I like this man. He's so passionate about mathematics, and he seems to have maintained a sense of wonder about not only his field but also the world around him. Great video :)
BlunderCity Wow a mathematician in the government. I wish I could say that about my country, but at best we have are probably engineers or business majors, while the majority are even more uneducated.
I love his intermittent nods to himself. He gives off an air of having thought through exactly what he wants to say and meaning it with his whole heart.
Cédric Villani is one of the few people who inspire me to pursue on the road of mathematics. to know that there are people out there who are living their passion, which is also my passion, just feels extraordinary. I always love it when he talks.
Attended a public lecture by Cédric Villani last week, the experience was mesmerizing. The ease with which he explained his field of work to everyone was laudable. He's admirably humble for someone so accomplished
His book is so fantastic, It's filled with stories and anecdotes. It's not just "How I got a Fields Medal" it's more a glimpse of Mathematicians world, how do they works, how do they communicate with each other who are some amous mathematicians and why are they famous... it's a great book
Not sure if you read your RUclips comments, Brady, but I would just like to say I'm increasingly impressed by the amount of fascinating, extraordinary and fantastic people you feature on this channel. What a incredible circle of friends you have. Please more of Cedric, Tadashi and Matt Parker!
I could listen to this captivating genius and never become bored. He exudes pure brilliance in the most Willie Wanka verses Alexander Grothendieck sort of way. Thanks for a another great video.
It is really beautiful to see these videos,as well as the other channels(sixty symbols, periodic videos, computerphile).I see people full of wonder about what they do.They took things that most people in our society find boring and found the magic that is contained within them. This year I will begin studying to become a physicist.I hope that the fire that burns within me,the thirst for knowledge and the feeling of wonder that I get when learning about these beautiful sciences never leaves me,I hope that one day I will be just a percentage as successful as the men and women in your videos.Thank you for making all these videos.
He has a very characteristic appearance as well as accent. He has a large and mythical collection, including a set of currently inanimate superspiders. His surname is a thinly veiled anagram for villain. People, this is actually the one. This is real life's Final Boss.
+Antimony For the long answer, listen to all of the Hello Internet podcast. For the short answer, CGP Grey likes minimalism for where he lives and works, as he thinks that "stuff" is a distraction.

I had the opportunity with another 100 students to hear him give us a conference on his works right after he won the Fields medal, kinda overwhelming :)
One video of this guy is all that I have watched and these are my thoughts on Cedric- Awesome Name. Looks like an 18th century piano composer. Passionate about mathematics and the world around him. Calm mind and soothing speech. Awesome spider obsession.
Please no... he likes the symbol of integral? You made me cry. 😭 That integral symbol coming in frame and when he made me realised it, I grasped to let the fear of it come out.
I'm amazed and impressed that he went into politics. He kind of shuts down all the questions about the accuracy of your budget. "We object to your budget proposal. There is no evidence that this kind of spending is sustainable." Villani whips out some chalk. Draws integral sign on board. "Let me show you the evidence."
I found this to be quite interesting. We each have our own way of working, and it's interesting to see how others organise themselves. For me, that kind of environment would be distracting, whereas for others it's a source of inspiration and a memory-jogger.
Often you can tell the state of a person's mind by how they keep their work space. I see a mind here full of many different topics, all at the ready to be explored.
I didn't expect an actual video about a mathematician's office... The 'the' in the title suggested that's some kind of scientific term - haha, well, interesting nontheless. Kind of at least...
Clifford stoll and Cedric Villani( i like how his name is just a rearrangement of the word "villain" whcih perfectly describes how he looks) are so fcking cool
I had two math professors, who when I went into their offices to get help they didn't really want me being there. Like "if you want to hang out go somewhere else"
I began listening to Cathrine Ribeiro after reading his book, 'Birth of a Theorem'. Haha... Also, I'll never forget Faa di Bruno's formula because of his book also. Great thinker. :P
i think, that dark blue croshet thing can be made by doing significant more than 6 increases every round (after starting with this number of stitches in the beginning ring). i wonder, what it will look like, if you do two of them, crochet their edges together with an extra round and stuff it with toy-stuffing just before finishing this round.
This guy just calms me. I can't quite explain it. Just know he exists is this nice feeling.
I had the EXACT same feeling. I love this man's voice and what he says.
r/unintentionalASMR
He must be some kind of wizard. He makes English sound so elegant. Exquisite.
Mi Lia he's frensh that must be why
So like Bob Ross?
It stuns me how eccentric he is. Hipsters have nothing on this guy. Great mathematician as well.
I like this man. He's so passionate about mathematics, and he seems to have maintained a sense of wonder about not only his field but also the world around him. Great video :)
+GengarMarmalade thanks. He's a top guy.
Villani
Villain
His betrayal will be sudden but inevitable
Just like Wash's dinosaur
+UriGerhard I would love to hear him say "Mine is an evil laugh!" in his soft voice and French accent. XD
@GengarMarmalade I was thinking exactly this just before I read your comment
This is who I imagine when I think of mathematician.
+Alessandro Verzasconi Wdym he's wrong?? That's who he thinks of how could that fact be proven wrong lol. Unless u know what he imagines...
so true.
Golol cohan No, this is the ideal.
And can you imagine that he's now a member of the French parliament? We have a strange government right now... and I like it!
BlunderCity Wow a mathematician in the government. I wish I could say that about my country, but at best we have are probably engineers or business majors, while the majority are even more uneducated.
He's gonna freak out when he spots that spider on his coat...
I was so scared that I had to stop watching the vid :^)
that spider is not real
+Banama Really? :O
Banama
What? You gotta be kiddin' me.
that's what it wants you to think
Which pokemon gym does this guy lead?
all of them
He's on of the elite 4 of all elite 4s
The bug gym obviously
To me, he seems like the kind who'd lead an Earth gym, but then again his brooch tells a different story.
Hes def mystic. klein bottle guy is probably instinct, and I think Mat is Valor.
Best finger snap ever

