One of them said to me if I had my own way this water would be dry fly only, split cane rods and brown trout only. Well the same man a while later asked me what fly I was using I said well I am strugling so I am going to put a semtex tampon on and he just could not see that I was taking the piss. keep up the good work you are bloody great. That first fish! Wow, awesome to watch. Love sight fishing, similar to chasing Bones in clear Caribbean water. Unfortunately there can be an elitist taint to fly fishing here in Canada and I love to get new anglers into the sport.
Another great video! 🙂 This is on my list of daft things to try now I'm 60! I watched a video a few months ago of a bloke fly fishing on the Ribble for barbel. But he made it look as if they could only be caught on wormy flies. Now I'm going to throw everything at them! 😁 And well done for bringing up the subject of elitism in fly fishing. I think a good bit of it was wiped out with the opening of "put and take" fly fisheries" around 30+ years ago. A lot of coarse fishers bought fly gear to give themselves something to do in the closed season. But a while after they became popular, commercial fisheries started to open and the closed season rules were changed. Which makes me wonder if progress is a good thing when it comes to fishing venues. My Dad became an elitist fly fisherman. And I've never forgotten the time I told him I'd started trout fishing again. And the way his expression of great joy turned to abject horror as I showed him my lure collection! 😁

I understand the very much stereotypical view of what fly fishing was........my Dad taught me when I was 6 and we fished many places in Wales and England (and we were from a council estate) in Shropshire . Fly fishing still has that stigma but there is a large community that are making it really interesting and fun these days . Keep up the great films ❤

As a Spaniard i've fished barbel for many years , in places with less food they will attack a spoon a jerkbait spinner etc . Sometimes i'been fishing for bass and got my line snapped by 3-4kg barbel.
Great vid. You should try for their bigger relative, Mahseer, in Asia someday. I've heard that in Andalucía there's a compulsory weekend training course, costing 80 Euro, when you apply for a fishing license. As a visitor, did you have to do that?
