From Alan Doyle: "St. John’s Waltz is perfect poetry. A painting with words and melody. It is literally enchanting. Instantly makes the listener understand a lot about the place and make them want to be in it.”
From Tom Power of The Dardanelles: "I remember driving to school when I was a little kid and asking my Dad what the national anthem was (he said 'O Canada') and then what the provincial anthem was (he said 'The Ode to Newfoundland’) and then logically I asked him the municipal anthem and my memory is him pausing and said, 'I guess it would be the St. John's Waltz'. When Alan suggested this would be the right song for us to join him on, it was an honour - especially for this homesick townie."
Lyrics:
Oh the harbour lights are gleaming
And the evening's still and dark
And the seagulls are all dreaming
Seagull dreams on Amherst Rock
And the mist is slowly drifting
As the storefront lights go dim
And the moon is gently lifting
As the last ship's coming in
All the sailors got a story
Some are true, some are false
But they're always wrecked and they're up on the deck
Dancin' the St. John's Waltz
Oh we've had out share of history
We've seen nations come and go
We've seen battles rage over land and stage
Four hundred years and more
For glory or for freedom
For country or for king
Or for money or fame but there are no names
On the graves where men lie sleeping
All the nine to fives survive the day
With a sigh and a dose of salts
And they're parkin' their cars and packin' the bars
Dancin' the St. John's Waltz
Oh my heart is on the highway
And I'm sold on goin' to sea
All the planes fill the skyway
The trains run swift and free
So leave the wayward free to wander
Leave the restless free to roam
If it's rocks in the bay or it's old cliche
You'll find your way back home
So don't question or inquire
What's been gained, what's been lost
In a world of romance don't miss out on the chance
To be dancin' the St. John's Waltz Видеоклипы
Forget your colour corrected tourism ads, this is St. John's! All mauzy and damp, aging store fronts, good people, great music, hard not to feel homesick when you watch this. Lovely.
I was in St. John's in 2015. I remember walking down those streets. St. John's is 1 of tge most beautiful cities I've ever been to. A true Canadian treasure. Music from another Canadian treasure.
A beautiful tribute to a Canadian Icon. Rest in Peace Ron.
First spent time in St John’s March-April 1994, snow piles everywhere. Stayed in a friend’s place on the Battery. A few return visits, last time 2009. I can’t believe it still looks just the same: Fred’s, O’Brien’s, Duke of Duckworth and the steps, The Ship, wharfside. Thanks Alan for bringing it all back to me ❤.
Lovely song, lovely rendition, lovely tour of St. Johns
I love this! It's so nice to see St. John's again...lived there for two years. Great song.
Sandy outside the Ship absolutely killed me. Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful
Awesome job! Ron is smiling for sure. Living in Alberta and missing all these places in my sweet little town.
Always my Favorite Ron song....Great Job Alan and the guys!
Jaysus way to make me emotional. Just got back from town after too long, and walked around a foggy night just like this and stopped into all those spots
What a beautiful tribute ❤ ❤
So lovely to see many favorite places as you capture the feel of this very special place ❤
As usual, nothing but the best.
J'ai soudainement le goût de retourner à St. John's!
❤ Perfect congratulations
This is so lovely.
Great job!!
I was hoping you’d take us to that art installation, a place I go to every time I’m in St. John’s. Love your cover of Ron’s song.
