Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Mc Solaar. This song "Solaar Pleure" (Solaar Cries) was released on January 16, 2001 as the first single from his fifth album "Cinquième As" (Fifth Ace), ranked No. 4 for 3 consecutive weeks, sold 299,000 copies and certified gold.
The song has become a classic in his discography and in the rap world. It is intimate and personal and narrates her dark thoughts.
The track is divided into three verses:
The first describes his own death (fuck the Earth if I die here is my will / I want flowers and kids and my death serves their future), in the second he evokes the journey but also the separation between the body and the soul (my soul is rising, I see you from a low angle/now I am a soaring soul), finally the third verse evokes the duality between good and evil (Eden exterminator, exterminating angel/vidor matador of the divine examiner), the heaven versus hell.
Suddenly, he finds himself abruptly going from the Garden of Eden to Hell (I'm in paradise, I cross the plains/and immediately sends me to the flames and then the mire).
The last sentence "Hell is on earth and who manages it" is an allegory describing a life that balances between evil and good.

I never listen to rap. Really not a fan but even then I listen to MC Solaar cause he is just so good. His rap are “clean” and the wordplay are really clever while the beat is unbeatable.

The title is : "Solaar pleure" which I translate by "Solaar is weeping", cause it has to remind the alliterations of the lyrics :
Seul sous son saule pleureur, Solaar pleure / Alone under his weeping willow, Solaar is weeping. (Under the willow is his grave)
So much literary and religious references, evocation of Dante's Divine Comedy. Evil, Satan and his number ("666, the number of the Antechrist") are recurrent, almost obsessive themes in Solaar's songs.
I would rather say three parts : Solaar's death, Solaar in Heaven and then in Inferno. Someday I'll wrote about this text. And when it comes with such arrangements, you've got this one ! Thanks again, Dereck

Il y a beaucoup de rappeurs qui font des chansons faite de haines et de contre-vérités, en revanche, MC Solaar était et est un poète, ses textes sont toujours travaillés et reflètent de vraies choses. On est loin des clichés usuels sur les rappeurs...
