveled to the spot and killed all alligators along the way making my way there on foot with nothing but a bow and dynamite, didn't find it.
Went back to Rhodes, slept till morning, repeated same steps and found them.
After 6+ hours of searching and relying on other tutorials...

Personal experience tip. If it didn’t work for you for the first time, just turn back to Rhodes with fast travel and take the same path to the spot. Worked for me this way.

the only problem I had was what to do when they don’t spawn
what I did was run away from the area set up camp and sleep for a few hours until you wake up with it being clear (morning or noon) then save then fast travel to rhodes ride down to the first spot then ride to the second spot the dismount and walk down to the shore line
what I did and what I think is key to getting them to spawn is as you dismount you walk the entire way and kill every croc in your path
it sounds tedious and long but actually isn’t when you do it
you can even go first person to move faster
when I did it went from clear to raining and they still spawned in the rain

Can confirm, this is legit. I spawn the flock originally above the Y in the Bayou so I could study one and kill one and then could never get them to spawn. Using this method and WALKING the entire way from the second marker to the flock location, they spawned three times for me to finish this side mission.
Which side mission? I have finished everything except this and the last 3 star moose pelt. What is the side mission called and where did you get it?

I've followed every video on RUclips on how to get them to spawn again and they just won't. Now I am trying THIS video's location on the small island. Please give me details on how you did it! Time of Day, Temperature, Weather, etc... ANY help would be very appreciated! Thanks!
@@MrStevegraf09 it's been awhile since I played but I think I did it exactly like in the video. You have to unmount your horse and WALK from the second marker to the final spot and just quietly kill the gators along the way but I can confirm this is the method that ended up working for me. I would just follow the video instructions exactly.
After an almost 2 year break, I started to play out the Completionist, so now I am on the Compendium. The last challenge was to find these bastards. You're method gave me them for the first try, thanks!

Still works jan 2021. Note that when I first got to the island there were no birds so I went back across the two bridges, skinned a couple of crocs and then returned and the birds were then on the island so there is not necessarily a need to re-load. Thanks for the vid :-)

Worked like a charm...I walked the entire time, no horse, and they were there.
Confirmed on March 17, 2021. I did exactly as the video describes: fast travel to Rhodes, ride south to the first marker, then east to the second marker (past the tree with the boat in its branches). Dismount, grab your bow and varmint rifle, and walk directly on the shoreline, killing the gators with arrows/improved arrows. I was walking the entire time, not sure if that made a difference. Weather was sunny, but there was a bunch of smoky haze near the ground. Early afternoon. May take a few tries, but I can definitely vouch for this method.
My animal compendium is complete now. 178/178 thanks to your strat here. Much appreciated!

I had an easier time hunting 18 bears for the trophy than these damn birds, all I need is to shoot 2 more of those parakeets and get one last moose pelt for the trapper and I'm done with hunting but no matter how much I try they just arent even spawning for me, so so irritating

When I was doing that survive 18 bear attacks trophy, I got to a point where the Bears wouldn't spawn LOL.
But it only lasted for a short time.

Was on the brink of giving up. But I gave it the benefit of the doubt and give this method around 10 tries (saving in Rhodes, going the shown Route and then reloading if they weren't there) and eventually they were there. Glad this one is done
Yeah they are a pain but the strange part is once you get them to spawn once it seems like you can do it over and over effortlessly. So maybe my calculations on how often My Method worked might have been a bit off when I said it works nine times out of 10.
Because all my current playthrough I was having trouble getting them to spawn but once I did they started spawning over and over just like they did when I originally created this video.
But I'm still glad that it worked for you and that you can now move on to getting the rest of the stuff in the game
What Audubon didn't know was that Arthur Morgan was paid to wipe out every last Carolina Parakeet. Sad, but money is money, boah.

I had my 100% completion safe for a while and I just started to get platinum. This helps a lot thank you and if anyone’s have a problem do exactly as they say you’re basically killing or scaring away the alligators to force the parakeets to spawn but always doesn’t work every time I got it on my first try

After trying a bunch of times here's what I did. Done during Epilogue I
Saved at Rhodes, around 6 PM. Slept til morning. Rode to the tree, dismounted, walked along the shore killing all alligators on the way. Shady Belle wasn't clear, can hear shots from there. Arrived and used binoculars, birds weren't there. Rode out to the intersection by the Lannahechee and set up camp, set up a tent and slept til morning. When I woke up I fast travelled to Rhodes, then made my way back along the shore, no alligators spawned and I could still hear the gunshots from Shady Belle. Didn't matter, found the birds in the tall grass.

