Biggest differences functionally is that this adds support for dolby atmos to netflix which they didn't have on the regular 4k stick. They also added a very nice hdmi arc feature where if you plug this into your HDMI ARC port and you have say your echo studio or 2 paired up with it they will now work with say your cable box or bluray player which is a very cool feature so they're not just locked to the fire tv, well they are but they're more functional now. This feature isn't available on their other streaming devices not even on the firecube as far as I'm aware.
The fire tv 2nd gen flat box is the best device they ever put out. Already had spots to plug in ethernet, hdmi, SD card ect without having to by extra dongles and attachments. And it supports 4k. It came out 5 years ago with specs ahead of its time. They should have made a 3rd generation with faster frame rate 4k with a faster processor and more storage. That would blow anything else they have out of the water. That's the only thing I would ever upgrade to from Amazon streaming devices. BRING A 3RD GEN FIRE TV PLEASE!!!!!
Got a refurb 4K Max for $30.00. Works fine. The main reason I changed from 4K to 4K max is the ease of adding storage. All done for you by the Fire Stick not all the messy stuff needed to add space on the 4K.
This thing is amazing. I bought two, the speed, picture quality and ability to side-load leaves my Panasonic Smart TV for dead. Best streaming device I've owned (and I've owned a LOT).

Hey there, I have been using Roku, and Apple TV as my primary streamers for quite a few years now. However, I have wanted to explore Fire TV to see what it's like over the other two. Would the 4k stick Max, be a good option for local streaming such as Plex, and full quality Blu-ray rips over the other models? They are high bitrate files and typically take a lot to work reliably (that's why I hard wire my network whenever possible) for the best results. With that in mind, the cube might be a better option for my setup, but how does the max stick do with demanding tasks besides gaming ? Thanks, thought the review was done well.
@@pavvyyyd8476 I had to go back and read my initial comment because I didn't remember what I had written since it's been a while. Anyway, I didn't get a Fire TV product, I got the Shield TV Pro instead. It does audio passthrough so I can have the same audio format that I would playing from disc. Most streamers don't support this, so that's one thing that sets the Shield apart from others. So far, it's been a positive experience. The only extra step I needed to do was to buy an Audio extractor to put between the sound bar's out back to TV so I can change the audio format going back to the TV so the TV won't complain about unsupported audio formats as the Sound bar is capable of playing lossless audio (including Atmos, and DTS:X.) It can still be a bit picky but it's not usually a hard fix, mainly set the extractor, after playing content, stop content, and restart content, and everything is fine. The reason for this is the extractor has no memory of settings, and goes to sleep when idle, so, it's a few extra steps to play locally streamed lossless content for me, but it's stable when it's set. The other option I have is to use the 4K Blu-ray Player which has Dual HDMI outs so, the audio is physically separated from video, but it doesn't support local streaming of specific audio codecs. So that's why I went the Shield route, as it supports anything,. Apple TV works well for non 3D audio being played back as 5.1 PCM, but can't pass lossless Atmos, or DTS:X.
when i use my fire stick 4 k max my tv is switched to hdmi 2 , when i shut down the fire stick and select hdmi 1 for regular tv i have picture but no sound , very frustrating !

The Fire TV 4K Max replaces the Cube and is nearly 2x the power of the regular TV 4K with double the RAM & Storage!
Just snagged two of these for 50 bucks what a steal
Unfortunately, the Apple TV app doesn’t allow in-app purchases on Fire TV at this time. Anyone know why? I find this very annoying.
Question………..

Hey there,
I have been using Roku, and Apple TV as my primary streamers for quite a few years now.
I’ve been using an Apple TV aswell but since I’ve seen this now I’m thinking of upgrading due to the 4K.. interesting
Apple TV works well for non 3D audio being played back as 5.1 PCM, but can't pass lossless Atmos, or DTS:X.
does it have UK English as a language option?
when i use my fire stick 4 k max my tv is switched to hdmi 2 , when i shut down the fire stick and select hdmi 1 for regular tv i have picture but no sound , very frustrating !
