  • In this video I show you guys what I believe to be the best online mail order nurseries for figs. I've ordered from them all, I know the sizes, prices and who has authentic stock unlike most sources. These are the best!

There are a few online nurseries that I can’t deny are a good investment, BUT the two most productive trees that I own came from a big box store and another unpopular online nursery that was not mentioned. Also an unknown that was a gift. You never know...but this is a good list put together by Ross. Although for quality, you can’t beat some of the cuttings sold by forum members.

Great video! Totally agree; all 4 are nice online options for acquiring a fig collection. I've had good experiences with all 4.

Hello, look, I have only one productive one, it is already 15 years old and it is very productive, it is Kadota commercial, it is also pure honey, I bought it at Lowes and it all depends on the care you give it. The most important thing is to be happy with what you have, even if it is one. But unbelievably, it is the most used in Greece to make jams, I also do, because it gives me a lot of fruit and I add it to the jam of fig amareto and pecans when I am cooking the fig, it is a delicacy with Brie cheese and its French cookies.

Hi Ross, I was hoping you could make a video on fertilizing. What do you use, how and when you use it. Thanks for all your videos.

      For potted fruit trees...
      Fertilizer:
Cheapest way is to get an inorganic slow release. Florikan or Osmocote. Plus you want some kind of liquid fert (doesn't really matter what it is), but for optimal growth I recommend going with Alaska Fish Fertilizer + some slow release that's also organic with mycorrhizae within. It's the best for sure, but too expensive for someone like me with 200+ containers.
In addition you want to add in some lime or gypsum to your containers, rock phosphate at the bottom of the container & greensand or ironite for more micronutrients. Again you can find organic alternatives there for optimal performance. Top with worm castings and mulch of your choosing.
This year I'm also experimenting with rice hulls and diatomaceous earth to add some silicon to my soil.
      Soil:
Must be organic. Not because I'm for organic gardening, but because any soil you buy that's inorganic is going to be junk. You can't synthetically create soil like you can fertilizer. In addition to this.. anything that's not bark, rice hulls, compost (avoid manures and mushroom compost) or worm castings is honestly inferior & unsustainable.

Hi Ross just checked out fruits and exotics website very good. If you're going to eat Concorde grapes with the seeds in them just swallow the seeds they will not harm you.

I have been to Rolling River Nursery aka Planting Justice in person here in SF bay area. They have lots of stuff they don't post online such as tropicals. Believe it or not, I went inside a greenhouse on the property and saw what was labeled as "Black Madera" instead of the usual "Black Madeira". They basically mean the same. So I went with my gut and purchased two small ones in 2 16oz cups.