Come come Mr. Bond, you like differential equations as much as I do
Attended a public lecture by Cédric Villani last week, the experience was mesmerizing. The ease with which he explained his field of work to everyone was laudable. He's admirably humble for someone so accomplished
I love seeing some flashy scientists like this man. They're my favorites. And the way he speaks of mathematics is just charming.
Prof. Villani is such the perfect archetype of the eccentric genius that it he seems more of a character than a real person.
His book is so fantastic, It's filled with stories and anecdotes. It's not just "How I got a Fields Medal" it's more a glimpse of Mathematicians world, how do they works, how do they communicate with each other who are some amous mathematicians and why are they famous... it's a great book
What's the name of the book
Did you watch the video?
Birth of a theorem
Ayoub El « Théorème Vivant », in French. I read this recently, and it’s impressive!
@@babywhalecrypto1346 there is a numberphile interview on that too.
I love his collection of stuff. He needs a Klein bottle, though. Klein bottles are cool.
And some pizza and an electric ruler
yes! Brady should get him one from "the Klein bottle guy"!
That would be an epic meeting. Klein Bottle Guy and French Cookies & Cream Guy.
+
I know just the guy who could hook him up
I like this kind of video, showing how successful people live, how they introduce their world to people
+Seyhan thank you
+Numberphile very cool idea
Hey Numberphile, please could you do more great videos like this. It's very interesting to see how and where mathematicians work.
+Haaris Siddique we will
+Numberphile
Please ask for an interview with Peter Scholze.
You can just feel his love and passion for his work. Is a joy watching him.

What a beautiful, wonderful soul. If he has time, bring us more Cédric Villani! I could watch an infinite number of videos with him.
This guy oozes charisma even though he probably doesn't want it.
Why would anyone not want charisma. Maybe you don't care about out but there's reason to actively not want it
He should've been my math teacher in my 8th grade year of middle school.
@@fyukfy2366 Well I wager he meant to say he doesn't want the attention for it, he's a humble fellow
I'm almost finished his book Birth of a Theorem and this is exactly how I imaged his office to look like based on his writing.
This man came to my uni while I was a freshman. Love his passion for mathematics. He made me love math even though it wasn't my major.
Cedric Villani! I love this man he made a lecture in my university in Saudi I was so happy

He spoke in one of my most favorite TED Talks videos. He has so much passion for math, it is beautiful.
I am just so happy this guy exists
wow, this was one of my favorite episodes
M. Villani has a captivating personality yet seems quite humble. I'm very pleased when he is on the channel.
Cedric is such a cool guy and a villain at the same time refering to his look :D
***** Indeed! :D

If you listen very carefully, you can hear the sound of a thousand cgp grey souls screaming in agony.
that just made my day
Why?
So true.
+Antimony For the long answer, listen to all of the Hello Internet podcast. For the short answer, CGP Grey likes minimalism for where he lives and works, as he thinks that "stuff" is a distraction.
stuff often just becomes part of the environment if you dont think about the stuff to much. Stuff becomes walls and floors.
Happy to see my beloved Cameroon being talked about. Thanks for your service
It's been a rough and busy week at work, but this guy's voice kind of smoothes everything out.

He does mathemagic, he's a mathemagician! :3
specialty in complex incantations.
the kind that requires a big thick dusty book to break.
Nah he looks like Willy Wonka ^^
And now, this impressive mathematician is also a deputy in France
Yep! It's a strange time in French politics right now and I like it. Half of MPs representing Macron's party are non politicians. It's refreshing!
And maybe the future mayor of Paris. He announced his candidature a few weeks ago ;)
