Yet another 2 weeks in lockdown here in Melbourne with 4 days off work what do do what to do, I know I'll watch Englishman in Malta 😅. Thanks for your videos mate you are the best vlogger in Malta by far and always a pleasure to watch. Keep up the great work mate.
Interesting video Steve, enjoyed it 😀there was once a runway on Gozo , remember seeing a documentary about it a while ago, world war 2 when the allies were planning an attack on Scilly a temporary runway was quickly made to hold the extra planes . Great job Steve, enjoying the videos 👍
BTW Steve, meant to mention that noise of a passing old plane ✈ @ 8:30. I was waiting for you to pan on it, but you didn't 🤔 - "nice touch of 'added' sound effects, a magnificent Spitfire flypast " ✈ 💣 🔊 🎥 🏆 👏 😂. Cheers 👍 🇲🇹 ♥ 🇪🇺.
Thank you Steve for your great videos ,I use to hear my father telling us stories around that place,he use work as a labourer for the R A F dispose of bombs near Filfla and so on ,a lot of the places you go I ve never been .The saint is San Niklaw ,is it not St Nicolas in English?.
You were in Siggiewi Steve :-) it's RAF Krendi yes but now I think it forms part of Siggiewi. It's the chapel of San Niklaw. Beautiful (and still a little quiet) area. You should go towards Kappella ta' San Gwann Evangelista area between Mqabba and Zurrieq. I think the park you mentioned was Wied Fulija
Thanks for the info!, Yes it was Wied Fulija, I was low battery and google maps was playing up ...But now I am clued up where it is ..Going to try next week I forget how big Siggiewi stretched
Wow, never knew of this, all our years coming to Malta nobody ever said about it, I never read about it. How interesting I will now have to research it. Great Steve thanks.
Liked the start of the video, really interesting.always interested in Malta's history.Thanks.The Valletta streets were excellent.Have you been in the Theatre Manalo in Valletta?.It is beautiful.x😊😊
Nice one thanks Steve. Interesting streets of Valletta must include St Johns St. The home of Manuel Deimech (blue plague) the iron ring at the top which was used in pre-crane days to hoist the bell to the top of St Johns co-cathedral.
Another great video Steve, interesting history of the area and the runways. Always good to see the views too, was interested in the chapel, middle of nowhere? Thanks again.
What about RAF Halfar and RAF Luqa and the one everyone forgets about RAF Siggiewi which i served from 1975 to 1978. Just outside of Birzebbuga was the transmitter site with all the aerials which are still there today.

Another excellent video. I really enjoyed seeing a different part of Malta. Its a shame the Maltese Government did not preserve the airfield as its part of the history of Malta.
Nothing of the sort you are both implying. The Allies were preparing for the invasion of Sicily, and airfield were constructed in Qrendi, Siggiewi, and Safi. Even Gozo saw it’s only airfield at Ta Lambert, the result of which and in order to satisfy the British lust of destroying our heritage, hunting lodges built by the Knights of St John were demolished to built the airfields. They were used for a couple of weeks and either left to rot or retuned to the farmers. Witness to these are the various coat of arms which were placed in the courtyard of the governors palace in Valletta, where the statue of Neptune is, and to add insult to further injury, the wife of Governor Bonham Carter had the genitals of this statue covered in Bronze because of her Puritan beliefs. As the Palace belonged or bequeathed to her by some relative. The British destroyed a lot of our heritage left behind by the knights of St John, and No 1 on the list is Sir Thomas “King Tom” Maitland, who even proclaimed every town and village in Malta to erect statues to his honor. Obviously, the Englishman in Malta describes his visits in a text suitable to him, and leaves out much more detailed information which is readily apparent
Nice video of RAF Qrendi, to think that was almost 80 yrs ago, think them cats are guarding the Chapel, no wonder he got his beady eye on you, yes people also throw rubbish out their cars here if no one about, hate to see it, need more cameras, them walls keep the place tidy, stop some of the weeds, maybe u will show us the temples at a later date! @@nicholasbezzina450 Nicholas that's exactly MY point : "Pronunciation", "Phonetics" and "Dialects" do not alter the ORIGINAL "Spelling" of a Maltese word.
