- 👋 In todays head to head comparison, we take a look at the 2024 BMW X5 xdrive40i and the Audi Q8! These are both luxury focused two row SUV's that have some performance and a lot of options!
The 2024 BMW X5 xDrive40i is more on the "entry" side for the X5 lineup and still offers plenty! With the inline six cylinder (B58), it's one of the most reliable engines in the BMW mix, it can also tow and is also a great daily driver! The BMW X5 is BMW's most popular vehicle! The exterior has a nice sporty look with some crisp lines and with the M Sport package, it blacks out a lot of the accents which I think looks great! The interior has nice materials, great technology and very user friendly.
The Audi Q8 is also on the "entry" side with two other higher trim levels, and has plenty to offer! This Audi is paired with a V6, but also sounds a little better and this can move! The exterior on the Audi is more slim and curved VS the BMW. It has that sportback design in the rear which just gives it a slightly different look! The rest of the exterior has nice lines and this model also has the black optics package to black out the emblems! The interior is also very nice with the materials, tech and ease of use!
The driving experience between both of these luxury focused SUV's was honestly very similar! Both of these models do offer the adaptive suspension to offer even more of a comfortable ride, but they are both quiet and great for daily driving! Driving them back to back, it's really hard to pick which one I would rather own (PS, I do own an X5 :)), but both are great options and it just depends on which exterior, interior and the comfort you have behind the wheel!

X5 is a better-looking vehicle, with better power, MPG, and APP, with a maintenance plan included for the first 36 months or 40k miles. While the Q8 has better long-term reliability and better tech the APP is very limited compared to BMW and Mercedes. Q8 is a decent buy if you don't mind the "soccer mom look 🙂 For me, it's the X5 10 times out of 10.

X5 vs Q7 would be a better comparison IMO & X6 vs Q8. Those are more direct competitors but great video nonetheless

@@BenHillFinest the BMW X5 comes with a 3rd row as an option & it is the direct competitor to the Audi Q7 & Mercedes GLE. The X7 goes up against against the Mercedes GLS & upcoming Audi Q9. You can simply Google this information to confirm.

I have head up display on my Audi (Prestige package), but I do not even look at it. After 50+ years of driving without it, I am used to looking at the dash.
Yeah I'm not the biggest fan of HUD anymore. I liked it when I first drove cars with it. But I wouldn't pay more to have it in a car
That BMW runs the same engine Toyota uses in their Supra (B58 Inline 6). The X5 also ranked #1 this year in its class for Consumer Reports…. beating out both Lexus and Acura…… including in predicted reliability! These 2 things alone tell me BMW has really put some work into making this suv a lot more reliable. I would now buy this over any other luxury suv in is class.
Doubt it. All bmw suvs are made in Spartanburg, SC…and they are notorious for quality control. We’ve had two gens of the x5 since 2007 and they were both plagued with terrible quality control and reliability. If only they made it in Germany for North America..

This is not a 2024 Q8, it is a Q5 or an older model. Audi did a facelift on the Q8 for 2024 and this isn't it. Title / video needs update / redone to be accurate.
Might have been a 2023 Q8. Don't know why I said Q5 in the beginning of the video. But aside from the grille the 2024 Q8 is still the same car as the 2023
Both very nice. Bmw will have a little extra power. I would go with the X5 50e, for some 40 miles of electric range plus huge gains in power (close to 500hp, a lot of torque too)

BMW X5
I have always held a stereotype about BMW’s. I have thought about getting a bumper sticker that says “BMW makes great cars, but I am not a big enough jerk to drive one.” I know, I know, a stereotype. I like the looks of the Q8 more. I kind of lean toward the Audi brand; luxury with a chunk of get up and go, vs the BMW being a bit rougher in terms of the ride. I could well be wrong as I have yet to test a X5. No run flats for me, so I am glad BMW is moving away from those. I do know about the reliability of the BMW brand is now excellent, but so far Audi’s have never given me a lick of trouble. 🤞
I have run flats on my X5 and it’s such a smooth ride. I don’t know why people keep saying that’s a rough ride. I have zero issues with them. The bmw is a lot more sporty feeling compared to the Audi. Both are great options though. I have an Audi too, but had to pick the X5 over the Q8.

I adjusted the rear controls yesterday in my 2024 X5 with the four zone climate controls because my kid left the rear fan on full blast.
It’s a little buried in the climate app, but you can adjust all the rear climate controls and even lock them so your kids don’t leave the fan on full blas.

These are not direct competitors, this is a bit of a mashup review. The Q8 is a coupe style SUV with lower roofline and shorter rear cargo, would compete against the X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe. The X5 competes against the Q7 and GLE SUV. Both of the latter can be equipped with a third row seat for more practicality, the X5 no longer offers in the US. The Q8 tested does not appear to be the 2024 model year as you state in the title of the vid. The front and taillights appear to be from 2019-2023 model years.
The Q8 does have head up display, just not in the lesser packaged one you tested. Prestige package has it. My Q8 Prestige has big 6 piston front breaks, forged Audi Sport 22” wheels with high performance tires, adjustable and dynamic air ride suspension with rear wheel steering (I can lower and stiffen the suspension quite a bit for tight handling) so it is a sportier more nimble ride than that bigger, heavier X5, though yours seems to have the M package with some upgrades. You are comparing an X5 with the M-sport package with suspension upgrades against a base Q8, then saying X5’s are sportier..lol. A direct competitor would have been a Q7 55 Prestige with S-Line and sport package. See the link below:

Your video narrative is wild. You state the X5 40i has a hybrid motor (it does not). FYI….The BMW X5 50e hybrid (with electric motor) is 483hp and 516 lbft

It's a mild-hybrid. Meaning a 48volt assist. Not a plug-in hybrid.

I was considering both and picked the Q8. The BMW interior felt off. As if it were designed by a kid with a vague idea of what a luxury interior should look like but wanted something to "look cool." The result in my view was definitely not cool. The Q8 felt more spacious and definitely a lot more luxurious. On the outside I felt that the Audi looked a bit more timeless and is less likely to look dated in a few years (which is ironic since it hasn't changed in five years) compared to new BMW designs. I also preferred a more comfort-oriented suspension especially since the Q8 has plenty of power to give when I want sportiness.
I'm obviously biased since I ended up buying the Q8 but I definitely think BMW should "grow up" a bit is the word that comes to mind. The BMW has been my dream car since childhood but every time I've been put in a position to buy one, it just seemed to fall short (Q8 vs. X5/6 in 2024, and X1 vs. Volvo XC40 in 2021)
Thanks for sharing, I went with the BMW because I think it looks much better and the interior has a nicer layout. Coming from an R8 owner, I liked the X5 way more.
Both are great options though, but I wouldn’t say the bmw needs to “grow up”…
Looks are subjective, so everyone will have a different view, but both are nice options depending on what the buyer will enjoy.
X5 doesn’t have that road presence , x3 almost looks the same. Audi q8 , u can’t miss it.
I’d disagree but buy what you enjoy. I love my X5.

The Q8 would be more comparable to the x6. The X5 to the Q7. But Audi would come out even better in those comparisons.

Q7 is a 3 row, that’s not the competitor to the X5….but the X5/6 are the same, minus the back glass..

@@pawull Yeah we used to have the X5 have the option of a 3rd row. It they stopped that years ago. So the X7 is the BMW competing with the Q7. X5/X6 competes with Q8