Took two or three tries but it worked! Compared to trying to find them near Lagras, which is damn impossible after the first encounter with them.

Tried it once, didn’t work. So I fast traveled to Rhodes and slept for about 4 days in game ( fast traveling to Cornwall kerosene and tar in between so I could keep sleeping). Then repeated this method, dismounting my horse at the spot, walking along the coast killing the gators with my bow. Eventually got to the location and the birds were right there. Studied and blew them all up in one go with a stick of dynamite. Thanks brother

Can confirm this still works Feb 2022, PS4, Chapter 6. Tried several videos and put hours into it without seeing one. This worked on the first try. Thank you!!
This is the guide that works. The missing piece is you have to spend time in the spawn area, once they spawn they are there, but if you just run to the spawn location and they aren't there and you reload your save you are just resetting the timer. I've reloaded a bunch of times and did a run checking all the spawn areas, also just concentrating on this spawn location and the one by the apple orchid and got nothing. I went around collected orchids, eggs, and killed gators with my bow and by the time I got to the spawn they were there first try. This is chapter 4 in Shady Bell, and the 2nd time I spawned them, also spawned them in chapter 2. Now I can move on to Guarma and work on the zoo achievement.

Bro I don’t normally post. But BIG THANKS to you man. I did exactly what you said. Killed ALL gators I saw on the shoreline. And skinned them, just to take some time up. The key thing I did though was WALK. I didn’t run at all. I wasn’t even able to find ONE BIRD until I did this. Got 16 my first go round. So will have to do this again to complete. Thanks again bro!
On my second 100% playthrough. Not killing the birds yet because I want to keep the carcasses but I wanted to have Arthur’s drawing. Worked first time. Still best strategy.
i think the passenger pigeon is more interesting recently extinct bird, woulda been a way cooler mission too lol. imagine a flock of birds that takes over a day to fly over a town. think it was largest flock of bird. they flew so low u could hit multiple with one shotgun blast, and i think thats why they use “clay pigeons” now. becomes extinct by the epilogue era.

I was getting a queens orchid (chapter 4) near where the legendary gator would spawn when suddenly a massive flock of birds started flying and I was so stunned I didn’t even realize they were the parakeets until they were basically gone. Haven’t been able to get them to spawn since -_-
You should be able to get them again it might take some time and you may have to go do a few miscellaneous tasks but they will respawn at the orchard as well as the location that I show in this video
@@DeadmaN-2112 ive restarted this game about 5 times since buying it in 2019 and this was the first time ive ever seen them. Im currently trying out another persons method where you camp at the N of lemoyne and go to the orchard since the orchard and where i originally found them are right next door however no luck. I also tried your method but none spawned after about 4 or 5 tries

OMFG, It took me like 15 hours trying to do stuff from other videos, Then I decided to look for some other tips, found this video I gave it a try and at the very firts go it worked, thank you so much. Btw the time was 11am. I fast traveled from lagras to rhodes and when i was in there it was about 9am, i went on my horse all the way to the south, got my varmit rifle and my bow woth improved arrows and went killing all the alligators in the shore one by one (including the small ones) and whe i got there i ponted my varmit rifle with the scope and I saw the option to analyze the birs :) Again THANK YOU SO MUCH
Worked perfectly as soon as I started killing alligators. THAT IS KEY TO GETTING THEM TO SPAWN!! Be sure to craft Improved Arrows

Hey man, just wanted to thank you for all your efforts with this vid!
First I was skeptical, since I did what you said but they still refused to spawn after 5 attempts. I decided to read the comments and not 5 minutes ago I killed 21 in one go!
For those who read this in the future:
1. Follow the guide in this vid exactly.
2. If they still don't spawn, quick travel to strawberry.
3. Sleep for at least 72 hours, doing some hunting or stagecoach robbing while sleep cools down.
4. Teleport to Rhodes, sleep until morning and repeat from 1.
A few clarifications:
1. Parakeets will still spawn if it's foggy. Just don't let it rain.
2. Don't kill the alligator after the 2 wooden bridges. The parakeets will fly away.
3. Saving in Rhodes before setting out, will almost guarantee the Parakeets will respawn if you load the game.
I'm on my 5th run right now and 4/5 times they spawned!

