Don't spend stupid money on expensive exhaust systems. We did a 1 and 3/4 inch inner pipe with a 2 inch overhead pipe on the stock mufflers on my 996. This thing sounds AMAZING !! Neighborhood friendly at 4000 rpms. At 4500 rpms she comes ALIVE !! At and above 4500 rpms she sounds like she is on the track.. Absolutely Awesome Porsche Exhaust Sound !! I'm So Glad I did it and saved a ton on money. You should hear this thing in a tunnel or under a bridge. AWESOME !! Also; at 6th gear highway speeds under 4000 rpms there is no drone. It sounds SO good. So peaceful~~Very enjoyable..
This is good YT stuff! It’s obviously very difficult to capture the sounds with real accuracy, but by recording such a varied selection samples, we get the message! Great job Jay!
Nice video comparison Jay. Not easy to do these types of videos. Very nicely edited. Best I’ve seen of any 996 exhaust compare. Agree with your comments too. Looking forward to next one 👍
Thanks a lot, Toby! Yes, it’s hard to capture the drama of an exhaust on video - far better in person - but I hope it gives people an indication if not ‘solving’ the problem.
Awesome Jay- all other exhaust reviews need to take notes. Rapid alternation between the two exhaust systems is required for adequate comparison. Bravo!
Very well done comparison, Jay! This gives us all the side-by-side info we need. It is clear you put a lot of thought into this and I'll be anxious to see how the other exhausts stack up in the weeks to come. I like my OE exhaust but in the event that I ever need a new one, this will be my go-to reference!
Very enjoyable watching you react. But I will tell you that a free years ago when I was driving a C6 Corvette I invested in Corsa cat back exhaust to give the car a truly beautiful, throaty sound and it did not disappoint. The thing is, a few months later I felt a little foolish. All that money just to draw attention to the car (mine, and that of other drivers). I’m over it.
Looking forward to the next video! I've been on the hunt for a 911 996 for quite some time, and one of the things I would be want to upgrade is the standard exhaust, so this is very informative!
Good to consider there’s a basic difference in stock exhaust sound between .1 and .2 996. In case you might not know. .2 stock sounds already a lot better than an .1. I own a 996.1 with Gemballa exhaust. Decent and raw beyond 4.000rpm. Think it’s no longer for sale. Enyoi owning a 996 in the near future!
Love the series and gives a good comparison of exhaust tone. A decibel reading for each exhaust would have been a good addition to see how much louder each exhaust is over stock.
Wonderful comparison Jay! Can’t wait to hear the rest. I loved the sounds of the first one on idle and when you stepped on it but i couldn’t deal with the droning! Thank you for bringing this to us👍🏻
Fantastic work, Jay. I’ve had exhaust upgrades on various vehicles turn out either too aggressive, or too quiet. That Tubi has a beautiful start-up and mid-range sound…..just need more of it. Maybe pair it with a different x-pipe while the piggy bank is open?
I have Dansk silencers, and for me I hear the main difference when my windows are lowered? I'll be interest in the next part to find out which you settle on! As a side note, I completely ruined my BMW E30 M3 with a stupidly droning exhaust that made the car horrible on any journey on an A-Road or Motorway 😟
Cheers Nick! That’s weird because a large part of my conclusion here is that I am buying an exhaust for other people! I agree though, you have to be careful. Drone is really important. Note for all those thinking they can handle a muffler delete!
I’ve been bingeing videos, and wondered what your final thoughts were after selecting the Cargraphic muffler and then living with it for a while. Good choice? Regrets on not going with Fabspeed setup? I’m wrestling with the same issues for my 996 Cab, so I was curious about your thoughts after having lived with it for a while…before selling it(!!)
Thank you for watching! Hope you’re enjoying them. Honestly, I totally loved the Cargraphic set up. The sound was truly wonderful and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. The Fabspeed Maxflo just wasn’t loud enough. The Supercup would likely have been better but then would I have wanted that the whole time? The Cargraphic allowed me to switch the noise off when I wanted. So yes, very happy. BTW, I wasn’t and am still not sponsored by anyone.
Thanks for the info. The videos have been particularly pertinent for me, since I’ve currently got a very nice 996, along with a decent 986 that I’m hoping to get to “very nice” status. Several of your 986 projects are on the To Do list for mine.
@@TheRhodes2 my pleasure! The aim of this channel is to chat and share ideas and experiences. Stick around! More coming including this week: my 986 has now got a lovely new convertible top with glass and some new leather! Thanks again for watching!
The shame for me was that you're saying the delete (system ) was too much but through the speakers it sounded nice! Obviously one of the difficulties of trying to record sounds accurately.
Ha! Well, yes it’s a great sound from the outside. It’s quite drony from the inside. As I said, it was fun for about 10 minutes. If you were faced with a 9 hour drive (as I often am) then I think I’d be ready to hit someone when I got out at my destination.
Thank you very much! Glad you liked it! You might like Episode 1 and 3 (3 is coming this Friday) too! The link to the exact product is in the video description. Fabspeed and Cargraphic on Friday so stay tuned!
Idk, the smile on your face should be all you need to make your decision. But I understand trying to avoid looking a “certain” way with a loud exhaust. However, you only live once my friend👍
No, not from the muffler. The pops come from when unburned fuel hits the exhaust and tends to happen more often when you have a wider pipe with less pushback. We didn’t do anything with the headers or pipe during this video just the mufflers.
@@JAYREAD Got it. I have a recently purchased 2013 C4S 991.1 with stock mufflers but with sport chronograph. Looking to get pops and bangs. Any thoughts. Been following your 928 too. I had several years ago.
@BillDunnuck Happy to help! Try Soul Performance and get one of their valved exhaust for the 991.1. LOTS of pops and bangs there! They’re all created by fiddling with the fuel mixture but it does sound terrific. Yeah, the 928 has a few mild pops and bangs now but not through any electronic trickery, just by using a 3 inch pipe!

Here’s the thing, the whole project is limited by the speakers on whatever device you are listening to it. Muffler delete sounds more like a Ferrari than a 996 , prefer the stock setup. Tubi is not to bad very surprised! What's the cost involved?
Any noticable increase in HP?
Tubi was $1,920 and, no, no real noticeable power increase on that one. Maybe a bit more poke on the muffler delete but not so you’d notice.

Cool, can you do the same with a turbo? Its even more damped than the carreras, would love to hear it clearer (not louder) 😎✌
