I honestly prefer the talking. I haven't been one of the ones commenting questioning why you put buildings where they are or how big the stump is, but it's good to hear you explain it all the same. One of my favorite things about the outdoor boys youtube channel is that Luke narrates why he's doing all the things he does. However a *requirement* for me when watching your videos is that you include that beautiful drone nature footage with your music in the background. That's what keeps me coming back.
Good to know...I try and make videos that I like regardless of "performance" and I LOVE doing the drone shots with music...BUT believe it or not, those parts almost always lose viewers so I try and limit them to some degree, but will never get rid of them. So I appreciate you saying that.
@@alaskacabinadventures That's interesting to hear. It's not necessarily surprising to me because even as someone who thinks that's his favorite part if I've got something else on my mind that's the point where I'd realize I could pause the video and go do it. So yeah I guess you gotta do what you gotta do to appease the algorithm gods, but it doesn't necessarily reflect the preference or enjoyment of the audience I don't think.
Love to see you at the cabin! Am actually jealous of your warm temperatures…here in Michigan we have been frigid🥶. Thanks for the boiling trick for the cast iron…will give it a go next time. It looks like you’re getting good use of the knife your dad (I think) sent you😊. Of all the channels I watch, you have one of the nicest cabins…always looks so warm and cozy, with such nice finishes and furnishings. The windstorm looked terrifying…glad to see not too much damage and that you and Norm are okay. Hopefully see you again soon!
I love all the videos! talking and no talking. don't change or force anything, talk when you want, don't talk when you don't want to, last thing you (or us watching) want to do is have these videos feel like a big burden or chore...love the natural flow of things. Glad everything is mostly ok after the storm!
Always appreciate your comments and this one is spot on. I preach this to people all the time about art. Do it for YOU and let the audience be what it will be. Thanks for the reminder.
I like all of your videos. I do enjoy the silent ones..the beauty surrounding you all quiet. That is why we go to the woods, to hear silence. I'm at my most calm and collected when in nature. The peace envelopes me, and I commune with nature. Hi Norm. He seems to be the best behaved dog I've seen for some time. I enjoy watching you cook and clean for yourself. Thank you for posting. I'm so happy nothing was wrecked by the wind storm. I watched Timmy's video the other day. He had some cottonwood branches come down. Nothing hit his truck house, or his actual house or rental. He did comment though that there were 150+ mph winds!!! Yikes.
All your content is amazing.. whether you’re narrating the video because you didn’t feel like talking or speaking through it! Love it either way. Glad you came out on the better side of the wind storm.. agree time to assess potential danger and take down dead trees. ❤ to your beautiful wife and baby.. wishing you continued success in 2025 and beyond.. I’ll be tuned in no matter the style or content 😊
A nice change of pace. Appreciated! Also, it seems a lot has happened - sauna time and cleaning up after the windstorm... The windstorm appeared to be brutal 🤐. Wonder what the wind speeds were like. In any case, here is a treat to Norm. Thanks!
Definitely like the commentary. Your words help put everything into context for someone who loves what you do but has no experience or reference point coming from the southern hemisphere. Love this work!
You might want to consider chopping down most of the trees that are close to your cabin, sauna, and wood barn. I have seen other videos from other people also and that is what they suggest to do . I really enjoy your videos and Norman. I love that you. spoke on this one. You are able to explain more to the audience so that we know exactly what is going on. Keep on making videos as they are very enjoyable. Thanks, Sarah U.S.A.
Thanks for another great video!! Im so glad your cabin and other builds werent damaged by the winds. Also, love all your music! Keep at it, Matt! Take care
I really enjoyed you talking and explaining things that most of us didn’t know !!! Keep it up !!! Norm is just precious and keeps good company for you and your family!!! That wind storm at the cabin was very scary and I’m just home watching!!!!! Glad it didn’t do great damage!!!!! Stay safe !!!!!
Thank you very much for a really nice vid. It was nice to hear your journey at the cabin. I loved it. I think you did a wonderful job. And Norman is the best dog ever. My husband and I live in the woods too and we are always saying “we don’t like wind” it’s all our pines around. And the wind is crazy where I live. We keep our fingers crossed every wind storm.
I am presently going through the same weather up here in HatcherPass, Willow side. I have had gale force winds and rain and snow sideways changing back and forth. Right now it's snow winds with enough force to make my cabin shake. I have quite a few trees down. When I cook bacon, What's left in the pan, I put on my dogs food and then clean it like you. Half of my property is deep snow and the other half, is ice. What a crazy this Winter is. Thanks for sharing
@alaskacabinadventures Both but, the rain and snow has stopped and the wind is just blowing. I'm thing of doing an overnight up in the Pass with my van.
So happy that you were spared any significant damage! I like both the ones where the music is playing(very relaxing) and other times I enjoy hearing about what's going on with you, family, the homestead and, of course, Norm. Thank you for sharing parts of your life with us all!
Well at least you will not have to go far to replenish your firewood supply ! Yes I would go out around your buildings and do some tree tapping to see if there are anymore punky ones or rotting ones . Glad there was no serious damage .
