Im on my own journey right now. For the past 28 year’s I saw my self as a Rastaman a Rastafari who follows HIM. But now I fight with my convictions about that. Because I don’t know and I don’t see the connection between the Rasta Peaceful Ital way and HIM. I know all about how it started with Howell, Garvey etc but if I look on the history of Ethiopia I see the kings and the bloody history. I can see that Haile Selassie has nothing to do with the thinking of a Rastaman. Haile Selassie was a man of progress, technique, weapons, soldiers, political governance etc. He was a smart and silent man but he also was someone who was brutal to others in Ethiopia. It’s a fact. I come to this as a very young man with 14 years of age. I literally wasn’t able to understand the whole thing. Now when I study history about Menelik II and Haile Selassie I see it has nothing to do what a so called Rastafari thinking or preaching. Nothing at all. Haile Selassie would put Rastas in jail and he would let them rotten their. He used them to make his name bigger in the diaspora but he didn’t like them at all. The land was never given to the Rastas it was given to black people who fight in Ethiopia Italy war 1936. Haile Selassie didn’t even liked his own people he liked the Europeans and Americans a lot more. I think a lot of Rastas do not want to hear the truth…because it can hurt someone’s feelings …like myself. But I have to recognize that all that Ital living, herb smoking and free living has nothing to do with Ethiopia. I don’t want to insult anyone no. But I have to recognize that for my self that I waste 28 years of my life with that. If I do not follow Selassie anymore I can’t be a Rastafari anymore…that’s what so called Brothers and Sisters say. I’m done with it. I man is a free man I keep my dreadlocks, and I keep my faith in JAH who is the sun and the nature to me. Give thanks