Dude thank you so much man I've played this game about 10 times through and managed to find the parakeet one time in one of the other locations have tried this location many other times but coming in from the other direction this worked the very first time I tried it
Oh man…. I’ve tried 20 times no success.
I am already with 100% completion, 100% compendium, 100% gold in all missions, and that’s the only single thing missing. I am about to make alligators extinct before seeing these parakeets.
I only saw them once, studied and killed maybe 5, they spawned somewhere in the middle of the road just outside north of Saint Denis.
Since then I had no luck and I am following all the steps here :(
I wonder if outfit can have an influence here…. I’ve spent 8hs already going back and forth different locations. Damn birds
Edit: changed outfit to legend of the west. Not sure if it was just luck but then they appeared.
Walked from the 2nd marker to the spawn location and nothing (6:30am).
Went back to the market and again walked to the spawn location. This time I noticed that the crocs spawned on the way (good sign), they were not there on my first walk.
Finally I got the little bastards. Used a dinamite and got all at once. Done! 100%
Had to reload a few times but worked perfectly. I don't have the heart to kill all of them so I only got one for the compendium. Thanks for the video

LEEEEEEETS GO, I FINALLLLLLY FOUND THEM. I was so hopeless that I thought there was a bug in my game but I finally found them. The weather was good, I started walking from the first marker (where you find the panther), I killed some alligators while I was walking to the spawn location but I didn’t find the parakeets so, I returned to the alligators to skin them (alligators killed before the 2 bridges) and I came back to the spawn location and found them. Before being to close to them I used binoculars to confirm that they are there (and study them) and I used a dynamite and I killed one with a gun. I got the 25. I was lucky because at EXACTLY the same time bounty hunters were coming in front of me. Thanks for the vid man, you are the hero of many peope including me.

There’s also a neotropic cormorant spawn a few feet to the southwest of the entrance to the first bridge so you can knock that out at the same time

Worked 1st time when I went SLOWLY along the shoreline on foot. 1st few times I sprinted as fast as I could to get there and didn't work.

Can you sort of jog (hold A) or do you have to walk?
Moving quickly into the area doesn't seem to help.
Perhaps this will shed some light on why moving slowly ads to these things.

Thank you very much @DeadmaN 2112 This is one of the best tutos around all RUclips about RDR2.
In addition, I want to mention than I did this challenge:
1-first going to a far place from Rhodes and them I slept in the camp for 3-4 days (this resets all the areas in the map, not just for this time, but for every random encounter or events).
2-The second step I did: Save Your Data before you go to Rhodes with Fast Travel (This because when I saved my data in Rhodes, when I failed finding our exotic pals the game just don't process your previous sleep-time what I telled in the first step, in other words if you don't save before you fast travel to Rhodes, you miss the first step, making the hunt more difficult).
3-The final step is just to follow the instruction of this video but with an important note: Hunt the Alligators is esential, because if you don't find the birds you just need to comeback and cross the 2 wood bridges, hunt 1-2 or more Alligators and them visit one more time the birds.
Trust the information of all the people here and this one.

at the place where the birds spawn, i sleep the max i can until i cant sleep
i save and reload
i again, sleep the max i can,
i fast travelled to lagras,
set up camp
saved and reloaded bc couldn’t sleep still,
slept the max/ if the max was bad weather then i just reloaded and slept until it was clear.
fast travelled to rhodes
saved
rode to the first point, then second
i dismounted and grabbed my varmint rifle and bow and went into first person
i WALKED in first person the entire way, dont run.
i took out all the alligators on the way and skinned a few
went across the bridges and went to the place he went to, i threw a stick of dynamite in the middle of them but also prepared my varmint immediately after the dynamite left my hand, shot like 2 bringing the total to like 18 killed, and then i just repeated.
it works.
i noticed that the hideout at shady bell can be an issue if not cleared because of the gunshots so clear them out and start from the start of this comment. and make sure that the weather is good. i may have gone extra lengths but it still worked after like 3 hours of not having ANY luck even spawning them.
I am so happy that clicked in om this video, if I didn't i would probably not find these birds, great video!!!!!

Worked so well. I got 23 in my first run because they started circling instead of flying away, allowing me to refill my dead eye, study them, then kill most of them rest. Now I'm hoping for 2 more.
They'll show up back there again, although it may take a few tries.
I found them a few times flying in a flock above the shack although I've never seen them start circling above the shack after shooting them.

