    It would also be a lot of fun if they put a little smoke (from those cold nightclub fumes) inside the compressor, so that we could have a visual dazzle of the whistles.

    There is a frati band organ extremely similar to this one at the Lakeside Park Carousel in Port Dalhousie, Ontario, Canada.

    Yes it is beautiful--and very atypical of band organ music. The title is Amapola (My Pretty Little Poppy). This song was very popular during the Big Band Era.
    The other tunes are: 0:45 Under the Double Eagle, 3:15 Melody of Love, 5:12 Sincerely, 8:52 Bushel and a Peck.

    You can definitely hear the similarity between the string stop in this organ and the Frati at Knoebels in PA.

      @Karlfalcon 2 года назад

      @@Vladimir82623 Roll, book, or barrel organs normally do not have a fully chromatic scale, so they would not be able to play a piano roll. There are many different specific scales for organs, depending on how they were built.

      @@Vladimir82623 look up the 20-note organ scale for an excellent example of how small organs can play well with so few notes available!

    Do these things run on vacuum (like a player piano ) or pressure or both. I love machines that make music.

    • @FratiGuy56
      @FratiGuy56 7 лет назад +2

      Thanks for your interest Jack! Great question! Wurlitzer band organs use both pressure and vacuum (pressure to play the pipes and vacuum to operate the roll system); others, including the one on this video, use pressure only. That's why you see a roller with grooves holding the paper against the tracker bar--otherwise the pressure would lift the roll away from the tracker bar. The pressure system was a 1920s innovation by the Artizan Company, one of Wurlitzer's competitors. It simplified the organ's system by eliminating the vacuum pump. Later, after Artizan ceased operations, the B.A.B. Organ Company continued that system.

      Thanks for your reply. I first saw one of these marvellous instruments when I was about 3 or 4 years old on a carousel at an amusement park near Detroit. Couldn't get it out of my head. They have some in Holland, Michigan and during the tulip festival in April they have a parade that features many of them. Glad to see that people such as yourself are restoring these magnificent old organs. Thanks again. Jack Clarke