Hey Matt. My name is Steve and I'm from Toledo, Ohio. Thank you very much for such a great video. I found your channel from Truck House Life. I have a goal to drive to Alaska and find a place to calm home. Anywho, I wanted to thank you for the inspiration and the great info and video regarding Alaskan life. I am hoping to be driving towards Alaska as soon as possible. It should be about a year or so until I can get the funds. Thank you again and I'm glad there was not any major damage caused from the wind storm.
I really enjoyed this video. Glad to see the homestead was unscathed for the most part by the windstorm! Also, I adore Norman. He’s a true Husky…. Loves to be outdoors and running. Looking forward to the next video. Be safe.
You can see Norman is a happy dog. No dought about it. 😊❤. It's a nice video. You explaining how you get's things working. I use to have a cabin up in the norwegian mountain so understand you when it comes to the storms. Love watching your videos. 😊
I absolutely loved the narrative of this one mate. As others have said, its nice to hear some of the background info around why you do stuff the way that you do. Also, I don't understand why people seem to want to question the placement of your out buildings. As someone who loves the outdoors, and who would love to have a setup like yours, Ive personally always loved your layout. I think that it is the perfect blend of practicality and aesthetics. The only thing Ive thought would be the perfect addition would be to have a small 'smoke house' that way you could cure as much trout and salmon as you're allowed. Thanks again from Australia mate.
Great video! Crazy that your peaceful "daily life" video turned into an "actual" Alaska Cabin Adventure. And only you could keep a crisis calm. Good work!
Your music and videography at 24:00 and on really made me feel. really beautiful. it reminded me of the scene from Blow when he finds out his wife has cancer and he jumps bail; the hopeful urgency really comes through... really powerful and beautiful stuff. Best of luck. Cheers.
All your videos are so fascinating to watch, whether you talk or don't, doesn't matter at all to me. I'm 71 years old and have lived in suburbia most of my life and love watching your daily life which seems so amazing to this on-grid woman. I don't care if Norm wears a coat or not! Or how high your chopping stump is! It's your life and I appreciate you giving us a peek into life in the wilds of Alaska. Keep making the videos you want to make.
I did exactly the same thing as you did last year I use my Honda generator to charge up my EcoFlow delta max2 And that runs the Cabin quietly compared to listening to a generator in the background plus it’s less wear and tear on the generator. This year I hope to add the extra external battery to get two days worth of use. Instead of one.
@@alaskacabinadventures I bought a renogy 400 watt solar suitcase to use to charge it during the day and I can move it as the sun moves across my property. The problem is I have so many trees It doesn't really do the job it should I can only seem to get about 300 Watts out of it at a time
Tropical storm Fiona went through Prince Edward Island, Canada, a few years back. The wind was horrendous. Homeowners couldn't sleep because the wind shook their houses so much. They didn't know if the house was going to collapse. The spruce and fir trees snapped halfway up the trunk or tipped over at the roots if the roots were in wet ground. Some of the roads were full of these snapped-off trunks. Road crews cleared half the road from the trunks, just like you might do in a snowstorm. And the good folks of the island have a heightened fear of tropical storms.
Love watching your videos. No big staging dramas.....just a guy and his dog enjoying life. I do apprecite the work it takes in making the angles and shots. That takes alot of time and work editing im sure. Thanks again.
I like your videos, and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw Timmy using his truck to move your building. And I like you talking in your videos explaining as you go. Keep up the great work.
I love having a old cast iron bathtub near the water. Put it up on blocks and light a fire under it. Good hot bath and hot tub in one. Loved the video.
All your videos are good! Glade you and Norm are safe after that storm. Lots of good ideas to pick up from your channel but my favourite is the kindling splitter as I now have one and they are fantastic Sir! Cheers and stay safe!
Sometimes it's nice to just see something being done, no talking needed, but variety is a good thing. Hearing your thoughts along with seeing what you're doing is also very enjoyable. Give Norm a good pet for me!
We really enjoyed this video! We like the dialog and answering some questions and comments. We're glad that the wind storm didn't do too much damage. We look forward to seeing your next video 😊
Very happy the falling trees did not harm your buildings. It is fine with me that you make videos with very little talking, and I enjoyed this one with talking. Doing what you want to feels important, so that you enjoy the process, either way.

My wife and I really enjoyed the dialogue. You do a great job, and it made the video seem more like an interaction, not just an observation. Thanks.
We love NORMAN!!!!! 🎉❤🎉❤
I really emjoyed you talking. I think it adds to the video.

I likes the talking. It Let's me do my crafts without having to always be watching what is going on.
Really enjoy your videos. Don’t change a thing. 😊
Thank you!
More of you putzing around the cabin, talking, tidying, guitar, COOKING, and Norm. Thank you!❤
Talking head shots were great dude, you should do those more, shows your character and makes it feel like we're there and you're hanging out with us🤙
Thanks buddy, see you soon
We like both the silent and the talking videos. We find the silent videos really peaceful, and especially in the winter.
My favs are the talking, cooking and chores. Day in the life are always great, IMHO.
Strong gusts of wind is scary, especially when you can hear trees coming down and your roofing being ripped off.
Norm is such a chill dog.
Yup!
I completely enjoyed this video. I like when you talk. 😊

Love when you mix it up and have audio. Love Norm too!! Look forward to your videos. Did you ever finish the inside of your cabin on wheels?
Working on it now!