Still works like a charm in May 2023. I'm at the beginning of chapter two, 3-4 missions in. I needed 3 tries to get them all, but just waiting long enough between tries, and walking the whole way seemingly did the trick for me. Tried running carefully a few times, they didn't spawn then. Also killed all the crocs, don't know whether this matters (they weren't really in my way) but this was again a common denominator for the times the parakeets did spawn. And the last round when I got the last ones it started raining when I approached the swamps, and they still sat there waiting.

Ho-ly SHIT. THIS ACTUALLY WORKED! They spawned quite easily for me the first time near the "Y" of Bayou a couple of (real life) days ago but I still had half of them left to kill after that. I looked for HOURS, no method I tried did a damn thing-until I found THIS video. Followed your exact steps, it was around 12 pm, and they spawned on the first try. During the walk there the weather actually went from clear to cloudy as well so the little hope I had at that point pretty much went straight out the window, BUT they were there! This was my second time hunting them, first on console, now on PC. I wish I'd known your method all the way from the start. Thank you so much, good sir!!! This is by far the most helpful tutorial I've used for this game altogether. The info regarding the birds at the start and what inspired R* to add this small, secretive quest was an interesting read as well.
For anyone wondering, you don’t need to do this whole process, just sneak up to that exact spot where he found them and fire a shot off so you could pick them all clean with deadeye, I finished this mission in one go, Thanks for the vid bro!! 🤘🏼🤩
You sir are a bloody solid gold 24 carat stud! Decided on this my second playthrough to 100% both the game and the compendium, and surprise surprise what’s left at the end, the Parakeet. I knew it was coming, so from literally chapter 3 onwards I would occasionally go and look in all the spots the websites and videos say there are... nothing, zilch. Finally in the first part of the freaking epilogue do I come across this video and after a couple of attempts doing as you say the bastards finally revealed themselves, many thanks 🍻

Lol I’m on my fourth play through and I found out about them in my late first play through and in my current play through I found them as soon as I entered the swamp as you usually do and I was able to quickly study and kill almost all of them I have about 10 or so left they circled in the air above me so that’s how I was able to quickly study them and kill more than I already had

This method works! I can also confirm the following: you can approach the spot from point no.2 in 1st person, it is much faster. If you don't need to study the bird, just throw unstable dynamite to the location of the flock. Your honor doesn't decrease. I was able to finish off the remaining 13 birds with one dynamite.
Did you do this as arthur? Im trying during chapter 4 with camp at shady belle and all i get are gators or larger birds
I never attempted to do this during chapter 4 and perhaps having the gangs camp at that location is causing an issue with this.
Although that's just a guess.

Worked Aug 2022. I followed this after the typical frustrations of other guides etc (id killed 19 and forgot to study them). What i found was if you are turning up and cant find them waste every alligator on your approach because they definitely seemed to suddenly appear after id wasted the ones around the hut. i went back to where he tells you to fist get off your horse and make a camp, sleep, then the dead alligators will still be there and the ground should have some near the tree by the hut.
in summary: Good luck yall, this guide was crucial to me finding them but kill the alligators, go far enough away and sleep the minimum and come back to find them!

I'm not sure you can get 25 perfect ones to spawn at the same time.
You might be able to go there and get a few to be perfect kill them, then leave and return to the area and get more to spawn but I've never seen 25 perfected, at the same time

With good news and bad news, I have realized that this location is absolutely cracked - worked for me on the first try, which I'm very happy about. Though, I have also come to realize that they don't all come in 3 stars, meaning I can't really get 25 of them perfectly without having to manually hand-pick the perfect ones from not, which would be absolute insanity.
I've come to the conclusion that I'll leave the rest of these guys alone..

It worked at my first try after several hours of looking for them in other locations and in this location but without following your route and steps...it even rained for a small bit just when i was approaching the first wooden bridge but still i found them there. Thank you so much dude.
Lemoyne raiders keep firing shots at shady belle, I think it scared the birds
I'm pretty sure I've completed it even when the Raiders are there at Shady Belle.
But I'm not a hundred percent certain on that.
If you believe that they are disturbing the birds you could always clear the gang hideout.
November 1st 2021 on PC this still works. To add more information, I parked my horse where the video said to and then RAN to the first wooden bridge (walked around thereafter). Didn't bother killing all the nearby gators, in fact I even shot some and they ran away because I sucked XD. Couldn't see the parakeets, but sure enough when I walked over to their island they spawned. (I only had four left, and only four spawned, so this works even when the population is dwindling.) Thank you so much!
It works!! I was playing as john so yes they do spawn after the story. I have spent hours hunting this bird. I have been all over this swap looking for this little bird! So i would ride to the marker turn around go across the bridges ride to the first tree nd go back over the bridges back to the marker. I had to sleep 4 times to make it happen but it works!

