Inside A Minimal House Made of Glass, Concrete And Timber (House Tour)

  • Salmon Residence takes you inside a minimal house. Located in the leafy green suburb of Essendon, the dream house emerges from the residential site as a contemporary glass and concrete structure. Inside a minimal house, intrigue is ignited through brutalist architecture, an interplay of materiality and a modern interior decor.
    Throughout the house tour, the architecture and interior design showcase a minimalist intent. Inside a minimal house such as Salmon Residence, tailored furniture pieces feature throughout the interior design in keeping with the brutalist architecture. Bespoke glass windows encourage movement within the home and its spaces, intertwining the interior décor and exterior areas. Gracing the entry courtyard is a dramatic pond, poised in front of a large glass window and adding a tailored element to the minimal design.
    Concrete fortifies the minimalist interior design and architecture, showcased within the house tour through the kitchen bench, external paving, interior flooring and the facade - this foundational base is expected inside a minimal house, but is offset with the fresh use of timber. The furniture within the home is an extension of the clients’ character, layered atop of the home’s concrete base and minimalist architecture.
    FGR Architects approached Thermeco to enhance the design vision within the home. Inside a minimal house such as this, glass plays a dynamic role in crafting the perfect dream home. The glass is designed to appear seamless, as if the furniture and the outdoors are one within the minimalist home.

      It would be impossible to do in a lot of countries, just taking building permit can take years in my place if you don't have your own people inside, plus workers are very lazy in my country so you have to transport whole crew

      i think the windows help it not feel like a prison. however, i wouldve used a different material for the kitchen island to break it up and add visual interest.

Saludos

    I love a home that's an open plan but is sectioned by glass. One look and you see whether your kids are roughing it up in the pool. It looks intimidating to maintain glass facades and windows like this but Thermeco is amazing. They make them in Italy with really strong galvanized steel. Elegant and reliable. Great choice.

    Beautiful project with great quality, for sure. But I would definetly be intrested in the ecological footprint of that housing. Building with so much concret might be a little counterproductive these days, facing the climate change. I'd say that clients with a big budget also do have a responsability to buildt as environmental friendly as possible.

      concrete is not green?

    • @T_Cooper
      @T_Cooper 2 года назад

      Hi @@minigiant8998, not really. Concrete is one of the most Co2 intensive building materials. Responsible for that are the ingredients cement and steel. These and other raw materials like aluminum, plaster and lime are the main sources of Co2 emissions in the industry. Another problem is that you can't recycle it proberly. Mostly it's only downcycled after it's first life cycle. It's good, that they didn't use to many extra finishes and kept the concrete seeable. All in all we should really conciously use concret in architecture. :)

    • @minigiant8998

      @@T_Cooper concrete is better than tearing down trees and it lasts forever.

    • @T_Cooper
      @T_Cooper 2 года назад

      @@minigiant8998 Depends on how many trees you are tearing down at the same time. You can also make buildings out of other materials last for ever, and that is the main goal in general. Honoring all the materials we use and make them long lasting. But still, we shouldn't use concret for everything, because it's indeed not green. Reducing steel and cement might be a good solution for the beginning. You can check it in the IPPC if you want to. Unfortunetly there are no apparent solutions in sustainability.
