Governor Laura Kelly - Medicaid Expansion

"Healthy Workers. Healthy Economy."
That's the message Governor Laura Kelly reinforced at her press conference on September 20 at William Newton Hospital. As a rural hospital caring for Kansans who live in the coverage gap, our campus was selected to launch Gov. Kelly's campaign to expand Medicaid in the state of Kansas.
WNH CEO Brian Barta spoke about the burden on rural hospitals when patients can't afford to seek preventative care and ultimately resort to emergency treatment. Barta said, "Let me make this abundantly clear... uncompensated care is not 'free.' It costs all of us."
Local business owner Alex Gottlob, Gottlob Lawn & Landscape LLC, also shared how Medicaid expansion could help his employees. Kansas is 1 of just 10 states in our country that has not passed Medicaid expansion, a move that could greatly benefit local healthcare, small family-owned businesses, and hardworking Kansans.
