I’m a dlineman in high school and was about to tackle the qb when he was literally starting the releasing motion ball still in hand. He threw a duck that landed nowhere near his targeted reciever with a flag thrown after. You may think intentional grounding but nope. Roughing the passer. It was 4th down in the fourth quarter and were up by 6. My coach cussed out the ref and we got a personal foul. Gave them 30 yards and a game winning td. After shaking hands I said probably every cuss word on the walk to the locker room cuz I was so pissed at a rule. Let’s just play flag football for now on

I was also confused by the "no coaching" rule in tennis, so I looked it up, and apparently, it was put in place because most players on the tour don't have the resources to have a coach, or if they do, don't have money to bring them over to every tournament. With that logic, coaching on the court would be an unfair advantage for the best and richest players. Also, a lot of traditionalists apparently despise the very idea of coaches in tennis. They believe a tennis match should be prepared and then played between two players with no outside interference, to see who is the best, technically and mentally.
I still think it's stupid, but at least there is some kind of logic.

Also, as a female player (daughter of a pro player too) pointed out, it only apllies to the grand slams and most important competitions, in other competitions, it's ok for the coaches to communicate during the breaks.
I think it makes sense when you're talking about cream of the crop, but at the same time, a little bit of coaching should be allowed, like playing a card during a game, or a time off.
But that doesn't make Serena look any better, her problem was her attitude, not the rules.

@@FivePointsVids Speaking about the NCAA , how about the excessive celebration rule in football, which as of a few years ago now actually has had the ability to take touchdowns OFF the board entirel when called. I kept waiting for that one in both of these videos lol. That will forever be the dumbest rule for me. Just about all others have some gameplay cause to them in some form, that one has none of that and yet can dramatically impact a game outcome. Oh and I just thought of another in that vain, the MLB's rainout rule wherein any game that doesn't go 5 innings (or 4.5 if Home Team is winning) can have the entirety of that game up to where it was stopped wiped out as if it never happened. Ergo, a team can be winning be 10-1 in the 3rd, but if the game doesn't go 5, it doesn't count when they replay the game later. Have always hated it, completely unfair.

The thing with the Caution Clock is that it isn't actually gone - it was retooled into stage racing for 2017 and spread to the Xfinity and Cup Series as well. Even better, they tied points to the mandatory cautions. It's made things even more convoluted, to the point that my roommates are constantly asking how the stages work, not to mention what NASCAR was thinking with them (short answer = money and the illusion of drama).
Honestly, though, stage racing isn't the rule that's gonna kill NASCAR in the long run - THAT honor goes to the charter system.

    • @TheForeverRanger
      @TheForeverRanger 6 лет назад

Stage racing makes certain tracks (looking at you Kentucky) watchable. As much as I love old school racing, stage racing makes to where every lap counts.

    • @BeastOfMetal1989
      @BeastOfMetal1989 6 лет назад +1

@@TheForeverRanger Making the drivers run harder in the middle of the race isn't the fundamental flaw with the rule, though. It's the part where casual and even some diehard fans are having a hard time understanding how the stage points affect the season standings, particularly in regard to the playoff points, hence why someone who does get it has to explain the rule ad infinitum until the other person tunes out and walks away.
There's also the doozy of trying to explain how there can be discreet stages when the laps continue counting during the stage cautions (excepting the Eldora Truck race), which is a quirk I've never seen in any other series that uses segmentation, including NASCAR's regional tours.

    • @andrewwinslow9315

I think it is funny that contact sports are making such a big fuss about concussions and injuries. The simple solution would be to officially admit that playing said contact sports may lead to injury that could affect former players later in life (concussions). Then settle with those who are currently trying to sue or who are upset, and make all current and future players sign a waiver claiming that they understand the risks associated with playing a contact sport and will not pursue damages against the league for any future complications. Instead they are just making the games softer and driving away the core audience while still leaving themselves open to lawsuits from players that retire in the future.