3/Feb/2023 and it still works, i did the same thing that its explained on the video, it took me like 6 or 7 tries, i really recomend to take in mind these tips of other coments
1.- If it doesn't spawn run away from the area set up camp (or go to the camp i did this in chapter 4) and sleep for a few hours i usually slept til morning (6am)
2.- the weather has to be CLEAR or FOGGY, then fast travel to rhodes, save the game and ride down to the first spot then ride to the second spot (the second tree that doesn't have the boat) then dismount and WALK down to the shore line and then WALK to the marked place, remember to carry the bow and the vermint. i did it at 10am (game time). I was able to find them at a number of locations.
However, there were a few locations where I found them more often than others.
Right near the dam by Owanjila, and the large waterfall north of Brandywine drop.
Brandywine drop is at the top right-hand side of the map, and it is actually a waterfall itself, but there's an even bigger waterfall north of that.
You can actually even find them at Brandywine drop, but it's a bit harder.
Give me one second, and I'll link to a video regarding a horse that was later added to the game, and in that video, while trying to get the horse, I came across a moose as well.

Like I said before, in this video I was actually at Brandywine drop but the waterfall that I was referring to in my previous comment are the ones that are even further north than this. It's the one that the railroad tracks goes across up near the shack that's tucked in the far back corner.
All I would do is ride very slowly in and out of the area until the Moose would spawn.

It should give you much better odds.
Remember to take your time while approaching the area.
Many players keep reporting that the key to this is eliminating the alligators.
Although I have to say I've had them spawn even with the alligators.
For me the biggest Factor was taking my time as I approached the area.
When you do eliminate the alligators make sure you do so with a bow and improved arrows.
Even kill the ones out in the water.
With that said it's also important to note they could possibly be found at this location only they maybe flying.

It was actually luck.
The way it happened was I found the birds at that location once then something happened and I had to reload from an older save.
When I went back to look for them they weren't there.
So I reloaded the save again and tried to recreate the exact steps that I did the first time and when I did, it work.
So I tried it again and got the same results.
Thinking that I might be onto an actual method that works repeatedly...
I asked several friends to give it a try and they said it happened on the first attempt.
So like I said it was Pure Luck.
But I'm glad this method has worked out for so many people because I know how frustrating it can be to look for them repeatedly and not come across them.

As someone trying to find my first Carolina Parakeet after 100%-ing this game, the only way I could get this strategy to work after around 15 failed attempts was:
1. Wipe out the gang at Shady Belle
2. Fast travel far away (e.g. Tumbleweed)
3. Save, quit and reboot the game
4. Setup a campsite, sleep 'til morning, then fast travel to Rhodes
5. Complete the above video, with the key strategy being to progress along the shore slowly (skin every gator, kill all gators in the water, kill snakes, etc)
I only killed five Parakeets on my first attempt (was attempting to get perfects with the bow). Then I fast travelled to Rhodes, and reattempted the video strategy, but the gang at Shady Belle had respawned, so I couldn't find more birds until I repeated from my step 1.

I thought to myself “this is stupid” and went to the spot directly but nothing and affects several tries I thought f-it let’s try this method so i did and when I looked in the grass I thought “see it doesn’t work there’s nothing here” then i found something and it said “bird” and gave a study option and I thought “there’s no way that’s the actual bird I’m after” and jt was and it got soo shook!

Chapter 2? Many make starter saves ASAP in Ch.2 with Arthur. I have never seen these Carolina parakeets. I have the journal to record such sightings (they are sketched after extinction, apparently). NB: You don't get any trophy/achievement from the Carolina parakeet, or anything towards 100% - you only finish the needless extinction quest, get a compendium entry, and a journal entry sketch.
Been looking to do this for ages now, tried the y under bayou and got em to spawn once, never again, tried this on my first go and it worked a charm, currently sleeping the 4 days to get the rest of em...thanks for this its perfect and legit....even after all this time lol...
