    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Captain Jones (Jeffrey Donovan) accuses Mrs. Collins (Angelina Jolie) of trying to perpetrate fraud and commits her to the Psych Ward.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
Los Angeles, 1928: On a Saturday morning in a working-class suburb, Christine said goodbye to her son, Walter, and left for work. When she came home, she discovered he had vanished. A fruitless search ensues, and months later, a boy claiming to be the nine-year-old is returned. Dazed by the swirl of cops, reporters and her conflicted emotions, Christine allows him to stay overnight. But, in her heart, she knows he is not Walter. As she pushes authorities to keep looking, she learns that in Prohibition-era L.A., women don't challenge the system and live to tell their story. Slandered as delusional and unfit, Christine finds an ally in activist Reverend Briegleb, who helps her fight the city to look for her missing boy.

This is a nightmare. There's no escape. If you don't fight, they'll just think you're crazy. If u try to explain and fight, they will definitely think you're crazy. I feel bad for the real Christine she had to go through all this.

One of Clint Eastwood’s very best films as a director. Right up there with Unforgiven and The Outlaw Josey Wales.

The fact that this is highly based on a true story is incredibly sad.

Kate winslet's performance is not as strong as enough as that of Angelina ! They did the same with Ellen Burstyn ! The latter had given a wonderful performance in Requiem for a dream, She definitely deserved to win but the Oscar went to Julia Roberts !
I don't really seem to understand how the Academy Award members choose the winners !

Agreed. I love Kate Winslet, but this was a great movie and I was really impressed by Angelina Jolie's performance. Definitely one of her better films and roles. It was directed by Clint Eastwood- how can you go wrong with that??
As far as the Academy Awards....who the hell knows how they pick the recipients? :/ I felt a lot of talented actors/actresses were screwed over. It's only an award, the people not of the board know who the real winners are- even the recipients I am sure are not that dense.

I’m confused. In the movie, it was recommended that Captain Jones’s suspension was to be made permanent. But on one site, it says that in real life, he was only suspended for a few months.

The way Christine Collins was treated by the LAPD particularly by that officer is despicable. There was definitely a cover-up going on in this case. It's so sad she never found her son and always believed he was still out there. 🥺

Having been to the psych ward, I can confirm it is still quite a terrifying place. Once people have decided you’re nuts, it literally does not matter whether what you say makes sense or can be proved. You will not be trusted or believed by anyone about anything. The psychiatrist I was seen by in the ward shot down anything I tried to explain and gave me a diagnosis that makes absolutely no sense with my symptoms. It’s been on paperwork for the last year and almost ensured that doctors won’t give me the correct meds now. There’s a lot of abuse of power for inpatient psych. Psych wards were of course much worse with the use of electroshock and such back then, but some things don’t change. Try to never end up there.

Well done film, but the title is a misnomer. The changeling segment is a relatively small part of this multithemed film. It's about police abuse, psychiatric abused, a psycho-killer, and other things. It went on too long though with all these different aspects to it. I really wonder how many films "directed by Clint Eastwood" he actually directed. I suspect he director of most of them in name only while others do all the work.

      S. Adam Bernstein Doesn't make sense. He directed most of them. What makes you think he just taking all the credit? Don Siegel and Leone is his mentors so it's not surprising that he produced well done films

Re the title: that was the point. The trailer made it seem as if the movie was going to be about this woman whose son goes missing and she goes insane; to many of us, who had never heard of the case and went to see the movie for the first time, the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders and LAPD corruption aspect was like whiplash. So unexpected. It is one of my most favorite moviegoing experiences. I was expecting a period movie about a missing child, but it turned into so much more.

What is a 5150 or 72-hour hold? 5150 is the number of the section of the Welfare and Institutions Code, which allows a person with a mental challenge to be involuntarily detained for a 72-hour psychiatric hospitalization. A person on a 5150 can be held in the psychiatric hospital against their will for up to 72 hours.

To keep her quiet - because she was developing a good case against them and had people on her side to prove that the boy they gave her wasn't her son Walter. She learns when in the ward there are many women sent there by corrupt cops to keep them silent.