Bit late to the party, but there is a very good reason for the no coaching rule in tennis. Because it's an individual sport the idea is for the player to be able to win the game unassisted. It most importantly comes from the fact tennis is an "open" sport where anyone can complete and win rather than having a franchise register with a league. Up and coming players could work their lives away to beat a top player but if they have the extra advantage of a high plaid professional coach then the poorer, less successful player has a lot more to overcome.

We need a "The Five DUMBEST Broadcast Gimmicks in Sports" video. You can start with NBC's "green zone" on 3rd down because I guess people weren't smart enough to just look at the yellow line to see how many yards a team needed to pick up a first down.
Oh and that time FOX used the glow puck, or flare to show where the puck was on screen, which included a longer tail depending on how fast the puck was travelling. And now I see they want to bring it back xD.
Or when the NFL tried to televise an entire game from sky cam last year. Which I believe only lasted one game.

Plus, where as you don't know if there's a wreck before the caution clock goes to 0, stage racing allows you to plan ahead as the stage winds down. I would also change the commercials to only when caution is out or when the stage is over.

Also, I've been watching college hockey lately. In the Ohio State v Michigan game this past Saturday there were two incidents of an Ohio State player checking a Michigan player into the boards. The first one looked much worse than the second. In the first one, the Buckeye shoved the Wolverine and that sent him head first into the boards. In the second it looked like just a normal check but their bodies were lower and so instead of hitting the glass, they hit the boards.
For both incidents, the Buckeye player received a 5 minute major and a game misconduct. Now I'm not as privy to the history of college hockey as I am to college football, so maybe I'm missing some context, but a game misconduct seemed way too strict for this. Maybe a 5 minute major would have been in order, but to eject a guy for a slightly too aggressive check. IDK.
What made it seem even more ridiculous is that in both cases, a Michigan player responded by starting a fight with the Ohio State player. For that, the Michigan players only received 2 minute minors. 2 minute minors for fighting - an intentional act of dircetly attacking a player in a way that doesn't have anything to do with trying to compete for the puck to score a goal. Yeah I know it's hockey, but compare that to the game misconducts handed out for accidentally being a little too aggressive in the course of competing for the puck in order to try to score goals.
    Something seems off there.

    I understand some of these.
Like the caution clock. Otherwise the race straight becomes a game of follow the leader, especially in NASCAR, where there are no tight corners.
I mean let's be honest, if a player has made it to a Grand Slam, why do they need coaching DURING the game, haven't they prepared enough to spend a couple of hours by themselves?
It's a lot easier to silence the crowd in golf than it is in baseball, so what's the big deal? Golf also has a much more formal culture.

The most absurd thing about the crazy roughing the passer rules is that for a few decades now the offense has had a clear advantage over the defense.
The forward pass began as essentially a hack to the game.
    Before that it was even.
But at this point the offense absolutely has an advantage and the defense has to get interceptions or its fucked.
The forward pass is a hack that gives an advantage...meaning it should have a consequence as well in order to be fair.
The consequence is that the guy standing there while everyone else is moving...might get fucking hammered.
Without that consequence the game will forever be unbalanced.

Am I the only one who likes the possession arrow? Jump balls are often silly because of the height discrepancy between the two players who get tied up, and nobody except for centers are even used to doing jump balls, which creates some pretty awkward moments

I feel like college football targeting should get honorable mention. The idea behind the rule is good. The problem it aimed at solving was a real problem that has largely been solved, but there's a major flaw with it. It's too strict and results in guys being tossed out of the game for the barest of infractions that are often incidental. I can't count the number of times when I've watched a replay and go, "yeah it's obvious this guy wasn't head hunting. He had good form. He made a good tackle. He just accidentally barely had incidental helmet to helment" but it was still called a targeting because it met the letter of the law. It's really dumb.

The reason behind it is actually not that complecated. Tennis is mostly an individual competition and each athletes hire their own crew. However since the players can only earn through prize money at the beginning of their career without proper sponsorship that some competitors may not be able to afford a coaching crew. It would be unfair at the lower end tournaments that mostly can barely make a living meanwhile some more wealthy family can hire some of the best in the world.

Golfers could hit their shots if the noise was steady. Tennis players can play through noise except when they're serving - then there must not be any noise which would break their concentration (same as in golf).
