I recently came across the Retevis RA89. It's IP68 if I remember correctly. It'd be great to hear your thoughts on it and perhaps even a comparison with the Alinco DJ-VX50.
just disassembled my Commountain, surprisingly internal build quality is much better than my old TYT. with that said, the sound appear to be too dull to my ears, and indeed there's a low-pass filter circuitry. I"ll try to modify the filter to be less strict, then I guess it'll be a great speaker-mic.
What are your thoughts On Medium duty and heavy duty speaker Mics from Raytalk Like the Raytalk RSM-350 medium duty ip67 Speaker Mic and The Raytalk RSM-400W and RSM-401 and RSM-402 Heavy duty Ip67 Speaker Mics any thought Scott @KS6DAY
I understand the feeling that Commountsin is an OEM supplier. But I am not entirely certain. The reason for that (and for my giving them the edge over the BTech) is because they supply mics for a number of different radios that you generally don't see 3rd party mics for. I personally use one for my Vertex EVX534, and I know they make mics for Motorola C, GP and HT series and Kenwood TK and NX series radios. My TK380 mic is going bad so I have a Commountain mic on my list to replace it. I admit I don't have a K plug mic, in general I can't stand them. Not the mic itself, if it's as well built as their Vertex mic it would be a great value. But the preamp POP all K series mics seem to give....i know it doesn't bother most people but it irritates me, especially with an earpiece in. This happens on Baofeng, Radioddity and TIDRadio radios as well as the Quansheng, and I heard it from your Wouxon, so I assume it's a fault of the K socket design and not simply a "cheap Chinese radio" issue. That aside, I have a similar Radioddity mic, which is the best K plug mic I have, and the Commountain has a thicker cable and is substantially heavier. If the loud pop doesn't bother you the Commountain is the way to go for a K Plug, or really any plug for thst matter... A good $10 cheaper than a Kenwood TK series mic and half to a 3rd the price of a Moto.
Short of permanent mounting with epoxy? I don't believe so because at the end of the day you are still plugging something into the internals of the radio and that will create an ingress vector. That's why for the most part commercial grade IP67 radios (and even Baofeng's WP radios) use a pogo pin adapter.
Am I the only person who can't find a speaker mic that sounds as good as the internal mics in most HT's? Put IP rating, cable strain relief, and other build quality factors aside for a moment... do any of these speaker mics actually sound good, with no annoying resonant peaks, some immunity to plosives and other breathwind noise, and nice extension in the highs? The much-loved Kenwood mil-spec has two resonances, especially on RX, one from the case overall, and one from the slats in the grill all being the same dimensions. A Yaesu speaker mic I just bought has an enormous peak on TX at about 3.2K that stations complain about without me asking them for an audio report. The larger Commountain speaker mic resonates on RX and TX at about 700 Hz. Could I put something in the shell to dampen that resonance? I tried soft foam but had no luck. I would pay hansomely for a speaker mic whose plastic shell didn't resonate a ton. Electret elements that sound more than good enough for our needs are literally pennies. It's all a matter of the housing, at least that I can determine.
Surprisingly, the Anytone-branded speaker mic sounds quite good, but the build quality is terrible. The PTT stopped working on mine almost immediately.
Hello I have a set of Btech FRSA1 sticking with FRS for now, plan on using them for neighborhood watch and need a mic and headset that works well also. Based on this vid I might get the Btech mic, have Gloryfire headset on way also, but your headset in your profile would be good for when wearing hats and hot days, AND I'M left handed so is there a headset like in your profile you can recommend that I could pair with the Btech FRSA1 and a PTT?
U pretty good but try not to chase that proverbial chicken around the barn yard to many times! Meeting-get to the point- WE HAVE A LIFE TO!! *But U did GOOD! I have btech mic coming in tomorrow and I needed to hear what it sounds like! To me it's GREAT! It sounded like I was In A SOUND PROOF BOOTH ! * Just me and MR. MIC - UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL- of course just my PERSONAL OPINION- AND THANKS FOR THAT!!! and I did give you a thumbs up 👍
the btech is a generic motorola clone, commountain uses a custom mould you can tell from the logo area, the btech has a little round indentation for where the motorola logo would go
I like the BTech mic's sound a little more, but it is more prone to plosives. Here how the Commountain sounds "boxy"? I'm not sure why you would call that "richer".
Commountain has a nice punch to it. Nice bass on the sound.
Perfect timing for a video. Been debating on both of these for my 878uv2+
The btech sounds Lounder on transmitting and Reciving and a bit clearer then the commontain from what I can tell from the audio tests 12:00
indeed sounds a bit dull, there's a low pass filter in the Commountain that needs some modification imo, then it should sound great.
Great observation @@EvgeniX.
great video on the speaker Mike. having a good speaker Mike is a great idea.

USB-c charge too

I am not familiar with the Raytalk brand. Where did you get yours from?

Is there a way to waterproof k-plugs? Lots of IP 67 radios have k-plug accessory connections, which remove the waterproofing when used.
Same question
not reliably
